Last May 9 to 11, 2014, Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) and the Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC) partnered with Catanduanes District Representative Cesar Sarmiento to launch the first ever Careful and Safe Riding Summit at Rizal Plaza, Virac Catanduanes.
That laid the path towards HPI having a more proactive role in promoting road safety throughout the country. Supported by the Transportation Committee of the House of Representatives, a new partnership was recently forged between HPI and the 2nd District of Batangas City. Signing the Memorandum of Understanding were Congressman Raneo Abu and Mr. Pedro Aguire II, along with Honda president and general manager Yasushi Okamoto; assistant vice president for safety riving promotions Gene Paralisan; adviser for business administration division Masakazu Kawai; HSDC operations manager Joseph de la Cruz; and safety riding promotions project head Peter Gatchalian.
Okamoto believes that by emphasizing the preservation of life, motorcycle riders will be able to further realize the joy and freedom of two-wheeled mobility.
This year’s Safety Riding Summit will be held on March 7 and 8. Activities include seminars, lectures, learn-to-ride, safety riding challenge, and Ayatori or “Road Safety” for kids. The safety riding challenge will test and assess riders on their road know-how, skills, and good practice.
