Samsung’s first Tizen phone will be sporting a 720p display and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor with multiple Krait cores. The new device with model number SM-Z9005 is set to be the first smart phone to be powered by the Tizen operating system to cut ties with Android.

Thee SM-Z9005 reared its face in a shipping manifest and according to Dutch site TechTastic, the device has also shown in a UAProf (User Agent Profile), the document that lists specs for individual devices.

Tizen is Samsung’s own brand operating system. It has been passed around various tech companies for the past few years without ever getting anywhere, but now, Samsung is wagering on Tizen to power some of its phones and free the company from Android.

Google’s Android software has been good to Samsung, especially with the Android-powered Galaxy range making Samsung the biggest phone manufacturer in the world, but those phones channel money to Google for apps and games—money that the company would like to direct to itself.

Samsung earlier said that the new phone would be available in August or September, but that seems unlikely as we near the end of the month. Word on the street is that it would make its appearance in October or November, though nothing is certain as of yet.

Is Samsung ready to break free from Android? What do you think?
