As part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Mapúa Institute of Technology Student Branch’s (IEEE-MITSB) mission to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, the organization will again host its main event this year, IEEE Week 2017 with the theme The Convergence of Realities.

For the past years, IEEE-MITSB has conducted various events for electrical, electronics, and computer engineering students. With the full support of the IEEE: Philippines Section, along with other student branches from University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle University, and University of the East – Caloocan, the organization established a platform for continuous learning and knowledge transfer.

This year, the weeklong festivities aim to share the importance of technological advancements made by converging virtualization with reality, hence the term mixed realities.

The weeklong event will kick off with the technical seminars on June 6 and 7, which will include a series of talks from experts in fields: Swarm Robotics, Error Resilient Video Coding and Communications, Electrical Grounding Installation, Virtual and Augmented Realities, and Mixed Realities.

On June 8 and 9, the organization will hold its Radio Broadcasting Competition and Quiz Bee: Battle of the Brains, respectively. The Radio Broadcasting Competition is a one-day event to demonstrate the participants’ understanding in Journalism through Radio Broadcasting. The Quiz Bee, on the other hand, aims to test the knowledge of participating students in the field of electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.

On June 10, the organization will host its flagship event, the 14th Annual Project Design Competition. This event aims to showcase prototypes created by participating students, made with their own innovative features and purposes. The competition is deemed to be the forerunner for future research endeavors in the organization, as well as in other IEEE Student Branches.

IEEE Week 2017: The Convergence of Realities will not only conduct technical seminars and events for electrical, electronics, and computer engineering students. The event also aims to be a venue for students to celebrate technology, meet experts in different fields, discuss with co-engineering students, and more.

Come and celebrate with the rest of the Mapúa Student Branch this coming June 6 – 10, 2017 and discover how the convergence of realities play a major role in the advancement of technology and in shaping the humanity’s future.
