A lot of people were understandably upset when HP’s previous CEO, Leo Apotheker announced that HP was thinking of exiting the computer business and possibly going the way of IBM. Well, a lot of things have changed in HP since August (which includes Apotheker being booted out, replaced by Meg Whitman as new President and CEO) and it seems that the company will be staying in the PC business after all. Meg Whitman said that “HP objectively evaluated the strategic, financial and operational impact of spinning off PSG. It’s clear after our analysis that keeping PSG within HP is right for customers and partners, right for shareholders, and right for employees,” in press release. The release also highlights the role of the PSG (Personal Systems Group), saying that its “PSG is a key component of HP’s strategy to deliver higher value, lasting relationships with consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers. The HP board of directors is confident that PSG can drive profitable growth as part of the larger entity and accelerate solutions from other parts of HP’s business.”
