    Borderlands 4 game review

Seeking out a game that blends my two favorite game genres, namely the (J)RPG and first-person shooter (FPS), has always been exciting. Game developers seek to experiment with blending two (or more) genres in a blend of harmony that will make gamers remember it forever. The Borderlands series does a great job of this, and even throws in a hefty dose of humor to keep things cool in the heat of battle. As the shining example of the “looter-shooter” genre, can Borderlands 4 keep gamers happy while innovating enough to keep them wanting more?

Borderlands 4 brings us to a new planet, Kairos, where players must confront the Timekeeper, who reigns supreme over the planet in Dominion City. A brand new set of Vault Hunters appears on the planet and joins forces with the Crimson Resistance to revolt against the Timekeeper. The planet is divided into four regions: the Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, the Terminus Range, and Dominion City, home of the Timekeeper himself.

What gives Borderlands games their unique qualities is Gearbox Software’s eccentric approach to making this franchise—weird can be good if all else comes together just right. Certainly, the humor may not appeal to everyone reading this. Still, you can’t help but laugh at all the random dialogue, appearance of the characters, and the ridiculousness of the enemies in appearance and actions. You get to pick from one of four Vault Hunters, and this largely depends on your playstyle. I went with Harlowe because manipulating the laws of physics in a shooter game has always appealed to me. For those who like getting up close and personal, one might choose Amon. If you like to kill things mindlessly, then Vex is a great choice; those who are into hit-and-run tactics might choose Rafa as he can quickly flee from battles.

The playstyle remains similar to previous installments, but some great quality-of-life changes and new abilities make the game more enjoyable. You can switch weapons quickly with the new weapon wheel, bringing more fluidity to combat. You can also dash and double jump, which is a huge boon for Rafa players as his toolkit relies a lot on hit-and-run tactics. A feature many will enjoy is the ability to reset boss battles, allowing you to gain lots of HP and farm rare items, but this is only available after you complete the main story.

One of my favorite new features is repkits, which allow you to heal during battle instead of trying to find health packs elsewhere. You can also summon vehicles to your location when you explore Kairos instead of hunting down Catch-A-Ride stations, which can get you somewhere if you’re lost (or impatient). You can even swap difficulties mid-game, which will allow you to take it easy or challenge you at your own discretion. There are also some smaller changes, such as a combat radar and a hologram path. The combat radar helps you strategize what will happen next.

One of my main complaints about the game is that it heavily leans into the looter aspect way too hard: for every awesome piece of loot you get, expect dozens of terrible items. This is not unique to the franchise or even video games themselves, but thankfully, the loot management system makes sure that inventory bloat doesn’t make this experience worse. The encounter rate is also ridiculous, but as someone who is used to playing and reviewing difficult games, it didn’t faze me in particular. I would understand if newer players did get frustrated with waves upon waves of enemies coming at you, but that’s simply what the Borderlands experience is.

    Borderlands 4

The question remains: is it still the Borderlands experience we all know and love? In my nearly two decades of reviewing games, games in successful franchises can add new features to make them look like entirely different games and experiences, some for the better (think Final Fantasy VII) or worse (Command & Conquer 4). In this case, the experience is rather varied and fun, and you can wildly experiment with what you have available. This makes this installment of Borderlands a return to form, even if it has many new additions to the game.

Powerhouse Tools introduces new technology to celebrate 15 years of Filipino welding excellence

Powerhouse Tools, a leading name in hardware supplies in the Philippines, celebrates 15 years in the industry by launching advanced technology and empowering Filipinos in their craft with the help of partner institutions, the Wood Academy and the TESDA-accredited Power Skills Technical Center (PSTC).

The brand’s new industry-leading welding machines, the Migtech 3-in-1 inverter and the Turbomaxx Plus MMA inverter, launch this November. Designed for durability and versatility, both promise to meet the evolving needs of professionals and learners alike.

The Migtech 3-in-1 combines MIG, MMA, and TIG welding capabilities, operates at 200A-300A, and works with flux-cored wire. Meanwhile, the Turbomaxx Plus MMA inverter features IGBT technology and a digital control panel and delivers 200A-550A power for electrode welding in construction and fabrication work.

“Powerhouse Tools is always on the lookout for cutting-edge technology and innovation that serves our local professionals. We see value in creating more opportunities for them, hence the launch of our Migtech 3-in-1 and the Turbomaxx Plus MMA inverter machines. Our goal is not only to make their work efficient, but their daily life much easier as they balance life and work,” said Kendrick Siy, marketing director of Powerhouse Tools.

Mario Abella Alcomendras showcases his workshop equipped with multiple Powerhouse tools, a testament to years of brand loyalty.

Powerhouse Tools machines have earned strong endorsements from professional welders and daily users across the industry.  Professional welder Mario Abella Alcoendras, also known as “Roy Welding,” relies on the Migtech 200 for tubular welding, wherein the automatic wire speed control makes his work faster and more consistent. “Tatlong taon ko na itong ginagamit at napakasulit talaga. Okay na okay pa rin ang performance ng Migtech 200 ko—walang pagbabago,” he said. (I’ve been using this for three years and it’s really worth it. The performance of my Migtech 200 is still excellent—no changes.)

Marjo Lardera, “The Foot Master,” demonstrates his distinctive welding method using the Powerhouse MIGTECH machine.

The machines also prove their worth over years of consistent use. Marjo Lardera, known as “The Foot Master” for his distinctive welding method, said, “Powerhouse Migweld-200Tech Flux Cored po ang gamit ko. Iwas butas at maganda rin siyang kumapit. Sabi nga nila sa Ilonggo, ang ‘agi kuno nami’—ibig sabihin, maganda ang pagka-welding. Mga apat na taon ko nang gamit ang Powerhouse at sa awa ng Diyos, hindi pa nasisira. Kumbaga, durable pa rin,” he shared. (I use the Powerhouse Migweld-200Tech Flux Cored. It prevents holes and has good adherence. As they say in Ilonggo, ‘agi kuno nami’—meaning the welding quality is excellent. I’ve been using Powerhouse for about four years, and by God’s grace, it hasn’t broken down. In other words, it’s still durable.)

Beyond durability and power, these machines play a crucial role in developing the Philippines’ next generation of skilled welders.

Powerhouse Tools partner Wood Academy uses Migtech machines in its one-day basic metalworking workshops. Students are taught how to operate industry-standard equipment, completing practical projects that provide them with DIY skills and basic welding knowledge.

    Powerhouse Tools
Wood Academy student practices flux-cored gasless welding techniques using the MIGTECH machine during hands-on training.

In another effort to advance welding education in the Philippines, Powerhouse Tools supplies PSTC with Turbomaxx Plus machines for NC1 and NC2 certification classes. This gives students hands-on experience and real-world training with industry-grade equipment, highlighting Powerhouse’s commitment to equipping Filipino welders with the latest technology and practical skills.

Students train with the Turbomaxx Plus Inverter machine during hands-on welding classes at Power Skills Technical Center.

Beyond training, students get to test new Powerhouse products and provide performance feedback. This creates a valuable partnership that benefits both education and product development.

“These partnerships are strategic investments in developing the skilled workforce that drives Philippine industrial growth, with quality equipment as the foundation,” said Siy.

Through its #SaPowerhouseKaYeah campaign, Powerhouse Tools champions both equipment excellence and educational advancement. As the company celebrates its 15th year, these pillars position the company to lead the growth of the Philippine welding industry.

Alipay+ expands payments and digital ecosystem as mobile wallets become a catalyst for new travel habits and inclusive growth

Alipay+, Ant International’s global wallet gateway, which enables merchants to accept payments from leading mobile wallets and digital banking apps, has revealed three pivotal trends shaping tourism in 2025 and beyond.

To empower global tourism, Alipay+ has significantly expanded its payments and digital services ecosystem, in three ways:

    • Payments: Growing cross-border payment acceptance for Alipay+ to more than 100 markets, and expanding its partner ecosystem to 40, representing 1.8 billion users
    • Partners: Supporting [new] Bluecode (Europe), PayPay (Japan) and KBank (Thailand) users to pay with their banking and wallet apps when traveling abroad
    • Services: New services include (i) Alipay+ Voyager, a built-in AI travel agent, integrating partners like Trip.com, Agoda and Grab, (ii) Alipay+ GenAI Cockpit, an AI-as-a-Service solution for digital wallets to build AI-native solutions, and (iii) Expanded Global Blue in-app tax refunds for more partners, creating an end-to-end digital experience

“Travel has a significant impact to local economies, and we believe that mobile wallets can be a catalyst for growth, connecting travellers and businesses in more ways than ever,” said Douglas Feagin, president of Ant International. “Alipay+ aims to support the travel ecosystem with AI-powered payments and digital services to enable online and offline merchants, tourism partners, and other fintechs to create customer-centric engagements for mobile-savvy consumers. Through greater collaboration, we can create a new future of travel, one that enhances the experience for consumers, and promotes growth and connectivity.

Mobile payments become the norm, driving inclusive growth for global merchants

Travellers are embracing the use of their trusted home payment app, with more than 6.5 million digital wallet users using Alipay+ cross-border payments for the first time in the first half of 2025. Transactions across online travel agents and in-store merchants increased by more than 30%. Not only can travellers travel and pay “like a local” more conveniently, but now businesses can reach more customers easily.

To ensure inclusive growth at scale, Alipay+ is deepening its collaborations with national payment networks. Alipay+ transactions via national standardised QRs have almost doubled, as travellers can easily make payments at SMEs and merchants in smaller cities, including in destinations like South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and more.

Short-haul, value-conscious travel on the rise, opening up more opportunities for local businesses

Travellers are seeking greater value when they travel by going to places closer to home, looking for deals, and spending at local merchants.

Asia is leading global travel growth in 2025, with intra-Asia travel a big contributor. China, Japan, South Korea, and particularly Southeast Asia are amongst the most popular travel destinations globally, with intra-Asia transactions by Alipay+ partners increasing 32 percent year-on-year.

Travellers want to save when they can, without compromising on experiencing local destinations. Redemptions via A+ Rewards, an in-app marketing platform where travellers can browse local promotions and coupons, increased 57 percent. Travellers are also spending more at local businesses, with transactions under USD10 increasing 37 percent.

While hotspots within Europe like France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom remain popular, destinations like Hungary, Greece and Norway saw the biggest growth in transactions, as travellers aim to explore new places while maximising their budgets.

Experiences and niche services in higher demand as travellers seek more conscious travel

Travellers are spending across more diverse travel scenarios beyond retail. While transactions for attractions and F&B continue to see significant growth, spending on local services including beauty, medical and education have become one of the key aspects of travel. For example, K-beauty transactions in South Korea increased 115 percent year-on-year.

Travellers are also going around more independently, with transactions on ride-hailing platforms doubling, and those on public transport increasing close to 50 percent. The expansion of Alipay+ acceptance across merchants and different modes of transportation has made it easier for travellers to visit smaller towns including Shikokuchūō in Japan, Jeollabuk-do in South Korea, Semporna in Malaysia and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province in Thailand.

PH motorcycle industry maintains upward growth in first 8 months of 2025—MDPPA

The Philippine motorcycle industry continues to ride strong through 2025, with the latest data from the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association Inc. (MDPPA) pointing to robust year-on-year growth for unit sales in the first eight months of the year.

In August 2025 alone, the industry sold 158,228 units, representing an 18.4 percent increase compared to the 133,689 units sold in the same month the previous year. Overall sales from January to August of this year are now at 1,227,160 units, up by 11.8 percent from 1,098,056 units recorded during the same period in 2024.

This consistent growth in sales is attributed mainly to the sustained demand for motorcycles in the country, as Filipinos continue to turn to these vehicles as a practical and affordable mobility solution, especially for navigating increasingly congested roads.

Earlier this year, MDPPA shared a forecast projecting a five percent overall growth for 2025, fueled by “strong consumer demand, expanding delivery and mobility services, and the appeal of motorcycles as a practical mobility option.”

Automatic motorcycles remain the top choice among Filipino buyers, with sales for August 2025 reaching 106,382 units, up 24.8 percent from 85,212 units in August 2024. Mopeds are also among the most in-demand among consumers, with 21,805 units sold in August 2025, up by 3 percent from 21,177 in the same period last year. Business motorcycles also recorded strong growth with 26,399 units sold in August 2025, up by 14.4 percent versus 23,080 units from the same month last year.

The Other categories that include Street Models (standard/naked bikes, cruisers, sport, or touring models, or simply units that are commonly used or built for everyday riding), Big Bikes, Off-Road, 3 Wheeler, and Electric had a total of 3,642 units sold in August 2025 compared to 4,220 in August 2024, a difference of 578 units or 13.7 percent.

“Despite declines in some segments, the industry as a whole remains in a healthy position, and we are confident that the broad appeal of motorcycles will continue to drive demand moving forward,” said Engr. Alexander A. Cumpas, MDPPA president. “This positive growth trajectory is a testament to the enduring relevance and growing importance of motorcycles in the everyday lives of Filipinos, underscoring a resilient and evolving industry.”

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) is the country’s most relevant association proactive to the needs of stakeholders in the country’s motorcycle industry. MDPPA members include leading motorcycle manufacturers: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS. Among the many goals of MDPPA is addressing the global industry gaps in road safety, regulation compliance, environmental protection, technology, and innovation through active consultation, representation, and communication with various stakeholders.

One of the most recent initiatives of MDPPA is the Tropang MAALAM (Tropang Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino) campaign, which aims to promote rider safety through education, awareness, and training.

Ninja Van powers Mindanao’ rise amid logistics challenges

Mindanao is rapidly establishing itself as one of the Philippines’ strongest growth centers, opening up new markets for businesses traditionally centered in Metro Manila and Luzon.

Northern Mindanao has officially crossed the trillion-peso economy mark in 2024, boasting a 6.0% growth rate that exceeds the national average. The region’s 42 ecozones and over 100 active enterprises highlight its growing appeal to investors, while consumer demand is surging – NielsenIQ projects Mindanao as the frontrunner in FMCG growth by 2025.

Yet for businesses outside the region, growth potential alone is not enough. Significant geographical distance, fragmented supply chains, limited visibility, and the need for operational precision make expansion a challenging and daunting task. This creates a crucial gap between opportunity and reality that needs to be bridged by a reliable logistics partner.

“Mindanao’s market offers a massive opportunity, but it has to be earned,” said Vin Perez, Ninja Van Philippines country head. “Those who can consistently deliver across the region will be the ones to benefit as demand accelerates.”

    Coverage to Unlock Growth

Infrastructure investments such as the Davao International Airport and Davao International Container Terminal have created favorable conditions for trade, but a logistical divide remains. Mindanao’s varied geography and dispersed population present unique challenges for consistent and comprehensive delivery.

Only a handful of logistics providers can operate at scale in Mindanao. Ninja Van Philippines is among them, complementing infrastructure developments with a robust multimodal transport system to cover 95% of the region, excluding only Basilan. A combination of dedicated air and land haul services feeds parcels to Mindanao, while a fleet of around 2,500 active riders ensures localized last-mile delivery across communities.

“In a market where speed and reliability are paramount, a logistics partner is more than just a delivery service—they are the competitive advantage businesses need to serve the region and keep pace with its rapid economic growth,” Perez noted.

    From Visibility to Local Know-How

    Mindanao

For businesses managing operations from Metro Manila, distance often means blind spots. Limited visibility, long transit times, multiple handoffs, and inconsistent data can lead to delays, errors, overstocking, or missed sales.

Ninja Van’s advanced end-to-end tracking system addresses this by providing continuous visibility into every stage of the product’s journey, giving shippers a single, centralized view of their operations.

“Transparency empowers businesses to make informed decisions and react quickly to any potential delays, providing a single source of truth for all parcel data,” Perez explains.

But while infrastructure and technology are essential, deep local knowledge is what truly differentiates a logistics partner, especially for last-mile deliveries. Ninja Van riders and operations staff are hired from the communities they serve, giving them a firsthand understanding of the area’s geography and cultural nuances. In communities without house numbers or mapped streets, this hyperlocal familiarity becomes crucial in the face of obstacles like weak network signals or incorrect pins.

“Fast delivery, reliable routing, and lower rejection rates all stem from one key differentiator: people on the ground,” notes Perez. “In last-mile logistics, having a local know-how makes all the difference. Our people know which barangay captain to ask, which landmarks matter, and how to adapt when the map does not match reality.”

To scale operations quickly without losing local nuances, Ninja Van also partners with regional service contractors. Ultimately, this combination of advanced visibility and deep local knowledge creates a supply chain that is not only reliable but also adaptable, enabling businesses to maintain operational precision, reduce costs, and ensure a seamless customer experience, which are all crucial for building a strong brand in a new market.

As Mindanao cements its place as an economic frontier, reliable logistics will play a decisive role in helping businesses participate in and sustain this momentum. For providers like Ninja Van Philippines, navigating these challenges is not only a regional play – but a blueprint for serving complex geographies across the country and beyond.

    Test Drive: MG ZS Hybrid+

In the financial markets, we live by one rule: maximize returns, minimize risk. I apply the same ruthless calculus to cars. My ideal ride isn’t just about horsepower; it’s a value proposition—reliable performance, tangible efficiency, and tech that actually deletes frustration, not adds to it. I took the MG ZS Hybrid+ for a spin through Metro Manila’s most rigorous stress test to see if its numbers add up.

    Design: 4/5

The ZS Hybrid+ rocks a clean, modern aesthetic: Think a crisp barong with a subtly aggressive cut. The LED headlights are like high-lumen projectors, cutting through the perpetual “-ber months” twilight, while the 18-inch alloys and black interior are premium features that scream “executive class” without the executive price tag. The front grille, however, is all business, looking less like a car part and more like a jet engine’s air intake, ready to suck in not just air but also the soul of the slow-moving sedan in front of you.

Inside, the cabin is a well-optimized user interface. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is the command center, bright and responsive, minimizing the need to dig through sub-menus while navigating a chaotic Ayala intersection. The leather seats are comfortable, though the lack of bolsters and lumbar support means you might do a little more core workout and stretching during a two-hour EDSA crawl. Soft-touch materials on the dash say “premium,” but the door cards whisper “practicality” to keep the MSRP in check. The real win is the rear legroom and large windows, which effectively counteract any feeling of being trapped in a metal box during a monsoon-season traffic jam.

    Hardware: 4/5

This is where the car’s IPO shines. Under the hood, it’s running a sophisticated dual-core setup: a 1.5L gasoline engine and an electric motor. Combined, they deliver a robust 197PS and 250Nm of torque, managed by a dedicated 3-speed hybrid transmission.

In the stop-and-go chaos of Metro Manila, this isn’t a car; it’s an energy management system. The electric motor handles the low-power tasks like creeping forward in traffic, idling at a red light, with silent, zero-emission efficiency. It’s like your car has gone into power-saving mode, conserving precious fossil fuel for when it’s actually needed. When you need a burst of power to merge onto C5, the gasoline engine kicks in seamlessly. The transition is so smooth you’ll miss the old-school jerk of a conventional transmission. My drive to Nuvali felt like a glitch in the matrix: How did I use so little fuel?

The suspension is tuned for Manila’s pockmarked asphalt, absorbing imperfections like a good shock absorber absorbs your frustrations. The MG Pilot suite (adaptive cruise, lane-keep assist) acts like advanced driver-assist scripts, automating the tedious parts of highway driving. My only quibble? For this price, the manual tailgate feels like an analog artifact in a digital world.

    User Experience: 4/5

The UX here is brilliantly intuitive. You don’t “operate” the hybrid system; it operates around you. The cabin remains an oasis of quiet, a critical feature when your external environment is a symphony of horns and bus engines. The infotainment system integrates flawlessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring your Waze and Spotify are always just a tap away—a non-negotiable for survival.

Passenger comfort is a huge win. The rear AC vents are a love letter to backseat passengers, and the generous legroom means no one arrives at the family reunion with cramped knees. The cargo space is more than enough for a weekend’s worth of groceries from S&R or a trip to the province.

    Value: 4/5

Priced at PHP1.33M, the ZS Hybrid+ isn’t the cheapest in its class. It’s a premium. But in finance, we look at the Total Cost of Ownership. This is where it crushes the competition.

The fuel savings are immediate and obvious; it sips gasoline where others guzzle. But the masterstroke is MG’s warranty: a 5-year/100,000-km vehicle warranty and a massive 8-year/160,000-km warranty on the hybrid battery. This isn’t just a promise; it’s a risk mitigation strategy that directly addresses the “‘Naku, baka mahal ang pagawa ng battery niyan pag nasira!'” anxiety that holds many Pinoys back from hybrids. It’s the company putting its money where its mouth is, building crucial trust in its technology.

    Bottomline

The MG ZS Hybrid+ isn’t built for rock crawling or winning drag races. It’s engineered for a far more specific and demanding purpose: mastering the soul-crushing, fuel-burning, patience-testing reality of Filipino urban driving.

It’s a pragmatic, high-tech solution that turns traffic from a costly ordeal into an opportunity for efficiency. For the driver who views their car as both a sanctuary and a strategic asset, the ZS Hybrid+ isn’t just a purchase—it’s one of the smartest investments you can make on four wheels.

Epson SC-S7130 elevates large-format printing to a whole new level of efficiency and versatility

Epson, a leader in professional printing, has launched the SureColor-S7130 (SC-S7130), the latest addition to its acclaimed SC S-Series of eco-solvent printers. Designed for print service providers specializing in small-volume production, the SC-S7130 combines enhanced productivity, reliability, and print quality in a cost-effective solution, making it a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the SC-S40670.

With the equipment segment expected to capture more than 75% of the market revenue in Asia Pacific’s commercial printing market, where there’s also a growing demand for short-run and on-demand printing, the SC-S7130 aims to meet evolving needs by empowering businesses to operate more competitively and sustainably.

    Engineered for Productivity and Performance

The SC-S7130 features an upgraded PrecisionCore Micro TFP Printhead, delivering close to a 24% increase in print speed in default mode. Equipped with 3,200 nozzles and a wider printhead than its predecessor, the SC-S7130 achieves expanded print width in one pass—improving throughput across all print modes.

To minimize graininess and banding, the nozzles on the SC-S7130 have been specially redesigned to release smaller M-sized dot and larger L-sized dot for high quality print.

Ease of use is a hallmark of the SC-S7130, which features a 4.3-inch touch display for intuitive operation even when wearing gloves. The SC-S7130 also comes with Epson Edge Print Pro, the latest edition of Epson’s advanced image processing and production software that enhances user convenience and remote management during operations. Further, a new ‘Text Sharpness’ mode in Epson Edge Print Pro enables precise and crisp text printing with the SC-S7130.

    Printing made Ultra-Reliable

In addition to a newly designed printhead guard that flattens jammed media to prevent damage to the printhead, the carriage temperature sensor is now mounted closer to the nozzle surface for a more accurate reading. The sensor also detects temperature changes quickly, maintaining consistent color reproduction across jobs.

Equipped with a new Nozzle Verification Technology that monitors nozzle performance in real-time, the SC-S7130 is capable of automatically detecting clogged nozzles and triggering an alert so that businesses can act quickly, ensuring print quality is not compromised across jobs.

The SC-S7130 uses Epson UltraChromeTM GS3 inks in 800ml ink packs, replacing the 700ml ink cartridge found in its predecessor, thereby reducing waste and the frequency of ink replacements. Furthermore, the Epson UltraChromeTM GS3 ink technology is GreenGuard Gold certified for low chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds, making it safe for long-term indoor use.

A Holistic Solution for Diverse Printing Needs

In addition to delivering exceptional performance and enhanced productivity, the SC-S7130 also integrates seamlessly with Epson Cloud Solution Port, providing businesses with a holistic solution for managing their printing needs. This intuitive, cloud-based remote monitoring software offers real-time insights into printer fleet performance, usage and efficiency, empowering print service providers to make data-driven decisions.

With Epson Cloud Solution Port, businesses can also seamlessly integrate large printer fleets, monitor printer status, track ink consumption and access operation history remotely, to ensure optimal performance at all times.

“The SC-S7130 is engineered for a wide range of applications, including outdoor and indoor signage, banners and more. Its versatility and reliability, coupled with its cost-effective ownership, make this printer a valuable addition to any print service provider’s lineup,” said Noelle Gonzalez, head of marketing and customer service at Epson Philippines Corporation. “The SC-S7130 is a testament to Epson’s dedication to creating innovative solutions that empower businesses to remain competitive while meeting their unique needs.”
