Unless you’re a stickler for dustless rugs and glistening surfaces, doing household chores for the most part, is an unwelcome idea. When Dyson sent over one of their vacuum cleaners for review, it’s like the heavens knew I needed a helping hand, or rather, a helping machine.

    Design:

Shying away from traditional vacuum design, the Dyson Fluffy is a refreshing sight in a sea of huge and bulky motorized house helpers. It is a compact vacuum cleaner with a sophisticated design that will likely appeal to moms. The vacuum head, where the motor, filter, and bin are housed, is shaped like a futuristic robot pumpkin. If anything, it looks like the main piece of a magical staff from an animated fantasy series. The filter is topped by a knob that sticks out on the crown of the vacuum for effortless replacing and goes into the silo right in the center of the motor head. The extension next to the motor is the exhaust which has ports on its rear for air to get blown out when the vacuum is activated; the max button is also located within this part.

If you know your vacuum cleaner, the Dyson Fluffy is basically the same but is smaller and without cords. On the handle are a trigger that activates the vacuum’s suction power, and an outlet into which the charging jack fits. Just press the “trigger” and hold on to it while in use and lift your finger when you’re done—it’s comfortable to hold and really easy to operate. Adjacent to the handle is the bin, which holds everything that gets sucked in. The bin is transparent enabling the user to see its powerful spinning motor in action.

The Dyson Fluffy comes with tools which you can use in variation depending on what needs to be cleaned. These tools simply click onto the nozzle, firm in use, and are easy to detach.

    Hardware:

The Fluffy is battery-powered, with a single, built-in Lithium battery pack, allowing it to run cordlessly. It juices up as soon as youhook the vacuum into its plug-incharger that can be docked onto a wall. The dock is designed with grooves underneath, letting you stow the cable neatly for uncluttered storage.

Inside is a V6 motor, which the company claims to be designed similarly to high-performance racing cars. It spins at a whopping 110,000rpm, which is a reasonable explanation as to why it heats up with uninterrupted use.

While it already houses a powerful motor, the Fluffy comes with two accessory tools that also makes use of a motor for a more efficient clean.

    User Experience:

The Fluffy, on a full charge, promises a runtime of up to 20 minutes on normal mode. With its motor-powered cleaning tools attached, it drops to just over 15 minutes, something which I can attest to be true. However, when you go on ‘Max’ mode—in which the motor outputs its full potential and unmatched suction power—you can expect your cleaning session to be over in 6 minutes. 20 minutes is surprisingly short if you consider a full charge can be had only after three hours. For someone who cleans her room about every leap year, running flat and having to wait hours before you can start cleaning again kills the momentum. But then again, that’s a lot of suction power available for cleaning up.

The Fluffy, contradicting its moniker, is not fluffy at all. It’s pure muscle, save perhaps for the cleaning head. This soft roller cleaning head effectively rids your floors of fine particles or debris, i.e. rice grains, crumbles, and powder, thanks to a separate built-in motor and antistatic material wrapped around the roller. This cleaning head extends upright with a long neck attached to the motor base, making it perfect for floorsthat require a high polish. The material is washable and can easily be removed from its shaft. The other motor-powered turbobrush is smaller in size compared to the Fluffy head, attaches directly to the motor head nozzle, and sports rotating antistatic carbon bristles that are effective in collecting hair and rather larger debris on carpeted surfaces.

For detailed cleaning, you have a variety of tools to choose from. I found myself using the crevice tool quite often, as cobwebs had spread across my room since the last leap year. The Fluffy had no problems sucking up the unsightly cobwebs. I also didn’t need the assistance of a chair to prop me up as the crevice tool can be extended.

Meanwhile, the dusting brush worked its magic on thick layers of dust on the edges of cabinets. Though it left a slight trace of dust, a second pass leaves it exceptionally clean. The upholstery tool on the other hand sucked the dust and particles right out of our couch. With it on hand, the sofa along with the pillows spotless in no time at all. The Fluffy is also ideal for cleaning stairs and interior of cars as it is easy to move around.

When full, the bin can be emptied with a press of a button; the bottom cover hangs open from its latch and releases everything it has collected. I did have to use a stick to remove hair and dust that clung to the motor though. The bin is also fairly small, which means the more dirt present in your home the more often you’ll have to empty it.

    Value:

The Dyson Fluffy V6 with a sticker price of PHP 38,000 is rather expensive. But, taking into consideration its practicality, powerful performance, ergonomics, and design, among its class, the Fluffy presents a deal that is quite hard to resist.

    Bottomline:

You would gladly clean every corner of your house with the Dyson Fluffy on hand.
