Apple buys Topsy, a startup that specializes in Twitter analytics

Screen Shot 2013-12-03 at 3.16.36 PMThe social media analytics startup Topsy Labs, Inc., a firm that specializes in analyzing Twitter conversations, has been acquired by Apple in what The Wall Street Journal reports as a deal worth more than USD 200 million.

Because it is one of the handful of services that have been given access to the data “fire hose” by Twitter, Inc., Topsy has access to the full stream of tweets since 2006, and this is what it uses to analyze sentiments on Twitter and measure the reach of a message or hashtag for its clients.

According to The Wall Street Journal, an unnamed Apple spokesperson confirmed the deal, but refused to discuss the acquisition any further. “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” commented the spokesperson.

This is, in and of itself, not particularly new, but these illustrations that he made of popular Sci-Fi movies are just absolutely adorable. He goes and re-imagines beloved characters such as Robocop the Predator and the Xenomorph and draws them in super cute Anime style. We’re not 100% sure the original creators are going to be too fond of them, but the end results are just too kawaii to share. Hit the LINK to view some of his work. (via xombiedirge.com)

The Nexus 5 is coming to the Philippines. For real.

    unnamed

Last week, at an event to which we were invited, we got some really good news from a very reliable source. The source, who shall remain unnamed mentioned that the Google/LG Nexus 5 will be coming to the Philippines in very short order through one of the local telcos. This is really great news for those who have been waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat device. There is no word on pricing, so we don’t know if it’ll be keeping the low price that has made it so popular overseas, or the price of admission will be at par with the kind of device it is, nor is there any word on the storage sizes to be made available. For those of you who need a refresher, the Nexus 5 by LG closely resembles the G2, and carries quite an impressive spec sheet, with a quad-core processor, the latest mobile graphics, 2GB of RAM and a gorgeous 5-inch screen. For more news, you’re all just going to have to wait a little longer, as the reported launch will be the first week of December.
