Globe warns its customers against fake SIM registration links circulating online, which lead to malicious sites aimed at duping customers into sharing sensitive information.
Fraudsters have been spreading fake links on social media, enticing mobile users to register. Once clicked, these fake URLs lead to blogs filled with online ads.
“We appeal to our customers to please use only our official platforms to register new SIMs. The only way to register your new SIMs is through our SIM registration site or the GlobeOne app. Any other site pretending to be a registration portal is fraudulent and dangerous. Please be vigilant,” said Darius Delgado, Globe vice president and head of consumer mobile business.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology earlier warned the public against these fake SIM registration sites, saying these are geared towards getting sensitive information from SIM users.
Globe earlier completed major improvements to its SIM registration channels as it hopes to protect customer data and deter fraud.
These include advanced encryption protocols to secure data transmission during registration, live photo capture, and use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for document verification.

Utilizing machine learning and deep neural networks, the system, powered by Alibaba Cloud’s resilient cloud infrastructure, reconstructs the competition scenes in sophisticated details, offering viewers a compelling engagement experience. Through specialized video processing within both edge and cloud environments, footage captured from strategically positioned cameras around the venues will be transformed into cloud-based 3D models with high-quality textures, enabling the creation of virtual frames from new viewpoints and making actions such as rotation more smooth and realistic, thus providing an immersive and cohesive 3D reconstruction of the competition scenes.
Alibaba Cloud’s powerful computing architecture and proven cloud technologies facilitate the near real-time processing of high-precision 3D reconstruction and video rendering.
During Paris 2024, the AI-enabled replay system will be implemented at 12 competition venues for events such as beach volleyball, tennis, judo and rugby. The multi-angle video content will make available through OBS’s production system, enriching coverage of the Olympic Games through cloud broadcasting with a range of dynamic and lifelike replay footage for global Media Rights Holders (MRH).
First introduced at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 for curling and speed skating events, the multi-camera replay system was used to immerse fans in the action, allowing them to experience critical competition moments from a variety of optimal angles. Palo Alto Networks’ recent research revealed manufacturing as the most targeted industry for ransomware attacks in ASEAN, primarily due to limited system visibility and inadequate network monitoring. This trend resonates with Filipino organizations using operations technology systems, where 76.5% experienced attacks in the past year – based on Palo Alto Networks’ State of OT Security report. Additionally, 70.6% of these organizations are concerned with AI-enabled attacks.

In a briefing with local press members, Assistant Secretary Julius Gorospe, CIO of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), who was also present at the event today, elaborated on how DSWD is safeguarding its digital infrastructure with AI-powered solutions as part of its Digital Transformation (DX) initiative.
DSWD faced security challenges with fragmented cybersecurity measures, server outages leading to operational disruption, and absence of comprehensive incident response playbooks. These issues expanded the attack surface for DSWD, having limited visibility in assessing suspicious network activities and increasing the risk of data breaches due to slower incident response times and inadequate planning.
Partnering with Palo Alto Networks, DSWD leveraged its Unit 42 Incident Response (IR) services to evolve its cybersecurity posture and proactively prevent future threats. The organization also leveraged Palo Alto Networks’ AI-driven solutions like Cortex XSIAM and Cortex XDR to enhance protection and efficiency, and empower its security operations to effectively combat threats.

A Visa study found that more than half of card users want the power to access multiple accounts through a single credential. The Visa Flexible Credential will allow a single card product to toggle between payment methods, putting the power of choice in the hands of the consumer. Now, people can easily set parameters or choose whether they use debit, credit, “pay-in-four” with Buy Now Pay Later, or even pay using rewards points, all via the same, single Visa credential. In Asia Pacific, Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company (SMCC) was the first bank to adopt this solution, which is also known as “Olive” to SMCC’s cardholders. The solution is currently available in Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam and will be launched in more Asia Pacific markets later this year.
There are six billion mobile devices in the world, providing consumers with versatile NFC-enabled devices primed to be “tapped.” At the end of 2023, Visa’s tap-to-pay penetration reached 65% globally, up two times the penetration in 2019, cementing tap as one of the best commerce experiences today.
This year, new ways to “tap” on a mobile device will become an integral part of the Visa experience.

Identifying a person in the digital world has become incredibly complex, which has resulted in a significant increase in fraud. Today, online payment fraud is seven times higher than in-person payments.
Built on the latest Fast Identity Online (FIDO) standards, the Payment Passkey Service enables a consumer to verify and authenticate their identity, and authorize online payments, with a quick scan of their biometrics like their face or fingerprint using authentication tools made available on their devices. When shopping online, Visa passkeys replace the need for passwords or one-time codes, enabling more streamlined and secure transactions. Visa plans to roll out the Visa Payment Passkey Service in selected Asia Pacific markets in the coming years.
Click to Pay
Guest checkouts have been particularly cumbersome for many consumers as they manually enter their card information and undergo verification processes on eCommerce platforms. Click to Pay eliminates this tedious process, powering a more seamless and secure checkout experience at scale. The solution enables consumers to complete online transactions within a few clicks by selecting which of their pre-enrolled Visa cards they’d like to pay with. Additionally, in many markets across Asia Pacific, Visa will partner with issuers to enable Click to Pay on new Visa cards, reducing manual entry of card details and passwords from the moment the card arrives.
Data Tokens
For the last 10 years, Visa has added security to the payments ecosystem by tokenizing payments and removing sensitive cardholder account information from the payment flow. Today, Visa has crossed the 1 billion mark in tokens issued across Asia Pacific, with widescale adoption by merchants and issuers in the region. As new data regulations create a guide for better consumer data privacy practices and Gen AI transforms how we discover things online, Visa believes that payment data has a role to play in delivering these new and improved experiences — and that consumers should be empowered to have more control too. Using its tokenization infrastructure, Visa will offer a new way for people to control their data and receive better shopping experiences powered by AI.
Visa data tokens let consumers whose financial institution participates in the program consent to sharing their data as they shop online, then see where it’s been shared and revoke access right from their banking app. With data tokens, Visa and participating banks can enable an experience where a merchant can request consent from the consumer to get more personalized offers as they shop. If the consumer agrees, behind-the-scenes, Visa issues a private data token to the merchant complete with AI-generated insights based on the consumer’s transaction data. The data token can be used with the merchant’s AI models to deliver real-time recommendations for the shopper. Visa will also pass the data token to the consumer’s bank to capture where the data has been shared, so the consumer can easily review where it has been shared in their mobile banking app and revoke access if they choose.

Young engineering student Ivan Renz Eser, the winning team’s leader, is currently doing his on-the-job-training at Xinyx Design as a Design Automation intern, a testament to how UNLOCKED paves the way for career opportunities and drives innovation in the Philippines.
