A major update for VLC (version 2.1) for Windows and Mac OS X has just rolled out. Part of this bundle of upgrades enables the program to become 4K-compatible, finally allowing it to catch up with the budding of 4K content.
Other improvements include a new anaglyph filter for side-by-side 3D, a rewritten audio core that is meant to enable better volume management, and improved support for various file types. The OS X version gains the ability to play a video as a desktop background, plus a new customizable playback menu.
