    Honda Cars PH continues to champion young Filipino innovators in DOST-SEI’s 8th imake.wemake competition

    For the third year in a row, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) maintains its partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) for the 8th imake.wemake:create.innovate.collaborate competition. Through the imake.wemake competition, the DOST-SEI empowers young Filipino innovators to present inventive projects, driven by science, that offer unique solutions to pressing modern problems. HCPI supports the program as it aligns with the Honda Global Brand Slogan, “The Power of Dreams – How We Move You”, which signifies Honda’s commitment to innovation and making a difference in society. 

    The 8th cycle of the project culminated with its Final Presentation and Awarding Ceremony at Ascott Bonifacio Global City in Taguig last April 24-25, 2025. Each of the top 20 participating school teams presented innovative projects, which are the fruits of exceptional creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. As a testament to Honda’s strong commitment to supporting our youth for the future, HCPI continued its sponsorship of the Youth Innovation Prize (YIP) Award, through which three winning schools each receive a PHP200,000 cash prize for their innovative solutions and pursuit of their dreams.

    Ultimately, the Board of Judges evaluated and awarded the following top threschools with the YIP Award based on novelty and patentability, design and functionality, collaboration, practicability, presentation, timeliness and adherence:

    Project LUSAI: An IoT-based LiDAR-utilizing Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV) for Seagrass Mapping and Aquatic Inspections

    Project LUSAI is a device that utilizes USVs equipped with sensors and AI to monitor seagrass beds, detect underwater trash, and assess water quality. This project will highly benefit marine life as it outperformed the traditional manta tow method with its faster scanning and 3D map processing times. Real-time data for conservation efforts will be readily available to improve marine ecosystem management and protection.

    C.R.A.B.-Tech: Crustacean Robotic Autonomous Baiting Technology 

    C.R.A.B.-Tech is an automated crab-harvesting system designed to enhance efficiency, precision and sustainability in aquaculture. The bait trap system uses sensors and load cell technology to measure the size and weight of mud crabs, ensuring that only market-ready size crabs are harvested. C.R.A.B.-Tech’s focus on preventing the capture of undersized crabs leads to sustainable aquaculture, the preservation of healthy crab populations, and improved economic returns for mud crab farmers in the Philippines.

    Speech-to-Animation Device for Sign Language Inclusivity: Combination of Arduino Technology and Artificial Intelligence for Promotion of Equal Treatment of Deaf Individuals (SALIN) 

    Project SALIN is a wearable assistive device designed to foster inclusive communication for hearing-impaired individuals in the Philippines. The device detects speech, whether in English, Tagalog or both, and interprets information by showing the corresponding Filipino Sign Language (FSL) animated videos on the device’s screen in real time. Students from Rizal National High School were not only able to create an intelligent solution for the hearing-impaired community; more than that, the young innovators made significant contributions that will benefit the Special Needs Education (SNEd) sector — SNEd teachers, hearing families and all government agencies concerning SNEd.

    Engr. Mark Kennedy Bantugon, a DOST scholar and award-winning inventor of the Pili Seal, stood before the young innovators as one who was once in their shoes. Driven by scientific curiosity and an unyielding desire to create, he shared the story of the invention that forever changed his life. He concluded by leaving the students with a powerful reflection: “Never underestimate the power of humble beginnings. From small starts come great things, if you dare to keep building.”

    2025 Yamaha National Technician Grand Prix showcases the best in motorcycle service

    Yamaha Motor Philippines spotlighted the country’s most elite motorcycle technicians at the 2025 National Technician Grand Prix, a celebration of world-class service and technical mastery held at Festival Mall Alabang. Ten of the country’s best Yamaha mechanics showcased their expertise in two demanding challenges that tested both their customer service skills and technical abilities. 

    In the Customer Handling Challenge, participants were tasked with simulating real-life service scenarios. They walked customers through the repairs performed, explained their significance, and offered valuable maintenance advice. This test reinforces Yamaha’s belief that great service extends beyond repairs—it’s about building trust through clear and informed communication. Given only five minutes, they were put under the microscope as they delivered their service routine on stage with every word exchanged with their customer heard across the venue.

    The Technical Skills Challenge was an entirely different obstacle. It pushed diagnostic and repair abilities to the limit. Tackling complex engine issues assisted by the Yamaha Diagnostic tool. It is a specialized diagnostic system developed by Yamaha to facilitate efficient maintenance and troubleshooting of Yamaha motorcycles. It enables technicians to interface directly with a vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU), allowing for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and system resets. With only 60 minutes to identify and fix the problem, they demonstrated not only technical expertise, but their pride, resilience, and professionalism that exemplified Yamaha standards.

    When the clock hit zero and all the tools were laid down, only three technicians would rise to the summit of Yamaha Service excellence.

    The Champion of the Yamaha Motor Philippines National Technician Grand Prix was Leo Dumalag, the technician from 3S CDO 2 Cycle Marketing Lapasan CDO. His performance and technical precision set him apart from the competition. He has earned the honor of representing the Philippines at the World Technician Grand Prix in Japan, a brand-new Yamaha Aerox, and JPY40,000.

    The runner up, Jemuel Fajardo from 3S Motorcentral Sto. Tomas Batangas stepped up to the challenge and was on par with the champion nearly every step of the way.  Missing the top spot by a hair, he earned himself PHP50,000.

    Christopher Ian Linao from 3S Motorcentral General Trias, had an impressive overall performance throughout the competition. Aside from earning his spot in the top three which netted him PHP30,000, he also claimed the Customer Service Award and took home a special helmet. 

    The seven technicians outside the top three were recognized for their qualification to the NTGP and received each PHP5,000. 

    The National Technician Grand Prix is more than a competition; it’s a testament to Yamaha’s culture of continuous improvement. By challenging the mechanics to push their limits, they are encouraged to grow, learn, and lead the way in motorcycle care across the country.

    Bigger and better: Construction begins on new Isuzu Dumaguete facility

    Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), in partnership with its dealer group Southern Auto Mart, officially broke ground on the relocated site for Isuzu Dumaguete, signaling the start of a new chapter in delivering world-class automotive services to the region.

    The new dealership, designed in full compliance with the Isuzu Outlet Standard (IOS), reflects IPC’s commitment to upgrading its nationwide dealer network with modern, customer-focused facilities. “We are truly excited about this new location for Isuzu Dumaguete,” said IPC president Mikio Tsukui during the groundbreaking ceremony. “This relocation brings the Isuzu brand even closer to our valued customers in Dumaguete, making our products and services more accessible while raising the bar in customer experience.”

    Spanning a generous 3,144 square meters, the new Isuzu Dumaguete dealership will feature a 251-square-meter showroom that can showcase up to four vehicles, including Isuzu’s trusted line of light-duty trucks. Customers will enjoy a more immersive experience with a wider selection of vehicles on display. The service shop will be equipped with four well-ventilated bays, capable of handling both light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and commercial vehicle (CV) repairs. A thoughtfully designed customer lounge will offer a comfortable waiting area where clients can relax while their vehicles are serviced.

    The relocation and modernization of Isuzu Dumaguete come at an opportune time. Dumaguete continues to experience economic growth, with increasing demand for mobility and transport solutions.
