Round 3 of the Yokohama Philippine GT Championship will be taking place at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga this August 30 and 31.
Yokohama’s 6-leg 2014 season has managed to form a lineup of 17 drivers in every race for the two previous round’s GT 300, GT 200, GT 150, and GT 100. Overall, there are 20 drivers vying for this year’s top spot and after just two races, favorites have emerged in each of the four GT groups.
For the GT 300 class, Mayor Don Don Portugal of Taysan bested other drivers through all the Sprint and GT races. This domination earned him a massive 75 point lead in the standings. Coming in second is Veli-Matti Kaikkonen in the Häfele Mitsubishi Evolution with 45 points and actor Jomari Yllana in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe scoring 42.
In the GT 200, youngster Paolo Mantolino is currently in first with 105 points from his steady performances. 2010 PTCC champion Joey Perry is in second with 66, and 2013 PTCC top driver Carlos Anton has 60.
10 drivers are battling it out in the GT 150 class. Joey Portugal is leading their standings with 87 points – the only driver in his class to cross all the checkered flags this season so far.
Lastly, the GT 100 has been swept clean by Edwin Rodriguez riding his Maza Philippines-sponsored Mazda 2.
Their practice day will be on Saturday (August 30) and the races will start on August 31. A 10-lap Sprint and a 17-lap GT Race will take place in the morning and afternoon respectively. Other races to watch out for include the Philminiracers Championships Series, VW KaFER Cup, Winds Formula Philippines, and the newly-formed Sparco Bracket Circuit Racing.
The 2014 Philippine Grand Touring Car Championship is sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), sponsored by Petronas Energy Philippines, Inc., and Yokohama Tires Sales Philippines, Inc.
