Vertiv’s SmartCabinet™ Solves Space Studio’s IT Space Challenge

TechnologyTechnology NewsVertiv's SmartCabinet™ Solves Space Studio's IT Space Challenge

Vertiv, formerly Emerson Network Power, recently solved The Space Studio’s IT Space complication through the installation of the SmartCabinet™, a packed IT infrastructure solution in a compact containment.  The Fitness First-owned studio, based in Australia, was able to benefit from a significant upgrade from its previous bricks-and-mortar setup.

“In the past, we had a custom-built communications cabinet with racks, sealed piping and ventilation. However, in The Space Studio we had to consider the acoustic level of the IT equipment affecting the yoga experience and the number of surrounding heat sources, like floor-to-ceiling glass windows and the adjacent hot yoga room. Our challenge was to mitigate the risk of overheating in the rack,” explains Adam Rendulic, IT manager of Fitness First.

Before the introduction of the SmartCabinet™ to The Space Studio, issues included a struggle  on space: only  limited floor space was available for the IT infrastructure, the actual IT infrastructure was sitting on a converted kitchenette, and the location was adjacent to a multi-purpose yoga studio that reached 35 degrees when classes were held. Vertiv’s SmartCabinet™ brought an integrated solution that saved space and added convenience. Eliminating the need for a dedicated IT room, the technology was able to provide compact  and reliable system deployment at a space efficient setup.

Already pre-configured and factory tested for assured system compatibility and performance, the SmartCabinet™ came as a significant IT solution to The Space Studio. In partnership with Servcore, Vertiv included in the packaged solution  an enclosure, a built-in UPS for uninterruptible power,  thermal management via dedicated rack mount cooling and emergency fans, and power distribution, monitoring and infrastructure management.

“This was the first time we have seen technology such as this implemented within Fitness First and it was exciting to see the benefits and features it could bring to their new mind/body space,” said Matt Mundey, IT project manager of Servcore.“The way in which the solution could be installed was surprising and pleasing as it allowed an installation flat against the wall, backing onto heating elements within the gyprock while still managing to install the condenser in a safe and practical location venting into the building’s HVAC system,” added Mundey.

The installation of the SmartCabinet™ solution came as a breeze. It’s plug and play design lowered additional construction costs supposedly for redesign and refurbishing, while its durable and optimal design  guaranteed protection against Sydney’s heatwaves.

“The SmartCabinet™ is the perfect solution for the Fitness First-owned studio because of its compact and fully integrated design,” explains Daniel Sargent, solutions partner manager for Australia and New Zealand, Vertiv. “Moreover, the customer and its patrons are extremely happy with the low acoustics of the entire solution, it goes largely unnoticed.”
