    BYD Cars PH launches innovative BYD app to enhance vehicle ownership

    BYD Cars Philippines is strengthening its commitment to the Philippine market by launching the BYD App, a new mobile application that will elevate the overall customer ownership experience through the convenience of vehicle monitoring at the palm of your hands.

    Through ACMobility, Ayala Corporation’s end-to-end mobility solutions platform, BYD is pushing for a heightened and more convenient ownership experience by leveraging the brand’s advanced technology. 

    Alongside the new BYD App, BYD Cars Philippines will also introduce software updates for customers who previously purchased their BYD electric vehicles so that the BYD App integrates seamlessly with the vehicles’ DiLink connectivity system.

    The new BYD app integrates with the DiLink system which brings a safer, smarter, and more comfortable driving experience to vehicle owners thanks to its wide array of advanced technologies. These include voice recognition, built-in navigation, geo-mapping, and other services such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 4G connectivity. 

    Going beyond the industry standard of a two to three-year subscription for connected services, the BYD app sets itself apart with a free 10-year subscription included with the purchase of a BYD vehicle.

    The app lets users monitor their vehicle in real-time, highlighting features such as the car’s status, location, and battery condition. It also offers remote control functionality to operate the door locks, horn, and lights and to set any cooling or heating functions. 

    The app also monitors key vehicle stats, such as its charging percentage, vehicle health, tire pressure, and a brief car driving history. It can even schedule the climate control system to turn on at a specified time and applies to all models. As seamless connectivity is a highlight of the app, it also supports over-the-air updates ensuring that your vehicle has the latest software available.  

    Keeping the Party Going with Stingray Karaoke

    Along with the launch of the BYD app, new software that broadens the entertainment factor of BYD vehicles will soon be introduced, including the Stingray Karaoke app. Coming soon, the app provides in-car karaoke with over 80,000 licensed songs in 25 languages and a growing music catalog. 

    Music selection is made easy by browsing by genre, theme, artist, or even by the lyrics of the song. The app also allows the user to harmonize with their favorite artist with the ability to turn on and off the lead vocals. To help set the mood, the app also features themed backgrounds that can be changed.

    Convenient In-car Web Browsing

    BYD vehicles will soon have a new web browser designed to offer a familiar and user-friendly experience akin to computer browsing. It will be included in a later update offering easy tab navigation, multi-window functionality, and the ability to save websites for quick access. To ensure safety, the web browser is only operable while the vehicle is parked, preventing its use while driving.

    Cisco and Mapúa University unveil digital classrooms equipped with new AI-led collaboration

    Mapúa University, one of the top engineering and technological schools in the Philippines, unveiled how it will leverage AI-led collaboration and connectivity tools to redefine the digital classroom experience for students in the upcoming academic year, beginning in August 2024. 

    Created in collaboration with Cisco as part of its Country Digital Acceleration (CDA) program in the Philippines, UGNAYAN 2030, the country’s first digital classrooms supports Mapúa’s Tri-X (triple experience) teaching and learning framework, which gives learners the power to choose their mode of participation for every lesson, whether that is face-to-face, synchronous, or asynchronous learning.

    Secure by design, Webex harnesses enterprise-grade protection that is built in, not bolted on to verify every learner, protect every device and browser, and ensure that all communications are secure with encryption.

    The university now boasts five digital classrooms; three are located at the Intramuros Campus, delivering courses on Engineering, Architecture, Liberal Arts, and Athletics, and two at the Makati Campus, providing courses on Information Technology, Media Studies, Business, Health Sciences, and Nursing. In the new academic year in August, Mapúa University will open the digital classrooms for official use in course lectures, extra-curricular activities, and inter-campus planning sessions and meetings across its Intramuros, Makati, Laguna, and Davao Campuses.

    These smart classrooms represent a step towards realizing Mapúa’s ambition of becoming a full-fledged smart campus.     TGR Chaos rules bigger, tougher Smart University Clash esports tournament

    The Teletigers (TGR) Chaos from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) captured the Championship at the Smart University Clash: Rise of Heroes, an inter-collegiate Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament. The team from España bested more than 200 teams from all over the Philippines in the premiere inter-collegiate esports tournament organized by Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) in partnership with Dark League Studios.

    “The Smart University Clash offers a platform for the youth to pursue their passion in esports. For the second straight year, Smart gathered the best collegiate teams from around the country to battle it out in a thrilling and competitive tournament,” said Melvin C. Nubla, FVP and group head for Go-to-Market and Subscriber Management Team at Smart.

    The Smart University Clash, part of the company’s effort to continue supporting the eSports industry and Filipino esports athletes from the grassroots to the professional league and international tournaments, saw more than 245 teams from across the Philippines slug it out in a single-elimination format.

    At the Grand Final, out to avenge their comrades who fell short of the championship in the first edition of the Smart University Clash, the quintet of TGR Chaos quickly went to work. It dismantled Alduana from the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue. Fueled by the desire to bring the trophy to España, the UST-based warriors swept their Visayas-based opponents in three straight matches.

    “Our hard work paid off. We just stuck to our strategy and treated it like a normal game. We didn’t let pressure get the better of us,” said Aaron ‘AaronQT’ Lim of TGR Chaos and this season’s most valuable player.

    Compared to the maiden tournament in 2023 that featured 59 teams, the 2024 edition is bigger and fiercer. Between May and June, the 245 participating teams from all over the country slugged it out in matches played on Smart Giga Arena, the country’s first all-in-one esports platform that brings the total esports experience at the fingertips of Filipino mobile gamers.

    When the frenzy settled down, the top two teams from the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, gathered in Metro Manila for quarter- and semi-finals. Aside from the TGR Chaos and Alduana, the other top eight contenders were TGR Fury from UST, GD Aurelion from Batangas State University–Alangilan Campus, Nine Lives from University of Perpetual Help System Laguna, Holy Name University (HNU) Falcons in Bohol, Titans Explicit from Liceo de Cagayan University in Cagayan de Oro, and Dorsu Stallions from Davao Oriental State University in Davao Oriental.

    Other than bragging rights and gold medals, TGR Chaos took home PHP120,000 in cash and a trophy. UCLM Alduana goes back to Cebu with silver medals and PHP80,000 richer. While Bohol’s HNU Falcons are returning home with PHP40,000 to go with their bronze medals. The rest of the quarterfinalists also received a surprise cash prize of PHP10,000 each from Smart.

    TOYOTA GAZOO Racing PH Cup kicks off 2024 race season

    Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) recently kicked off the 10th season of its motorsports program with the first race weekend of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup). The thrill-filled event saw thousands of spectators at the Clark International Speedway as more than 30 racers battled it out on track for the sprint and endurance races. 

    During the opening ceremony, TMP President Masando Hashimoto revealed that he would be participating as a racer under the Novice Class – a new circuit racing class that gathers winners and top performers from the Autocross Challenge. He was joined by influencers Lexi Mendiola and Reph Bangsil, media racers Jamil Lacuna, Jose Altoveros, Pablo Salapantan and John Ray San Diego, and sim racer Russel Reyes.

    Seasoned racers under the Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting classes also returned to the track to bring adrenaline-pumping action with 2024 newcomers.

    The morning saw racers driving under sunny skies, while the afternoon was met with rain showers. The differing weather conditions put both racers and cars to the test, providing fans with high-octane wheel-to-wheel battles.

    Four-wheeled showstoppers were also spotted on track as car club members took to the speedway their GR performance vehicles for the Car Club Track Day. This was followed by a driving exhibition by drifters Hanz Jimenez and Dane Cruz.
