Viber eliminates spam calls with the new Caller ID feature

TechnologyApps & SoftwareViber eliminates spam calls with the new Caller ID feature

Rakuten Viber, the global leader in private and secure messaging and voice-based communication, has launched its new Caller ID feature in the Philippines, helping Filipinos identify unknown callers so they always have the option to receive or reject calls as they wish and protect themselves from spammers at the same time.

When was the last time you saw a number pop up on your phone screen and ignored it because the caller wasn’t saved in your contact list? Yes, it could be a spam call you should ignore and block. But what if it’s an important call you really need to pick up like a call from a doctor regarding a medical emergency?

Users can opt-in to activate the capability to identify all calls received, including if the caller is not using Viber to call. Existing users (with Viber 19.3.0 or later) can enable Caller ID under ‘Calls and Messages’ within the app’s Settings menu.

With Viber’s Caller ID feature, phone numbers that have been reported by other Viber users as a source of spam will be displayed with a spam alert. Once a call has ended, the user will be provided with post-call actions such as redialing, messaging, saving the contact, or even reporting it as a spammer.

“We are excited to provide this additional layer of protection and awareness to our users,” says Ofir Eyal, CEO of Rakuten Viber. “Caller ID allows us to give users peace of mind; nobody likes receiving spam calls. This is another step we are taking to put more control in the hands of the users.”

The feature is currently available to Android users in select territories, including the Philippines and will be gradually rolled out globally over the coming months.
