Facebook now allowing free calls for iPhone users in the US

TechnologyTechnology NewsFacebook now allowing free calls for iPhone users in the US

Facebook has allowed US based iPhone users to call other users using their devices free when using an existing WiFi connection or data plan. The Verge picked up on the story and has confirmed through Facebook that the company has indeed rolled-out the feature, and the best part is that it does not require an app update. For lucky people in the US, the procedure to call is pretty simple and straightforward – all you need to do is initiate a conversation with the person you want to call, tap the “i” button on the upper right corner and click on call. Whoever you’re calling will get a notification that they have an incoming call.

While other companies like Viber has made this feature available for their service, none of them has the same install base as Facebook. With over 1 billion active users in Facebook, this new initiative may be another step for the company in further monetizing their service. Unfortunately, the company has not said anything about rolling out the service to Android or other platforms or even when this particular feature will roll out to other countries, but you can bet that the company already has these plans in the works.
