    ArchivesIBM's vision of the future

IBM shares its sixth installment of the “Next 5 in 5” – which is a list of predictions of technology’s advancements over the next five years that will ultimately change the way that we live.

While becoming clairvoyant is certainly no easy task, IBM has surprisingly had a good track record thus far. Their “Next 5 in 5” is created based on observing the latest social trends and taking a look at current and emerging technologies.

This issue describes several very feasible achievements. In five years, IBM says we will be powering homes with our own kinetic energy, passwords will be based on our own biological makeup, tangible forms of “mind reading” will come to light, advanced global mobile connectivity will flourish, and junk mail will become a thing of the past.

I’m sure you’ve honed in on their most interesting prediction – mind reading. IBM thinks that they will be able to successfully connect your brain to your smartphone or tablet, and you will be able to call a contact just by thinking about it. If you’ve been keeping up with the latest developments and research on the brain, there is a very real possibility that it might happen in the next five years.

    What do you think?
