Garmin is expanding its running smartwatch lineup with the launch of the Forerunner 70, Forerunner 170, and Forerunner 170 Music, a trio of GPS smartwatches designed to support runners ranging from beginners to more experienced athletes.
The new wearables combine AMOLED displays, built-in GPS, health monitoring features, adaptive training tools, and long battery life in lightweight smartwatch designs aimed at helping users stay active without the complexity often associated with higher-end sports watches.
Positioned as more accessible additions to Garmin’s Forerunner ecosystem, the devices also bring several premium training and recovery features previously found on more advanced models.
Everyday running essentials with smarter training tools

The Forerunner 70 introduces core running functions including built-in GPS, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, pace tracking, and distance metrics.
Garmin also added new quick workout tools that allow users to generate workout suggestions based on preferred intensity levels and available time, simplifying training setup for newer runners.
The smartwatch supports Garmin Coach adaptive training plans, including newer lower-volume programs and run/walk sessions designed for beginners or returning runners.
Daily suggested workouts automatically adjust based on recent performance and recovery data, helping users maintain more personalized training routines.
Advanced features borrowed from higher-tier Forerunner models include training readiness, training status, wrist-based running power, and running dynamics powered by insights from the Garmin Human Performance Lab.
Health tracking beyond fitness
In addition to running features, the new Forerunner lineup includes expanded wellness monitoring designed to support everyday health tracking.
Users can access advanced sleep monitoring, sleep coaching, breathing variation analysis, heart rate variability (HRV) status, Pulse Ox monitoring, Health Status insights, and lifestyle logging features throughout the day.
Garmin noted that these features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes and are not medical diagnostic tools.
The watches also support smart notifications, LiveTrack, safety and tracking tools, and smartphone connectivity when paired with compatible devices.
Forerunner 170 adds music and contactless convenience

Building on the Forerunner 70, the Forerunner 170 adds Garmin Pay contactless payment support, allowing users to make purchases directly from their wrist once local bank compatibility becomes available in the Philippines.
The Forerunner 170 Music further expands functionality with onboard music storage and support for downloading playlists, podcasts, and songs from supported third-party streaming services for phone-free listening during workouts.
Both the Forerunner 170 and Forerunner 170 Music feature up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, while the Forerunner 70 offers up to 13 days.
Garmin is also offering multiple color options across the lineup, including citron, tidal blue, lavender, teal green, red pink, black, and whitestone finishes.
