ASUS ROG NUC 16: A compact gaming PC with RTX power and a surprisingly quiet fan

ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced the ROG NUC 16, a compact gaming PC that squeezes up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU and an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor into a three-liter chassis. It’s designed for gaming, content creation, and AI workloads, and it comes with a patented removable stand that lets you place it vertically or horizontally depending on your setup.

A Moonlight White edition joins the standard Black edition, and both are confirmed for the Philippine market in 2026.

RTX 5080 in a Box You Can Hold With One Hand

The top-tier configuration pairs the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. Lower GPU tiers (RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5070, and RTX 5060) are also available, with the RTX 5060 variant using the Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus.

Memory support goes up to 128GB of DDR5-6400, which should handle high-FPS gaming and heavy creative workloads without bottlenecks. The system also supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with ML-based Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation, letting it push up to five additional frames per rendered frame in supported titles. DLSS 4.5’s updated transformer model improves lighting accuracy, fine detail, and motion clarity, which benefits both gaming and up to 8K video editing workflows.

For AI use cases, the ROG NUC 16 delivers up to 1,334 AI TOPS, backed by 16GB of GDDR7 memory on the GPU. That’s enough headroom to run local large language models or build a personal AI agent without sending data to the cloud. Overall 3DMark performance is up 2.3 percent over the previous generation.

QuietFlow Cooling: Three Fans, Two Vapor Chambers, One Quiet Machine

Fitting high-end silicon into a compact chassis usually means accepting loud fans or thermal throttling. ROG’s answer is QuietFlow Cooling: a three-fan system (each fan measuring 102 x 102 x 17mm) paired with a dual vapor chamber that increases CPU thermal coverage by 12 percent over the previous generation.

A dedicated SSD heatsink further contributes to the thermal story, keeping SSD temperatures at 59 degrees Celsius compared to 72 degrees in a system without one. Under full load, the ROG NUC 16 runs at just under 38 dBA, which is roughly equivalent to a library reading room.

A Mini PC That Goes Vertical, Horizontal, or White

The ROG NUC 16 introduces the first Moonlight White edition in the NUC series, housed in a metal chassis. The patented removable stand is the more practically interesting feature: it lets users switch between vertical and horizontal orientations depending on where the machine is being used, whether that’s tucked under a monitor on a desk or sitting in a living room entertainment setup driving up to 8K content on a large display.

For multi-display work, the rear I/O supports up to five 4K screens via two HDMI 2.1 ports and two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs. Thunderbolt 4 handles fast external storage for large video files, while ASUS GlideX enables cross-device screen sharing and control over both wired and wireless connections.

Availability and Pricing

The ROG NUC 16 in both Black and Moonlight White editions will be available in the Philippines in 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced.
