    Honda Certified Plus Program: quality assurance for pre-owned Hondas

    CERTIFICATION PROCESS

    Honda Cars PH awards top-performing dealers

    Epson PH and Haribon join forces for coastal cleanup at Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park

    Epson Philippines, in collaboration with the Haribon Foundation, recently conducted a coastal cleanup at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP), reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.

    “At Epson, sustainability is more than just a corporate goal, it’s a responsibility we take seriously,” said Masako Kusama, president and director of Epson Philippines. “This cleanup initiative reflects our dedication to protecting the environment and inspiring others to take action for a better future.”

    The coastal cleanup focused on addressing pollution in Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, a 175-hectare protected area that serves as one of the last mangrove refuges in Manila Bay. The park is home to over 54 bird species, both native and migratory, and plays a vital role in maintaining biodiversity in the region. However, waste accumulation threatens this delicate ecosystem, making conservation efforts critical. 

    Volunteers from Epson and Haribon worked together to collect 133 sacks of waste, weighing a total of 697 kilograms. Among the debris removed were Styrofoam (42 sacks, 82 kg), glass and metal (5 sacks, 50kg), PET bottles (41 sacks, 123kg), rubber materials (19 sacks, 228kg), cloth waste (6 sacks, 72kg), and soft plastics (20 sacks, 140kg). This effort not only reduced pollutants but also underscored the urgent need for sustained action to protect natural habitats.

    Collaborating for Change

    The Haribon Foundation, one of the Philippines’ leading environmental organizations, has long been dedicated to conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices. Known for its expertise in habitat restoration and community engagement, Haribon actively partners with companies and institutions to address pressing ecological challenges. For this coastal cleanup, Haribon provided technical guidance, clean-up materials, and site management support, ensuring the activity was both impactful and safe for volunteers.

    As part of its Human Resources plans for 2025, Epson sought to organize an employee engagement activity aligned with its sustainability initiatives. The partnership with Haribon was a natural fit, given their shared vision of preserving critical ecosystems and fostering environmental awareness.

    “We specifically wanted a coastal cleanup because it directly addresses one of the most visible and urgent environmental issues today,” Kusama explained. “Partnering with Haribon allowed us to make a meaningful impact—not only by preserving the wetland park but also by encouraging our employees to actively participate in sustainable practices.”

    Sustainability at Epson’s Core

    The Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park holds immense ecological significance as among the last remaining mangrove refuge in Manila Bay. It serves as a sanctuary for migratory birds traveling south during the winter months and provides essential ecosystem services such as flood mitigation and carbon sequestration. Epson’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding these critical functions while raising awareness about the importance of long-term conservation efforts.

    This coastal cleanup is one of many initiatives Epson has undertaken to promote sustainability and reduce its ecological footprint. By engaging employees in hands-on activities like this, the company continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating positive change and enriching communities.     LinkedIn and DepEd join hands to upskill over 200,000 teachers and prepare job-ready graduates

    LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, has formed a strategic partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines to address the nation’s educational and workforce challenges. This partnership aims to provide over 200,000 public school teachers with scaled access to LinkedIn Learning courses, mapped to the Philippines Professional Standards for Educators. This initiative will help teachers develop critical competencies in areas including creative thinking, data analytics, and digital skills as the country undergoes rapid digitalization accelerated by AI. This will empower teachers to stay relevant, become more productive and efficient in daily tasks, and deliver a higher quality of education in the classroom. 

    Beyond upskilling educators, DepEd will also leverage LinkedIn Talent Insights (LTI) to shape and inform curriculum design, particularly for Grade 11 and 12 students. This data-driven approach will ensure that classroom pedagogy aligns with in-demand skills and competencies, to better guide and prepare job-ready graduates to enter the workforce.

    Setting Job-Ready Graduates Up for Success in a Rapidly Changing World of Work 

    With over 1.1 billion members globally, including 16 million in the Philippines—LinkedIn has a unique view into how work is changing at an unprecedented pace. Its recently launched Work Change report projects that the skills required to do a job in the Philippines will change by 70% by 2030, accelerated by AI. In fact, 10% of workers hired in 2024 hold job titles that didn’t exist in 2000—in a new AI-driven era of work, roles like AI Engineer, Data Scientist, Sustainability Manager, Social Media Manager, and Customer Success Manager are now commonplace. 

    The growing demand for AI-related competencies is clear: 68% of Filipino leaders would hire a less experienced candidate with AI skills, than a more experienced candidate without them. However, with AI’s potential to automate more routine, everyday tasks—business leaders are also recognizing the importance of soft skills; skills that set people apart to innovate and collaborate in ways technology cannot. In the Philippines, six of the top 10 growing in-demand skills are soft skills, with writing and critical thinking being the most in-demand skill, followed by problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills. 

    “AI will continue to drive up the value of skills as it becomes relevant to every job in the future and woven into many tasks.
