After a long hiatus, Ragnarok, the MMORPG that started it all, is officially back in the Philippines.
To celebrate the momentous occasion, Ragnarok’s developer Gravity Co. Ltd., and regional publishers Electronics Extreme Ltd. and ELITE threw a well-attended bash at SM North EDSA’s Annex on May 7.
The Ragnarok Festival featured celebrity guests from both the showbiz and gaming communities, Ragnarok-inspired contests, a parade of character class cosplay, guild-based competition, a raffle draw, and performances from Imago and Sandwich.
“To have a successful launch, we are ready to showcase our vast amount of content that has been built through 15 years of global service. We might also have potential plans to develop new content specifically for the Filipino users,” said Yoshinori Kitamura, COO of Gravity Co. Ltd., at the event.
The company has been actively communicating with over 200,000 users since April through social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Gravity, in cooperation with the local publishers, have plans to implement policies and content based on the opinions gathered from the communication in their service in the Philippines.
Ragnarok is currently in closed beta and will proceed with the launch after the end of May. The game received high praise on its relaunch in Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia, and became the most popular game in Taiwan and Thailand.
Since the game’s launch in the Philippines in 2003, it has developed a large following which rose to nearly 10 million active users at the height of its popularity in the country.
“We all should not view the last five years as lost time. We should see this as a time that is necessary to meet each other again and start a new beginning,” Kitamura added.
