Globe wins Best Network Reliability Solution at 5G Core Awards

Globe, the leading telecommunications and digital solutions provider in the Philippines, has been recognized for having the Best Network Reliability Solution at the 5G Core Summit Awards, hosted by leading tech market insight firm Informa Tech.

The Best Network Reliability Solution Award recognizes the mobile operator that “has achieved exceptional stability and reliability in its network infrastructure” and “demonstrates excellence in maintaining high performance across diverse regions, understanding and meeting user expectations, and minimizing downtime,” according to the awards website.

The recognition is a nod to Globe’s pioneering efforts to build up its 5G network, with its outdoor coverage reaching 98.45% in its capital region and 94.19% in key cities across its two other major island groups, Visayas and Mindanao, as of June 2024.

Earlier this year, Globe became the first Philippine telco to deploy End-to-End (E2E) Network Slicing Function of 5G Standalone (SA), the most advanced 5G technology, paving the way for a range of applications, including high-bandwidth activities such as video streaming, virtual reality, and Internet of Things (IoT).

“This recognition affirms our efforts to invest in 5G technology and make it more accessible to our customers. 5G holds great promise as digital adoption in the Philippines continues to accelerate, and our goal is to have our network ready for when the market is ready to fully utilize the benefits of 5G,” said Joel Agustin, Globe head of service planning and engineering.

The awards were held during the 5G Core Summit (5GCS) in Dubai, where Globe announced its groundbreaking advancements in building a highly stable and resilient 5G core network, ensuring unparalleled service continuity for its customers.

Toyota Gazoo Racing PH Cup thrills fans in Race Weekend 2 of the 2024 Season

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has concluded the second race weekend of its premier motorsports program, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup). The event, held on September 28 at the Clark International Speedway, was a thrilling spectacle for all. Spectators and racing fans watched as racers with varying backgrounds fiercely competed in the sprint and endurance races, delivering heart-pumping action on the track.

During the opening ceremony, TMP president Masando Hashimoto shared his passion and excitement of getting behind the wheel of a race car as he continues to race under the Novice Class.

“I am reminded of Toyota Motor Corporation chairman Akio Toyoda’s rallying cry of “We Love Cars” and can confidently say that motorsports is well and alive in the Philippines, and it will only get bigger with your support and passion,” he shared.

Seasoned racers under the Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting classes returned to the track once again to fight and claim the top spot in one of the races.

Numerous overtakes occurred throughout the races to put audiences on the edge of their seats

Throughout the day, racers navigated sunny conditions during the morning session, while the afternoon brought overcast skies. Shifting weather challenged drivers to showcase their skill and bravery, delivering adrenaline-pumping action and intense, bumper-to-bumper racing for the fans.

For Race Weekend 2, two sprint races and an endurance race took place.

Toyota endorses En Tsumugi, first model end-of-life vehicle dismantler in PH

Automotive leader Toyota has endorsed En Tsumugi ELV Dismantler Corporation as a model End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) dismantling facility, the first of its kind in the country, located in Mexico, Pampanga.

A wholly-owned venture of the Hung family, owner of local metal recycling companies Supreme Mile Trading Corp. (SMTC) and CoroCrown Corporation, En Tsumugi is a result of a pilot project led by Japanese ELV dismantler Tsuruoka Co., Ltd. and financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Several Japanese businesses, including Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd., provided business development and technical assistance.

The establishment of En Tsumugi is a significant milestone in the Philippine automotive industry’s push for a responsible management system for ELVs, or those vehicles with components classified by the local authorities as waste. The facility, open to various car makes, will serve as a benchmark in further developing the local recycling industry while promoting environmental sustainability and the adoption of best practices and foreign expertise.

Through its local unit, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP), Toyota’s involvement in the project includes providing technical support in various areas, such as environmental compliance, facility design, dismantling methodology, equipment requirements, and hazardous waste management.

Furthermore, TMP donated five ELVs, including one hybrid electric vehicle, to En Tsumugi as training units for further equipping and enhancing of the facility’s capabilities.

Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project

“The establishment of a local ELV dismantler aligns with the goals of the ‘Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project,’ which aims to establish a network of proper ELV dismantling facilities worldwide,” said TMP President Masando Hashimoto during the inauguration ceremony of En Tsumugi in Pampanga.

The project seeks to address the environmental challenges posed by ELVs, such as pollution and resource depletion, by promoting proper dismantling and recycling practices, which also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same event, TMP bestowed its Certificate of Gratitude to En Tsumugi. Hashimoto also mentioned that En Tsumugi is the fourth ELV dismantler in the Southeast Asian region to receive this endorsement, following similar facilities in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

Toyota implements the Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project as part of its efforts towards “Establishing a Recycling-based Society and System” under the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, which was globally introduced in 2015.

Next stop in YClub Touring 2024: Shaping the next level of touring experience in Visayas!

YClub Touring 2024, organized by Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH), turns to the Visayas for its second leg. YMPH invited a hundred Visayan YClub riders to bring out the best in motorcycle touring, discovering the landscapes, and unlocking adventures in every corner. It comes naturally to two-wheeled riders to seek a greater adventure out there with their motorcycles. Since then, a motorcycle has not been a mere mode of transportation but a channel for exploring new cultures.

The growing riding community and the 175km triple route adventure!

The YClub Touring 2nd leg bridged a hundred riders from different islands of Visayas. The pact was divided into three classifications with 40 riders each router, the 175km journey begins from the capital. The first route calls for adrenaline as the Team Blu (Sniper155, Mio Aerox, YZF-R3, YZF-R15, and WRI55R riders) got to have a motorcycle time trial sport experience.

In contrast of fast-paced activity is the route of Team MAX (NMAX and XMAX). Translating a distinguished gentleman aura, the MAX riders show off their skills in the Golf putting tournament.

Completing the roster is the Team Mio (125cc displacements) that fully expressed their artistry in Latte Art making.

Though the activities were mirrored from the last leg, the connection created throughout the day signifies how these Visayan riders were eager to strengthen the growing community of Yamaha in Visayas. All teams traveled different routes but ended up in one culminating activity at Maayo Argao Hotel and Resort. Capping off the adventure, all 120 riders rode the same path on Day 2, sealing their YClub Touring 2024 chapter with a group photo in Naga City Boardwalk overseeing the panoramic vast ocean.

Smart and Maya warn customers against ‘Text Hijacking’ scams

PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Maya, the #1 digital bank in the Philippines, are urging the public to stay vigilant against the rising threat of ‘text hijacking’ scams. These fraudulent messages mimic trusted companies like Smart and Maya, tricking unsuspecting users into clicking on malicious links or sharing personal information.

Smart and Maya emphasize that they never send SMS with links requesting login credentials, personal information, or account verification. If you receive such a message, it is likely a text-hijacking attempt.

Text hijacking, also known as ‘spoofing,’ involves scammers using fake cell sites to collect mobile numbers within a targeted area. They push messages directly to subscribers’ devices, bypassing legitimate service providers like Smart. Scammers also use illegal software to manipulate the sender’s name, making the messages appear as though they come from a trusted source. These messages often contain suspicious links, offering fake promotions like vouchers or prompting users to update their accounts.

To help customers identify legitimate communications, Smart reminds users that its official domain is https://smart.com.ph, while Maya directs customers to its official domains: https://maya.ph and https://mayabank.ph.
