12th PH Electric Vehicle Summit pushes the button to ‘Spark Change, Drive Electric’

The biggest annual exhibition and conference promoting electric vehicles (EVs) in the country is mounting its 12th edition this year. The Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) 2024 will showcase the latest technologies, innovations, products, and accessories from major EV brands in the Philippines and the region.

“The 12th PEVS is designed to further ignite a powerful call to action for a transformative shift in transformation and mobility,” said Edmund Araga, president of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), a 17-year-old organization promoting wider EV adoption locally and staging the annual EV summit.

“With the theme ‘Spark Change, Drive Electric,’ PEVS 2024 entices everyone to be a part of the movement initiating a positive perception and behavior towards a cleaner and more electric future in transportation and mobility,” he added.

This year’s EV summit comes two years after the enactment of the EV Industry Development Act (Republic Act No. 11697), more popularly known as the EVIDA Law. The legislation paved the way for the Comprehensive Roadmap for the EV Industry (CREVI) that was rolled out by the Department of Energy (DOE) in 2023 and is serving as the ‘north star’ for EV stakeholders in the country.

    Inter-agency collaboration

Other government agencies are also contributing to the wider adoption of EVs among Filipinos. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is implementing the national Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) to entice local businesses to switch to EVs. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) continue to work on the modernization of public transportation.

For his part, President Ferdinand ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos has consistently supported the EV industry. He recently mandated government agencies to make EVs account for 10 percent of their fleet—double the minimum of 5 percent requirement stipulated in the EVIDA Law. President Marcos has also made clear his intention to accelerate the adoption of EVs in public and private sectors through various schemes and incentives.

Meanwhile, the adoption of EVs sparked greater potential in 2023, when sales of such vehicles jumped to 10,602, based on figures from Statista, compared to just 1,072 units sold in 2022. This year, sales of EVs are expected to further rise especially from September to December, which are the peak months for EV sales based on historical data.

    12th PEVS

The three-day PEVS 2024 is set from October 24 to 26, 2024 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in the SM Mall of Asia complex, which is considered as the most strategic and conducive venue for such trade shows. Registration is free and online through https://pevsummit.com.

Prior to the summit, EVAP has partnered with EVall Electric Vehicle Service to facilitate a 4-part training series conducted online via Google Meet. The sessions are bringing some EV experts from other countries to share insights and best practices that would benefit Filipino EV enthusiasts.

The 12th PEVS is co-presented by BYD; Dong Feng; Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc.; Nissan Philippines, Inc.; and VinFast Auto Philippines Corp. with Diamond Sponsors—Britannica United Motors, Inc. and QSJ Motors Philippines, Inc. (SERES EV Autogroup). Omoda & Jaecoo Motor Philippines, Inc. is a Platinum Sponsor, while Gold Sponsors include Power Equipment & Supplies, Inc. and Dangdang New Energy Auto Service (Philippines) Ltd. Corp (AION Philippines). Visit https://evap.com.ph for the complete list of PEVS 2024 sponsors, partners, and supporters.

Filipino NGOs receive grants from APAC Sustainability Seed Fund

Two Filipino NGOs have been named as recipients of grants from the APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0, which provides funding for local sustainability-focused organizations and initiatives in the region in the face of climate change and worsening natural disasters.

The APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0 is supported by Google.org and the Asian Development Bank. The Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) and the University of the Philippines Public Administration Research and Extension Services Foundation (UPPAF), Inc. are the only organizations from the Philippines receiving a part of the USD5 million allocated for the fund. The two organizations are also among those that are supported by AI technology.

ASSIST helps local communities and organizations in the Philippines gain the skills they need to create more sustainable solutions all around, whether it entails technical training or learning about disaster response.

“By leveraging the Sustainability Seed Fund, we plan to scale up through three pathways: geographic expansion into neighboring ASEAN countries, scope expansion by updating and broadening the green skills curriculum, and technological expansion by incorporating advanced delivery methods like VR, AR, and AI technologies,” said Francis Macatulad, ASSIST executive director.

Meanwhile, the UPPAF aims to improve transportation in developing countries as a whole by addressing fossil fuel dependence and poor energy efficiency in public transport operations.

“With this generous funding, we aim to revolutionize paratransit systems in developing countries by addressing fossil fuel dependence, poor energy efficiency in public transport operations and the need for inclusive and just transition,” said Dr. Noriel Christopher Tiglao, professor and project leader at UPPAF.

The APAC Sustainability Seed Fund is now in its second year of supporting researchers and social investors who are using AI and cloud technologies to build their sustainability solutions. Recent advances in artificial intelligence can help with mitigation and adaptation efforts, contributing to a more sustainable future for people across the Asia-Pacific region.

2024 Radical Challenge PH gets the green light with partners SEAOIL and BPI

The countdown begins for the third season of the country’s fastest race series with the SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines set to return to the tracks this September. And along with the expansion to two race categories is new event partner BPI.

Fueled by race-engineered SEAOIL Extreme-97 fuel with STP additives, the condensed 2024 calendar kicks off at the  Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) next month. The 3.500 km track provided plenty of action last year with its flowing, high-speed corners allowing for close racing, which the series hopes to repeat during the curtain raiser. It then moves to the  Clark International Speedway (CIS) for the title decider in October.

As before, each round follows a three-day format that consists of Free Practice on Friday, Qualifying, and Race 1 on Saturday, and finally Race 2 and 3 on Sunday. Sprint races are 30 minutes in length from start to finish.

2024 SEAOIL Radical Challenge powered by BPI 2024 Calendar

    • Round 1 | September 20-22 (Batangas Racing Circuit)
    • Round 2 | October 11-13 (Clark International Speedway)

SEAOIL renews its support for 2024 as the championships’ title partner and official fuel supplier with SEAOIL Extreme 97  Octane as the approved fuel, guaranteeing maximum performance.

“We are thrilled that the 2024 SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines is back. For the third year running, we’re teaming up with Radical Philippines to deliver heart-pounding action on the track. Together with our new sponsor for this season — BPI, we’re excited to welcome both returning racers and fresh talent to participate in the fastest race series in the country,”  shared Edward Cruz, SEAOIL Philippines Inc. head of B2C Segment Marketing.

“Just like last year, we’re powering each team with our top-tier SEAOIL Extreme 97 premium gasoline, designed to deliver maximum performance. This high-octane fuel is available at over 830 SEAOIL stations nationwide, so every Filipino motorist can experience the thrill of racing-grade power. Join us at BRC in September as we witness the adrenaline-pumping action unfold. Let’s make this season the most thrilling one yet.”

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), spearheaded by its Agency Banking arm, is also joining the excitement of the upcoming season of SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines. Seen at the forefront of forging strategic partnerships with key players in the retail sector, the fresh partnership with Radical Motorsports Philippines marks a significant step forward in the bank’s efforts to connect with a broader audience and enhance its brand visibility through the high-octane world of racing.

“We are thrilled to tie up for this season with Radical Motorsports Philippines and SEAOIL, a collaborative BPI partner store,” said Rally Jereza, head of BPI Agency Banking. “As the official bank partner of Radical Challenge Philippines, we continue to expand our network and engage with customers in new and exciting ways, allowing us to reach new audiences and  showcase our commitment to making financial services more accessible to every Filipino, in every community – including  the energetic community of racing.”

New for 2024 is the addition of the SR3 Challenge Cup. Quicker than the Radical SR1s, the SR3 features a similar carbon steel space frame chassis covered with a high downforce, lightweight fiberglass body. What makes it different is the RPE  1500cc four-cylinder racing engine that puts out 232 bhp – 50 bhp more than the already-fast SR1. Like its smaller brother,  the SR3 also puts power to the ground via the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.

The SR1 Challenge Cup and SR3 Challenge Cup share the same grid in 2024, paving the way for an even more adrenaline-filled championship. Notable entries are 2-time AAP Driver of the Year Miguel Quiñones, Thailand Super Series (TSS) driver  Jun Caceres, and Portuguese driver Andre Rodrigues.

Emirates doubles partnership connectivity in a year, opening opportunities for travelers to reach nearly 1,700 global cities beyond its network

In the past year, Emirates has doubled the number of cities it offers beyond its own network, unlocking nearly 1,700 additional cities beyond its own global network. This has enabled an average of over 61,000 passengers to seamlessly connect on the shared networks of Emirates and its partners every week.

By forging new partnerships and deepening existing ones across the transport ecosystem, the airline is delivering an array of additional travel choices alongside 31 codeshares, 118 interline, and 13 rail and helicopter services partners. Having 162 partners in over 100 countries means an expanded network reach with more and better connections for travelers, seamless single ticket itineraries, enhanced baggage transfers, frequent flyer benefits, lounge access, and other advantages to ensure a smooth travel experience at every touchpoint.

For customers of partner airlines flying on Emirates, popular destinations are even closer through Emirates’ robust network over 140 destinations and frictionless connectivity offered at DXB, complemented by industry leading experiences on the ground and in the skies, all easily within reach.

In the last year, Emirates launched 16 new partnerships which include codeshares with Avianca and Batik Air Malaysia and the airline also finalized and implemented interline arrangements with KAM Air, Sri Lankan Airlines, Condor, Flynas, Viva Aerobus, Sun Express, Maldivian, Siberia Airlines and Kenya Airways.

From plane to train, Emirates customers are now one ticket away from fast connections to cities across Europe through codeshare partnerships with Trenitalia, Spanish Rail Renfe, Austrian Rail OBB and Swedish Rail SJ. The airline was also the first full-service carrier to enter an innovative interline partnership with BLADE, an urban air-mobility company to provide Emirates customers with helicopter flights between Nice and Monaco on a single ticket.

In the last year, we’ve doubled down on our strategy of deepening our global presence and expanding our footprint across six continents by forging new partnerships with like-minded airlines, rail partners and air mobility operators to provide a huge choice of onwards destinations, connectivity options and seamless ‘last mile’ access for travelers like never before. While organic growth will always at the heart of our plans, we’ll continue to leverage the strength of our partners’ complementary networks as part of our commitment to help our customers reach every corner of the globe in the easiest way possible. World-class connectivity keeps economies strong and resilient, and our partnership growth ambitions align with Dubai’s D33 strategy to make our home and hub the most connected city in the world, attracting business, tourism, and investment from all over the globe,” said Emirates Airline Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim.

Over the years, Emirates’ many partnerships have paved the way for the airline to form robust networks that not only connect customers to unique points but also provide the advantages of schedule optimization, seamless connectivity at DXB with access to Terminal 3, as well as reciprocal loyalty benefits.

Its cornerstone partnership with flydubai is an exceptional example of how cooperation yields smoother journeys and more customer benefits. Today, customers have access to over 230 destinations across 100 countries, with 275 codeshare flights to choose from on an average day. Emirates customers can book flights to over 90 unique flydubai destinations and flydubai customers can choose from over 100 Emirates destinations. 2024 DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair concludes with record-breaking success, championing sustainability and local innovation

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) successfully wrapped up its 2024 DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair (NTF), leaving a lasting impression of the nation’s dedication to sustainability, innovation, and the promotion of high-quality Filipino products. Held at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City from August 21 to 25, the event, themed “Go Green! Go Local!” drew in thousands of visitors and generated impressive sales for participating micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Organized by the DTI through the Bureau of Market Development, Promotions and OTOP (BMDPO), this year’s NTF brought together over 270 exhibitors from across the regions, showcasing a diverse range of artisanal and non-food products crafted from sustainable raw materials such as bamboo, natural fibers, and native grass. In addition, the fair featured unique food items, Halal products, coconut-based innovations, novelty items, holiday decor, and home furnishings, providing a comprehensive showcase of Filipino craftsmanship and ingenuity.

A major draw of the event were the special pavilions that featured curated selections of sustainable and innovative products. These included:

Additionally, the Innovation and Services Cluster provided an information hub for both the MSMEs and visitors, offering free consultations by government agencies and private sector partners.

    Key Accomplishments

    • Record-Breaking Sales and Attendance: The 2024 NTF was not just a showcase of Filipino creativity but also a resounding success in terms of sales and attendance. Attracting almost 28,000 visitors, the fair generated an impressive Php72.377-million in cash sales, booked orders, and orders under negotiation for participating MSMEs, demonstrating strong consumer interest in locally-made, sustainable products.
    • Business Matching and Networking: The event facilitated numerous business matching and networking opportunities, further broadening the market reach and collaboration potential for local entrepreneurs. This fostered an environment conducive to growth and expansion for MSMEs.
    • Promotion of Sustainability and Innovation: The fair successfully highlighted the Philippines’ commitment to sustainability and innovation, showcasing products made from eco-friendly materials and featuring cutting-edge technologies. This emphasis on sustainable practices underscores the country’s dedication to responsible and ethical business practices.
    • Empowerment of MSMEs: By providing a platform for MSMEs to showcase their products and connect with potential buyers and partners, the NTF played a crucial role in empowering local entrepreneurs. The event offered valuable opportunities for business growth and development, contributing to the overall economic progress of the country.

DTI Acting Secretary Cristina A. Roque expressed her gratitude to all participants, exhibitors, and partners, underscoring the fair’s significant contribution to the growth and development of MSMEs in the Philippines. “Let this fair be a reminder that together, we can do great things. Together, we can create a future where sustainability and prosperity go hand in hand, and where Filipino products are celebrated not just here, but around the world,” she stated.

    DTI

Further, Roque reiterated the Bagong Pilipinas development agenda for MSMEs: “The government, the private sector, and the entire nation stand with you. We are committed to providing you with the support, resources, and opportunities you need to thrive.”

As the 2024 NTF closed, the theme “Go Green! Go Local!” resonated strongly, leaving attendees inspired by the rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit that characterize Filipino craftsmanship. The DTI looks forward to building on this success in future events, continuing its unwavering support for the growth and prosperity of Filipino businesses.

Tips and tricks to get the most from Google Gemini

Google’s Gemini has a lot of benefits for you, no matter who you are and what you need. It can help organize your work and your life, or jumpstart the creative process for any project you’re working on.

Gemini can supercharge your creativity and productivity, parse large amounts of data and information, and even find new ideas that may not have come to you as easily. Letting it do the work can free up a lot of brainpower on your end, allowing you to work with it to create the best possible work you can do every time. This can happen as long as you use strong, clear, and specific prompts that definitively tell Gemini how to help you.

    Gemini

Next time you’re using Gemini to brainstorm and come up with new ideas, try the following:

Define the desired role or persona for the AI. This ensures that Gemini has a thorough understanding of your requirements and can offer the most effective support. For example, if you need help planning a social media campaign, you could start by saying “Act as a social media manager”. Then, describe the campaign goals and any specific platforms or content formats you have in mind. This will allow Gemini to generate ideas and suggestions that are tailored to your needs and objectives.

Talk to it like you would a friend or coworker. Some people may not know the basic way of speaking to Gemini. Ask it, for example, to “write an initial marketing plan” for one of your upcoming campaigns instead of just saying “marketing plan” in your prompt. Avoid using acronyms or jargons that Gemini might not immediately understand.

Be really specific with it. If you have all the information you need, you have to give it to Gemini to get the most thorough output possible. If you’re coming up with creative output, be sure to give it a quick background of your company or brand (or yourself), who the audience is, and what you want to achieve.

Avoid making things too complicated. When you ask Gemini for something, be sure to make it simple. Imagine that you’re asking someone else, or you’re being asked — you wouldn’t want to get instructions that you have to decipher to get started on. Be clear and concise.

If you need to ask Gemini for follow-ups, make it a conversation. It’s inevitable that Gemini won’t always give you the work you were really looking for. When you need something more from it, again, it helps to talk to it naturally. If a task is too complicated, you can break it down further into smaller and simpler tasks. Don’t worry – it can keep up.

Don’t let valuable insights slip away! Pin important conversations with Gemini to keep them easily accessible. Whether you need to reference past suggestions, revisit key decisions, or simply maintain continuity, pinning ensures your most valuable chats are just a click away.

Armed with these new insights, your next session with Gemini will definitely be better. Try these tips out now at https://gemini.google.com/app.
