Ten days ago, a handful of netizens in Tokyo were able to do something that some Sci-Fi fanatics had only dreamed of doing back then—talk to an spaceman right in their living room. Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide had a lovely chat with a handful of people over the Internet while in space via Google+ Hangout.
A number of Tokyo residents, an astronaut moderator, and a Japanese Sci-Fi comic book author all connected to Hoshide’s spacecraft through Google+ and YouTube. This served as the first public hangout from space. The hangout participants were able to ask Hoshide some questions, watch him float inside the spacecraft, and even have a toast with him.
