LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) is pleased to announce the commencement of commercial operations for Phase 1 of the highly anticipated LRT-1 Cavite Extension project.

In a formal ceremony led by His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, the inauguration of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 was held last 15 November 2024, at the LRT-1 Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station in Paranaque City.

The five new stations under Phase 1 include Redemptorist – Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station. These additional stations are part of the 27 kilometers of the rail line’s alignment from its previous 20.7 kilometers with only 20 stations.

Starting 16 November 2024 (Saturday), commuters can already enjoy the convenience and efficiency of the extended LRT-1 line, which now spans a total of 5 cities: Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, and Paranaque.

“We are excited to announce that we have finally opened the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 to the public. This milestone marks a significant step in improving Metro Manila’s transportation system and providing our commuters with a more convenient and efficient travel experience. We are committed to continuously enhancing our services and delivering world-class public transportation,” LRMC president and CEO Mr. Enrico R. Benipayo.

LRMC will implement the existing LRT-1 train service hours for the 25 stations. For weekdays, the first train will depart from Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station and Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) Station at 4:30 AM, while the last train will leave Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station at 10:00 PM and Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) Station at 10:15 PM. On weekends and holidays, the first train will depart at 5:00 AM, and the last train will leave at 9:30 PM from Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) and 9:45 PM from Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) Station.

LRMC will also adopt the existing fare structure for the five new stations. The boarding fare remains at PHP13.29, with a distance fare of PHP1.21 per kilometer. The maximum Single Journey Ticket fare for an end-to-end trip from Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) Station to Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station and vice versa is PHP45, while Stored Value Card fare is at PHP43.

All stations have been designed with accessibility in mind, featuring elevators, escalators, and tactile guides to cater to the needs of persons with special needs in keeping with LRMC’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive transportation environment for all passengers.

The LRT-1 extension is a significant Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity to the south area of Metro Manila, easing traffic congestion and providing commuters with a faster and more convenient travel option. It will not only reduce travel time, but will also decongest major thoroughfares in the area by servicing additional 80,000 passengers to LRT-1’s daily ridership of 323,000.
