    Samsung PH unveils the Top 10 Next-Gen heroes of Solve for Tomorrow 2025

    Samsung has announced the Top 10 finalists of its global program, Solve for Tomorrow competition – now in its 3rd year in the Philippines, and 15th year globally.

    Bringing fresh ideas to real-world challenges, Samsung continues its mission to inspire the Filipino next-gen heroes with the return of Solve for Tomorrow 2025, as part of Samsung’s global initiative, partnering with the Department of Education (DepEd) to showcase innovative solutions from all government science high school students in grades 8 to 10, addressing challenges faced by their local communities.

    The teams that will move forward to compete for the top 3 grand-winning prizes are: 

    • FloodSafe Routes AI – Philippine Science High School Caraga Region Campus
    • Mangrove Health Monitor (MaHeMo) – Cavite Science Integrated School
    • SINAG – Bansud NHS Regional Science High School
    • SARIMAX – Pasay City Science High School
    • The S.W.E.A.T Project – Philippine Science High School Main Campus 
    • ShellTer – Philippine Science High School Central Luzon Campus; 
    • VITALBAND – Marikina Science High School
    • S.A.G.I.P – Cavite Science Integrated School

    This year, Samsung garnered over 300 submissions, involving more than 1,000 students from across the Philippines. Each team, with up to four student members, was tasked to create a proposal following this year’s themes: (a) Environmental Sustainability through Technology, (b) Social Change through Tech and Sport, and (c) Solving Community Problems with Artificial Intelligence (AI).

    To evaluate this year’s entries, Samsung convened a distinguished panel of industry leaders from the fields of technology, innovation, and education. The panel includes 

    • Monchito Ibrahim, executive member of the National Innovation Council
    • Michelle S. Alarcon, president of Analytics & Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines
    • Alwyn Rosel, executive director of IdeaSpace Foundation and QBO Innovation 
    • Rachelle Perez, campus program lead of DEVCON Philippines 
    • Dianne Capuz, head of consumer and market insights from Samsung Electronics Philippines. 

    The 10 finalists will now embark on an idea mentorship with Samsung experts, collaborating with their assigned coach to refine proposals, build proof-of-concepts, and create mock-ups ahead of the final presentation. This December, they will be presenting their proposals live for a chance to win over PHP2 million in cash prizes and Samsung devices for their schools, teams, and teacher advisers. Joining the judging panel for the final round is Julius Arguson, Head of Product Engineering and Technical Compliance at Samsung Electronics Philippines.

    VinFast residual value guarantee program offers up to 90% value protection in PH

    VinFast has announced its Residual Value Guarantee (RVG) Program for the Philippine market, under which the company provides a guaranteed vehicle value of up to 90 percent of the original price. This pioneering policy provides customers greater peace of mind when transitioning to electric vehicles, accelerates the broader shift toward green mobility, and reaffirms VinFast’s long-term commitment to the Philippine market. 

    To strengthen customer confidence in the long-term value of electric vehicles, starting November 2025, VinFast will apply a guaranteed residual value plan based on a fixed annual depreciation schedule. After the vehicle is inspected and confirmed to meet eligibility criteria, the maximum guaranteed residual values are set at 90 percent after six months of use, 86 percent after one year, 78 percent after two years, and 70 percent after three years.

    The RVG Program applies to VinFast’s entire product lineup in the Philippines, from the VF 3 to the VF 9, and is available to new customers. The program is the latest in a series of customer-centric solutions VinFast is implementing in the Philippines to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles. Earlier initiatives include a vehicle warranty of up to 10 years, three years of free charging at stations operated by strategic partner V-Green, flexible financing options, and 24-hour technical support and roadside assistance.

    building a supportive network within the program. Freshmen will also be introduced to the
    college, its organizations, and the university through motivational talks and interactive
    activities. The sessions are designed to inspire and give practical insights into

    The event is organized by the Entrepreneurial Students Society (ESS)—a diverse academic
    organization dedicated to cultivating innovation, leadership, and collaboration among PUP
    Entrepreneurship students. ESS has long been dedicated to helping student entrepreneurs

    Yamaha FastFest 2025 unlocks the spirit of speed and performance in DAVAO

    The roar of engines and the thrill of speed took center stage for Fasftest: Unlock Your Speed in Davao, held last October 25-26, 2025, at SM Lanang. The two-day event brought together motorcycle enthusiasts, thrill-seekers, and speed junkies in a celebration of speed and performance, serving as a perfect platform to introduce Yamaha’s powerful machines to the Mindanao market, further strengthening Yamaha’s presence in the region.

    ING Hubs PH donates laptops to DepEd in partnership with IBPAP

    ING Hubs Philippines, a full-fledged global capability hub supporting operations across more than 40 countries and employing over 6,500 professionals in the Philippines, partnered with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to formally turn over 150 brand-new laptops to the Department of Education (DepEd). 

    Showcasing the strength of public-private collaboration in advancing education in the country, the event was graced by Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara, with IBPAP leaders: chief operating officer Celeste Ilagan, head of membership Genny Marcial, and project manager Zel Galapon. Also in attendance were ING Hubs Philippines leaders: country manager Hazel Zaide Delos Santos, head of finance services and centralized people services Wesley de Goede, chief financial officer Franz Zoehrer, and head of legal Grace Torralba, head of legal.

    The laptop donation is part of ING Hubs Philippines’ broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which includes a dedicated effort to uplift literacy and digital readiness across the country. Eustaquio Elementary School in Taguig—a dedicated library space designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for reading among young learners.

    Empowering passion and unleashing possibilities with the Canon EOS R6 Mark III and RF45mm f/1.2 STM

    Canon announced an addition to the EOS R mirrorless system, the new full-frame EOS R6 Mark III camera and the RF45mm f/1.2 STM, a new large aperture standard prime lens designed for enthusiasts and hobbyists.

    Succeeding the EOS R6 Mark II, which was released in 2023, the EOS R6 Mark III features a higher 32.5-megapixel resolution and improved speed, performance, and reliability. It also incorporates powerful video capabilities that support professional workflows. 

    As for the RF45mm f/1.2 STM, it is Canon’s widest aperture non-professional lens in its RF lens lineup. A versatile and easy-to-use 45mm focal length on full-frame cameras, it broadens accessibility of an f/1.2 lens to users. On APS-C cameras like the EOS R50, users can expect a portrait-friendly 72mm full-frame equivalent focal length.

    “With the addition of the EOS R6 Mark III, the EOS R system’s ‘6’ series has reached its third generation. True to the series’ legacy, the EOS R6 Mark III packs in Canon’s latest photo and video technologies, making it a powerful and versatile tool for storytellers,” said Nagai Katsuyuki, senior director of regional ICB sales & marketing, Canon Singapore.

    Higher Resolution and Speed

    With the EOS R6 Mark III’s 32.5-megapixel resolution, finer details can be captured in higher definition but with more cropping flexibility. The higher megapixel count comes in useful when it comes to a close crop of faraway subjects.

    The EOS R6 Mark III can capture up to approximately 150 shots when shooting up to 40fps in the high-speed continuous shooting (electronic shutter) mode. Despite the higher processing load, it maintains the same high-speed continuous shooting rate: up to 40 fps (electronic shutter), and up to 12 fps (mechanical/electronic first-curtain shutter).

    Capturing the Moment

    The EOS R6 Mark III features a user-friendly pre-continuous shooting feature. Before the shutter button is fully pressed, up to 20 continuous shots can be recorded in any still recording format including RAW, C-RAW, and HEIF, on any AF mode. Frames can be accessed for post-processing like any other image. 

    Autofocus algorithm enhancements offer more tenacious subject tracking, increasing the success rate when shooting difficult subjects and simplifying the post-shooting workflow. The EOS R6 Mark III also inherits the Register People Priority function also found in the flagship EOS R1, allowing pre-registered people to be prioritized for detection and tracking when shooting photos or videos in group situations such as events, concerts, or team sports.

    A Leap in Video Capabilities

    The EOS R6 Mark III offers more recording and post-production options that cater to different purpose and usage. It supports 7K 60p internal RAW video recording to a CF-express Type B card and is the first EOS R series camera to offer 3:2 Open Gate recording (up to 7K 30p RAW). 

    This provides greater post-production flexibility for reframing, especially when creating horizontal and vertical videos from the same footage. During 7K 60p RAW recording, users can also simultaneously record a smaller MP4 proxy file or a 4K DCI Fine MP4 sub movie to its SD card slot.

    Recording formats have been expanded, adding internal RAW recording, Canon Log 2, and the HLG gamma recording capabilities to the pre-existing Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ. Support for the Cinema EOS range’s Custom Picture (CP) profiles including custom LUTs helps set recording options like gamma, colour sampling, and bit depth for different workflow and delivery requirements. Official LUT files can also be downloaded from the new Canon LUT Library. Additional custom LUT files can be easily imported to the EOS R6 Mark III via the Camera Connect smartphone app or recording media.

    Like the EOS R5 Mark II, the EOS R6 Mark III supports waveform monitor display, in addition to false colours and zebras to check and achieve accurate exposure on set. New features like the AWB Response and Shockless WB enable seamless white balance transitions during video shooting regardless the AWB is utilized or the white balance is manually adjusted.

    During shooting, there are 14 Color Filters that can be used to apply instant color grading effects to stills or videos for quick output or to preview how the final video will look like. Additionally, there is a S&F mode that records up to 60x fast motion 4K video and 5x (4K) or 7.5x (2K DCI) slow motion video.

    Innovative Body

    The EOS R6 Mark III retains the basic operability, reliability, and durable body design of the EOS R6 Mark II, with enhanced button customisation and improved ergonomics for handheld vertical shooting.  It utilizes the LP-E6P battery pack and supports the BG-R20/BG-R20EP battery grip, which holds two batteries to enable longer shoots and enhances ergonomics for handheld vertical shooting.

    f/1.2 Made Accessible

    As Canon’s first f/1.2 lens of its class, the RF45mm f/1.2 STM is a compact, lightweight and affordable option for users who desire bokeh. The lens also delivers greater low light flexibility and AF support. The 45mm focal length allows users to capture a natural perspective, while moving seamlessly between wide environmental shots and intimate close-ups—often with just a single step. 

    On APS-C cameras, the lens achieves a 72mm equivalent angle of view that is ideal for portraits, close-ups of objects, and street photography. With the lens’ f/1.2 bokeh, users will find it easy to frame their storytelling in a defining manner. When stopped down to f/8, the lens delivers professional standard edge-to-edge sharpness.

    The lens weighs approximately 346g and is the smallest f/1.2 lens in both EF and RF lens range. This was made possible by the effective use of the PMo (plastic molded) aspherical lens elements, gear-type STM technology with a magnetic detection system, and digital lens correction.

    The compact, lightweight body complements full-frame cameras like the EOS R6 Mark III and smaller APS-C cameras like the EOS R50, forming an excellent shoot combination for enhanced agility. 

    Powerful and Cost-Efficient

    Both the EOS R6 Mark III and RF45mm f/1.2 STM bring excellent cost-performance benefits, integrating many of their higher-end counterparts’ powerful features. The RF45mm f/1.2 STM’s f/1.2 maximum aperture allows ample light information to reach the EOS R6 Mark III’s sensor, unleashing the full potential of its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system’s low light capabilities. This results in faster and more accurate subject detection and tracking in low-light conditions.

    Paired with the EOS R6 Mark III’s 5-axis image stabilization, the RF45mm f/1.2 STM delivers sharp, clean images at slow shutter speeds and lower ISOs. These two new products is a powerful combination for advanced enthusiasts who seek the best value with maximum performance and versatility.

    Unified 911 system now uses hyperconverged analytics to revolutionize emergency response

    The country’s unified 911 emergency response system, which was launched last September, has just received a revolutionary upgrade. Hyperconverged analytics now being integrated into the public safety systems of the Unified Emergency 911 National Command Center in Manila and the first regional hub in Cebu.

    Hyperconverged analytics is the future of 911. It leverages data science to integrate real-time analytics with automation, delivering lightning-fast insights that support informed decision-making during emergencies.

    Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the importance of having a single emergency hotline that simplifies and fast-tracks emergency response in the country during the launch.

    “The Philippines is a very complicated country that becomes even more complicated with emergency response. Today, we have one number, and that is 911. By minimizing delays and coordinating responders, the hotline gives families confidence that they are safer at home, in the streets, and in every barangay,” he said during the launch.

    Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Emergency 911 National Office Executive Director Francis Fajardo, lauded the modernized emergency response system equipped with next-generation advanced technology for its ability to “respond faster and now, gain richer, real-time insights that result in faster, smarter and more effective emergency response”.

    “The Unified 911’s efficiency rate now is 96.56%, compared to last year’s 48%. This is how significant the changes have been with the launch of [Unified] 911 and the modernization of our system,” Fajardo said at a media conference on November 4. He also revealed that since its launch last September 11, the Unified Emergency 911 National Command Center (NCC) has already handled over 1.76 million calls.

    Robert Llaguno, country head of NGA 911 Philippines, which provided the technology, said hyperconverged analytics revolutionizes decision-making during emergencies and aligns with the DILG’s Revitalized 911 initiative launched in the fourth quarter of 2024 and immediately implemented by the DILG through the E911 National Office.

    Hyperconverged analytics combines multiple data sources into a unified, automated, intelligent system. Instead of handling fragmented data separately, it integrates, processes, and analyzes information in real-time, enabling decision-makers to act based on comprehensive, actionable insights.  

    While hyperconverged analytics powers real-time emergency response within local command centers, AWS analytics strengthens long-term decision-making by storing and analyzing historical emergency data. This hybrid approach allows 911 centers to process urgent information on-premises for immediate action, leveraging cloud-based insights for predictive analytics, resource optimization, and national-level coordination. 

    By integrating both technologies, emergency responders can act swiftly in critical moments, improving strategic planning and disaster preparedness.

    Llaguno explained that 911 services now combine call center data with incident reporting such as emergency reports, response times, to establish call patterns, location association, generate information by region, province and/or city, categorize nature of emergencies, incident types help identify disaster/incident-prone areas to determine historical crime trends, medical emergency and fire prone cities. “We wish to take the country to next level risk awareness, today we are presently doing interoperability tests, with other IoT systems, such as UGC sweeps (User Generated Content) from social media platforms and CCTV feeds providing real-time video, data, on accidents, fire, flood, storm warnings and earthquake, so that tomorrow we can provide our responders near-real time risk visualization, alerts and statistical trends.

    The technology is being developed by NGA 911 jointly with DILG to enhance national emergency response and support interagency collaboration between police, fire, medical, and disaster response teams.

    “The partnership between NGA 911, a leader in Next Generation 911 (NG911) technology and the DILG through the E911 National Office has now further revolutionized its emergency response capabilities via hyperconverged analytics. By integrating advanced analytics, AI-driven insights, and seamless interagency coordination, the Philippines is setting a new benchmark for public safety operations not just in the country, but in the region. The country’s 911 system is undergoing a major transformation, allowing public safety answering points (PSAPs) to respond more intelligently to emergencies,” Llaguno said.

    “Responders can now pinpoint exact locations, assess risk levels, and manage resources more efficiently. Emergency calls are routed to the right responders, ensuring quicker dispatch of units.  Data-driven planning allows the forecasting of incidents based on historical response patterns, time of day, and environmental conditions, helping mitigate accidents and disasters before they occur. With data-backed insights, the government can allocate emergency personnel, equipment, and funding where they are needed most. During natural disasters, NGA 911’s system can link emergency calls with live video feeds, geolocation tracking, and improving disaster management efforts,” he explained.

    Llaguno summarized the benefits of the new system as faster emergency response, predictive accident and disaster prevention, smarter resource allocation, increased public confidence and accountability, and seamless interagency collaboration.

    “We look forward to cascading our best practices in the U.S. to the Unified 911 NCC and in all our activated LGUs Command Centers. These system updates and transfer of knowledge are free and part of our service. We look forward to having all PSAPs in the Philippines be statistics-driven and provided not just with reports but with actionable data”, he added.
