It seems as if it isn’t enough for speakers to give off incredible sound: they have to float too.

LG is set to unveil the PJ9, a levitating portable speaker, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this January.

The PJ9 uses powerful electromagnets housed in the base known as the “levitation station” which causes the actual speaker to be suspended in midair, free from any wire.

The levitation station also doubles as a subwoofer that provides deep bass for the omnidirectional speaker floating above it.

The 360 speaker houses LG’s Dual Passive Radiator technology which reproduces excellent mids and highs.

To make things even more futuristic, when the floating speaker runs out of juice (which is 10 hours’ worth), it automatically descends to the levitation station which charges the speaker wirelessly and continues playing uninterrupted.

The PJ9 is also IPX7-compliant and can connect to two devices at once.
