In a move that is a drastic departure from the designs of the past, Samsung is coming up with a smartphone with glass and metal construction. Sort of. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Alpha, which is going to go head-to-head with the iPhone 6 in a few weeks, looks like it’s putting design first.
While the phone isn’t going to be totally glass and metal, its outside edges appear to be chamfered metal, giving it a much more premium feel than the other smartphones they have released in the past.
As for the hardware, LTE connectivity, a nanoSIM slot, fingerprint sensor, and the monster Exynos 4 Octa 5430 chipset, plus quad-core 1.8GHz Coretex A-15 and quad-core Coretex A7 1.3Ghz processors mean it’s going to have some muscle behind it.
Interestingly, they have left out the internal card slot, and kept the screen resolution at 1280×710, for a pixel density of about 312ppi. It’s going to be interesting to see how people will receive this spec. It’ll also be packing a smaller-than-usual 1860mAh battery.
No word on pricing, or release date, but we’ll keep an eye on things as they develop.
