Have you long since stopped using your Yahoo account?

As part of CEO Marissa Mayer’s plans to revamp the struggling company, Yahoo is planning to reset inactive Yahoo user IDs and offer them to active or new users.

Yahoo announced on Wednesday that it will be resetting all Yahoo IDs that have been inactive for at least a year, leaving them up for the taking.

As expected, there will be a process. Users will be able to request the IDs they want starting mid-July, but won’t have an idea which one they got until mid-August.

Yahoo has been working extremely hard to refresh the company, with the series of spring cleaning efforts the company has been doing (in addition to the purchasing of hip blogging site Tumblr).

The reset is great, especially if you want a Yahoo ID that’s short and memorable, such as “[email protected]”, rather than “[email protected]”.

On the other hand, if you’re one of those inactive users and you don’t want to lose your Yahoo ID, log on before July 15 to stake your claim.
