We wish we were making this up, but we’re totally and completely serious – according to the Wall Street Journal, director Brett Ratner (who directed the Rush Hour film series, The Family Man, Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand) is rumored to be making an animated television series based on the hugely popular Facebook game, Farmville . If you’ve been living under a rock for the past five years, Farmville and its sequel, Farmville 2 are highly popular games on Facebook made by social games company Zynga that allow players to grow their own farm with the help of their friends. Rattner will be working with Canadian television production company Six Eleven Media and will serve as the series’  executive producer, along with Kirk Schenck, Charles Bishop and Nina Gelb.

“FARMVILLE is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience,” Ratner said in a statement.

We’re totally and completely speechless for this one. There hasn’t really been a good track record for games made into movies and TV series (just Google Uwe Boll and his subsequent train wrecks) even with interesting titles and properties, so you can probably forgive us if we’re extremely skeptical if anyone would watch a movie about people planting wheat and asking their friends for some extra seeds.
