DigiPlus, BingoPlus Foundation gave PHP 37M aid to families of Typhoon Kristine casualties in largest relief effort to date

In response to the devastating impact of Typhoon Kristine, BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive, formally distributed PHP37 million in financial aid to families affected by Typhoon Kristine. In the wake of 148 confirmed casualties nationwide, at least PHP250,000 was committed to each bereaved family, as a symbol of compassion and support for their journey to recovery. The initiative started with 39 bereaved families during a turnover ceremony on November 10, 2024, at Talisay New Municipal Grounds in Batangas and will continue in several parts of the country. This pledge will continue to support affected families in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Pinky Romualdez, and DigiPlus chairman Eusebio Tanco were joined by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste, Talisay Mayor Nestor Natanauan, Bacolod Mayor Albie Benitez, BingoPlus Foundation COO Celeste Jovenir, and local leaders and community members to personally hand over the financial aid. The event highlighted the Foundation’s mission to multiply the good by extending meaningful support to Filipinos in their time of greatest need.

Typhoon Kristine, one of the year’s most devastating storms, left a trail of destruction across South Luzon, with severe flooding and landslides resulting in significant loss of life and damage to property. Talisay, particularly impacted by landslides in Batangas, is one of the focus areas of the Foundation’s relief efforts as the entire province was declared in a state of calamity.

With a mission to “multiply the good” in the heart of communities, BingoPlus Foundation joins hands with the DSWD in delivering financial aid and livelihood assistance to families affected by Typhoon Kristine, starting with nearly 40 families bereaved due to a landslide in Talisay, Batangas.

“The BingoPlus Foundation exists to provide more than financial aid; it is about creating hope, resilience, and real change,” said DigiPlus Interactive chairman Eusebio Tanco. “The work of the BingoPlus Foundation is a true reflection of our belief in giving back without holding back, of reaching out to lift up those in need, and of multiplying the good in every way possible.”

The provision of financial assistance builds on BingoPlus Foundation’s prior support initiatives for Typhoon Kristine victims. In collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s National Resource Operations Center (DSWD NROC), the Foundation provided cavans of rice, benefiting at least 750 families, and mobilized volunteers to help repack and distribute critical supplies for affected provinces.

The canvas of the future: Secret Fresh artists share how the TCL NXTFRAME TV transforms their art to a new light

TCL, a global consumer electronics brand, one of the world’s top two TV brands, and the No.1 Panel TV in the Philippines, successfully unveiled its newest innovation, the TCL NXTFRAME TV. The “Seamless Art, Beyond Space” exhibit showcased the TV’s unique ability as a ‘living canvas’ to adapt and enhance the art in real-time, creating a truly immersive experience.

“Our aim for the whole exhibit is Blending Art and Technology.  We chose pop art as an ideal theme because of its vibrant, visually engaging nature, which attracts attention and creates a dynamic atmosphere. It blends art with consumer culture, aligning perfectly with the TCL Frame TV’s fusion of technology and artistic display,” TCL brand manager Joseph Cernitchez explains.

Four talented artists collaborated with TCL to transform the NXTFRAME TV into a canvas for their innovative artworks, elevating the viewing experience.

“A Gamer’s Journey: From Analog to Digital” by Chill

Chill is known for his dynamic and thought-provoking artwork that blends traditional Filipino culture with contemporary themes. Driven by a passion for urban expression, Chill has significantly contributed to the local art scene.

I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of the TCL and Ronac Art collaboration. This project aligns perfectly with my artistic vision, and I’m excited to contribute to such a dynamic partnership,” says Chill.

He calls his artwork “A Gamer’s Journey: From Analog to Digital.”  For someone who grew up in a world where games, cartoons, anime, and movies were integral to his identity. From the simplest consoles of the ’90s to the latest technologies, his passion for these mediums was not just a pastime; it became the foundation of my art and character.

His piece reflects the evolution of technology and its impact on our lives. From classic games and cartoons that inspired me to modern gadgets that simplify our daily routines, Chill aims to express his appreciation for this developmental process. As he would put it, ‘My art is not just about nostalgia; it also conveys hope for future generations—a reminder that technology can be a tool for creativity and understanding.”

‘Different Vision’ by Reynold Dela Cruz

Reynold Dela Cruz is a talented Filipino contemporary artist who draws inspiration from everyday life and creates artwork that reflects his aspirations, dreams, and desires. His works often feature subliminal messages, birds, flowers, animals, and other elements that illustrate different human characteristics.

He called his masterpiece for this collaboration “Different Vision,” showing how an image transcends the surface of a singular definition. His complex, multifaceted layering of many images upon one another shows how general human perception is composed of interpretive layers that operate on different wavelengths to understand a concept.

Reynold testifies, “I am honored to have contributed to this groundbreaking exhibit. The opportunity to fuse my artistic vision with TCL’s cutting-edge technology was both stimulating and rewarding.”

“BamBam and Friends” by RA Tijing

Renowned pop-surreal visual artist RA Tijing was thrilled to see how his work would look on the NXTFRAME TV. His works often blend pop surrealism, contemporary art, and social realism, incorporating elements of magic and dreams to reflect reality and personal experiences.

“The TCL NXTFRAME TV gives vibrant colors and has a sleek design that creates a stunning visual experience that complements my paintings perfectly.”

He calls his exhibit “BamBam and Friends.” It focuses on his Black Sheep character and his experiences during his art residency in Europe. It also features stories about the friends he made and even the delivery boys.

    “Recent Works’ by Ronson Culibrina

Ronson Culibrina is a talented Filipino contemporary artist who has gained recognition and exhibited his work both locally and internationally at such a young age. He created his works as a by-product of his daily musings as a full-time artist and a father.

However, through his participation in the Seamless Art, Beyond Space exhibit, he realized a different reality and eventually formed a transformative experience. “TCL NXTFRAMETV transformed the gallery into a fusion of color and technology, where artist’s creation seamlessly blends into each space with immersive visuals.”

Overall, The “Seamless Art, Beyond Space” exhibit showcased the potential of the TCL NXTFRAME TV to revolutionize art, inspiring artists to explore new creative possibilities. It also showed that TCL is a brand that supports not just current art but future artistic exploration.

    LazSave

CIMB Bank PH and Lazada Philippines first joined forces early in 2024 to create an ecosystem that goes beyond conventional e-commerce, with CIMB becoming the newest partner powering LazPayLater. Leveraging on CIMB’s robust underwriting capabilities, LazPayLater, which is Lazada’s flagship buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) product that provides customers with convenient access to credit within the Lazada platform, is now also powered by CIMB.

“When we first partnered with Lazada for LazPayLater, we always had the goal of not only championing financial inclusion but credit inclusion in the Philippines as well, which is why we have over 8.5 million customers of which 3.5 million enjoy access to our credit facility. True to our mission as we pioneered mobile digital banking in the Philippines, we are going beyond credit-related inclusion on the Lazada platform and expanding our efforts to also help Filipinos grow their savings as well, alongside earning rebates for their online purchases with Lazada, to help them achieve even more of their financial needs and life goals,” said Vijay Manoharan, CEO of CIMB Bank PH.

Ant International introduces Sustainability Impact Scorecard for MSMEs to access new green financing opportunities

Ant International, a global digital payment and financial services leader, in collaboration with its industry partners, are developing an industry-first MSME Sustainability Impact Scorecard (“MSME S-Card”), a digital solution designed to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Asia to track their environmental and social impact in an verified and convenient way based on applicable standards and requirements, to better integrate sustainability into their business operations.

The MSME S-Card leverages Ant International’s experience and partnerships in digital innovation and platforms, automating the collection of key data within existing business processes and digital wallets to build and validate MSME ESG credentials. By integrating ESG metrics in this streamlined and digital way, the scorecard offers MSMEs actionable insights for aligning with sustainability standards, enhancing their ESG credibility, attracting impact-focused investors, and supporting long-term sustainable growth in line with global market expectations.

Leiming Chen, chief sustainability officer, Ant International, said: “One of the key priorities when we launched Programme Sirius earlier this year was to address the critical challenge of sustainability inclusion for MSMEs, who are being left behind in the global shift towards sustainability, missing out on new opportunities. We hope that the MSME S-Card, the first initiative under Programme Sirius, will offer a benchmark for MSMEs and financial institutions to work together to support MSMEs’ sustainability journey, enabling them to contribute to a shared vision for a better future while gaining practical benefits from sustainable payments, ESG reporting, and green financing.”

In March 2024, Ant International unveiled Programme Sirius (Sustainability Innovation for Regenerative & Inclusive Purpose) — supported by partners like the IFC, Gprnt and 13 Asia-Pacific fintech leaders at its inaugural launch — an industry-led knowledge initiative to empower MSMEs in their transition towards sustainability, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As Technology Partner to Programme Sirius, Gprnt will build on its expertise in harnessing technology to simplify how environmental, social and governance (ESG) data is collected and accessed, and share best practices and community outreach in driving MSME sustainability with Ant International. Gprnt, the world’s first regulator-launched digital platform for ESG reporting and data, will also act as a data reporting partner, and will further bolster transparency and help support MSMEs’ efforts to achieve alignment with applicable regional standards.

Lionel Wong, executive director, Gprnt, said: “We are excited to reaffirm our partnership with Ant International to collaborate on Programme Sirius, an important initiative for promulgating MSMEs’ access to solutions that help them commence their sustainability journeys. The launch of the MSME S-Card could not have come at a better time, happening in lockstep with Gprnt’s launch of its own automated Disclosure and Marketplace tools, which are designed to simplify sustainability reporting for all businesses, and connect them to an ecosystem of solutions to support their financing and decarbonisation needs.”

Addressing challenges MSMEs face in adopting sustainable practices

Accounting for 90% of businesses and over half of Asia’s workforce, MSMEs are vital to the region’s economy. Yet, they often face obstacles in adopting sustainable practices, including

    • Lack of Knowledge: Unlike large corporations driven by ESG reporting requirements, MSMEs often lack awareness of ESG practices, which limits their ability to engage in sustainability initiatives. This knowledge gap is particularly notable in developing countries, where access to information and resources is limited.
    • Limited Resources: MSMEs face resource and financial barriers that make implementing sustainability practices difficult. While some may adopt simpler, green-certified solutions—such as solar-powered lighting or energy-efficient equipment—these options often come with high upfront costs. Many MSMEs, as part of the global value chain, are also increasingly requested to meet the complex sustainability demands of larger corporations.
    • Scarcity of Tailored Financial Products: Most green finance solutions offered by banks and financial institutions are geared toward larger corporations, leaving MSMEs underserved. These smaller enterprises require financing that aligns with their shorter investment horizons, smaller capital needs, and specific challenges. Without such tailored financial support, MSMEs struggle to fund their sustainable transitions effectively.

Leveraging digital platforms for seamless MSME reporting and transformation

Ant International’s global digital platform ecosystem partners play a crucial role in supporting MSMEs with seamless data connectivity and local expertise. The MSME S-Card bridges gaps between financial institutions and small businesses by enabling sustainability reporting through partnerships, such as with pilot participant GCash from the Philippines, who will further customize the scorecard benchmarks based on local needs.

Winsley Bangit, VP for New Businesses, GCash, said: “In the Philippines, MSMEs make up 99.5% of all businesses. However, many remain informal and lack access to financing and growth support, limiting their potential for resilience and innovation. GCash’s partnerships with global leaders like Ant International will help enable MSMEs to access both capital and practical support, promoting responsible growth in line with GCash’s purpose to uplift Filipinos’ everyday lives. Together, we’ll create a synergistic ecosystem combining capital, technology, and sustainability expertise.”

As an inaugural member of Programme Sirius, GCash has become a champion of financial inclusion in the Philippines economy by championing mobile financial services. Beyond financial inclusion, GCash is also committed to environmental and social sustainability, making it a leader in sustainable fintech globally. Through its GForest initiative, GCash has mobilized 17 million users to plant over 2.8 million trees, reducing carbon emissions by 138,000 metric tons. This reforestation effort not only contributes to environmental conservation but also provides livelihoods for over 8,600 farmers.

The pilot project by GCash is expected to launch by next year.

Sun Dollar Maximizer: How to maximize dollar assets amid interest rate cuts

A limited-time offer product, Sun Dollar Maximizer (ProIncome) is a single-pay, US dollar denominated VUL plan that provides insurance coverage equal to at least 125% of the Single Premium, and linked to a structured investment that matures after 7 years. It offers fixed annual income payouts of 3.5% for 7 consecutive years and gives back 100% of the Single Premium at maturity.

Maximizing dollar assets can seem like a challenge in the current economy. Analysts anticipate the central bank rate cuts to continue both in the United States and the Philippines, which means interest rates from bank products, such as US dollar time deposits, could go back to pre-pandemic levels where it was only less than 1%.

Meanwhile, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has already reduced the interest rates by another 25 basis points in October, with the next expected cut in December 2024 due to the favorable global and local inflation rates.

With interest rates decreasing at a steady pace, guaranteed returns are also expected to go down in parallel.

To help address this, JJ Book, the new market development head of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), encourages capitalizing on financial products that can help maximize yields.

“One such product is Sun Dollar Maximizer (ProIncome),” Book says. “This product offers a unique combination of stable returns and security,” Book said. “With the Sun Dollar Maximizer (ProIncome), you can enjoy potential growth of your wealth, even as interest rates decline. This, while also ensuring your loved ones’ financial well-being with the life insurance component.”

Sun Dollar Maximizer (ProIncome) can be availed of via a hassle-free application and policy approval through Sun Life’s Guaranteed Insurability Offer, subject to terms and conditions.

The product is available until November 18, 2024 only, or until the total allocation has been sold out, whichever comes earlier.

To learn more about the Sun Dollar Maximizer (ProIncome), visit http://sunlife.co/sundollarmaxpro or talk to a Sun Life Advisor today.

Note that the fixed annual income payouts are not guaranteed and are subject to note issuer risk. The product is linked to the note issued by Nomura International Funding Pte. (Nomura), a global financial services group established in 1925 that provides retail, asset and wealth management, merchant and investment banking, research, and other financial services.
