    • VRAM: 4 GB GDDR5
    • Memory Speed: 7 Gbps
    • Memory Bus: 128-bit
    • Memory Bandwidth: 112 GB/s
    • Power Requirement: 75 W
    • Output: DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, dual-link DVI

Nvidia’s Pascal-strutting wallet-friendly graphics cards have finally launched, allowing gamers on a budget the chance to experience the latest architecture’s prowess without spending more than they need to. The 1050 and 1050 Ti are the successors to the 750 and 750 Ti graphics cards, and they’re both looking to punch above their price range.

Let’s talk about the Nvidia GTX 1050 first. The cheaper and weaker of the two cards, the 1050 sports 640 CUDA cores clocked at a base 1354 MHz and a boost 1455 MHz. It has 2 GB of GDDR5 buffer with a 128-bit wide memory bus and an effective bandwidth of 112 GB/s. Miniscule at only 5.7 x 4.38 inches, it sips only 75 W of power through its PCIe connection. It will retail for USD 109 or around PHP 5,242 directly converted.

Meanwhile, the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti struts beefier specs, coming in with 768 CUDA cores clocked at a base and boost of 1290 and 1392 MHz. It also has a larger 4 GB GDDR5 video buffer, but with the same speed, bus, and bandwidth as its brother. Likewise, it measures 5.7 x 4.38 inches and draws all of its 75 W power requirement through the PCIe port. This one is tagged at USD 139 or PHP 6,684 directly converted.

Do note that Nvidia won’t be making reference versions of this card, so more likely than not, the specs above will change depending on the tastes of the brand’s add-in board partners. As such, we should expect higher factory overclocks and supplementary power requirements for the 1050 and 1050 Ti.

Some of the cards’ expected versions include the: Asus GTX 1050 (Ti) Mini; EVGA GTX 1050 (Ti) SuperClocked; Galax GTX 1050 (Ti); Gigabyte GTX 1050 (Ti); Colorful iGame GTX 1050 (Ti); Inno3D GTX 1050 (Ti) Compact; MSI GeForce GTX 1050 (Ti); Palit GeForce GTX 1050 (Ti); and Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 (Ti) Mini.

Suffice it to say, either of the cards should be on your Christmas wish list if you’re planning on upgrading your pre-built rig or building an affordable one for yourself during the holidays.

Petron marks another first; launches Euro 5 fuel in the Philippines

    0

After successfully launching a full range of locally-produced Euro 4 fuels almost a year ago, the country’s leading oil company Petron Corporation marked another breakthrough in fuels technology with the introduction of the Blaze 100 Euro 5 – the first Euro 5 standard fuel in the country.

Blaze 100 Euro 5 contains has significantly less sulfur, 10 ppm (parts per million) compared to other Euro 4 fuels (50 ppm). It is 500% cleaner than standard Euro 4 fuels. It also has less benzene (less than 1% of volume) – a known carcinogen – compared to the Philippine standard which allows up to 2% by volume in gasoline. It is now available nationwide.

High sulfur levels in fuel, when combined with water vapor, can harm the environment and cause corrosive wear on valve guides and cylinder liners, leading to premature engine failure.

With significantly low sulfur content and advanced additives technology, the high-performance Blaze 100 Euro 5 delivers the following benefits:

    • Optimal power and acceleration due to extremely high octane and performance additives;
    • Exceptional engine cleanliness because of its high quality base fuel and fully synthetic detergent additive;
    • Better fuel economy due to its friction modifier and combustion improver additives; and
    • Lower emissions and longer catalytic converter life.

While Blaze 100 Euro 5 is recommended for high-end, high-performance vehicles, other vehicles will get the same power and improved fuel economy because of its special formulation.

“Petron is proud to introduce another revolutionary fuel specially formulated for Philippine driving conditions,” Petron President and CEO Ramon S. Ang said. “With the highest octane rating but the lowest sulfur content, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 5 is the best gasoline in the market by far in terms of power, efficiency, and reduced emissions.

“We will continue to innovate and lead in fuels technology so we can put more savings in our customers’ pockets while improving air quality across the nation,” Mr. Ang added.

Petron’s Blaze 100 Euro 5 was “road-tested” recently as the official fuel of the Philippine Leg of the 2016 Formula 4 South East Asia (F4/SEA) Championship at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Launched back in late 2010, Petron’s Blaze 100 Euro 5 is the first and only gasoline in the country with a Research Octane Number (RON) of 100. With 100 octane, it has exceptional resistance to “engine knocking” that results in uneven fuel burn, greater fuel consumption, and even engine damage.

Globe myLifestyle Plan Introduces Data Rollover and Data Sharing

    0

Globe Postpaid recently introduced its newest customer service-centric feature that allows subscribers to roll over unused mobile data or share it with other users or devices.

A first in the Philippines, the amped up Globe myLifestyle plans with Data Rollover allows unused MBs to be carried over to the next month. With this, the validity of unused GoSURF MBs are extended for another month. As an example, if you used 2 GB of your 3 GB data allowance this month, the 1 GB left-over will be added to the following month’s data allocation.

The service is available for all Globe myLifestyle plan customers free of charge. All one has to do is to register once to any GoSURF with Rollover variant, and the subscriber can begin enjoying the Rollover feature monthly. Rolled over data is consumed first before the current month’s actual allocation.

Data Sharing, on the other hand, allows sharing of one data plan among family members or across a user’s various devices–all within one postpaid account. Sharing can be done to either new lines or existing myLifestyle Plans within the same account, for a minimum charge of PHP 100 Share Fee per share per month.

To avail of either of the latest features, customers should enroll to GoSURF Share & Rollover by calling 730-1000 or visiting the nearest Globe store to make the changes in the account.

To know more about GoSURF Share & Rollover, visit www.globe.com.ph/postpaid/rollover-and-share.

AAA and Petron partner up for F4 SEA race event in Clark

    0

All is set for the Formula 4 Southeast Asia (F4 SEA) racing event happening at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga this weekend from October 15 to 16.

The six races will mark the first ever Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)-certified racing event in the country with the F4 discipline being the link between kart-racing and F3.

“Formula 4 creates a synergy between the FIA and the training of the talent of tomorrow, in a championship which matches control of costs with the highest levels of engineering safety,” said federation president Jean Todt.

The F4 SEA is a single-make championship with all vehicles used by the drivers following the same specifications. Each race car will carry a homologated Renault F4R four-cylinder engine with a two-liter naturally aspirated displacement in an F4 Mygale carbon monocoque chassis which is FIA F3 crash test certified.1

The F4 SEA also upholds an open data system which makes all vehicle and race data available which further levels the playing field and pushing drivers and race teams to improve through driving and not other enhancements.

The speedway will be a challenging track for the young drivers with its 18, mostly left-handed turns.

“Compared to the previous race, I think this track is really tricky because you have so many tricky corners, you have to be very precise. Otherwise, the minute you overdo, you’re just gonna spin, the minute you do less, you’re not fast. So you have to be on the edge of this track to be the best,” said 18-year-old Akash Gowda, one of the drivers participating at the event.

    F4 driver Akash Gowda
    F4 driver Akash Gowda

The top seven drivers for the Formula 4 SEA series of races will earn FIA super license points which will contribute to their 40-point requirement to secure a super license.

“What the FIA has done was not to just create a path to the F1, but to create a path to a professional career in motor sport,” said Peter Thompson, Chairman and CEO of AAA, and Founder and President of Meritus.GP, the exclusive race engineering services provider for F4 SEA.

    Official fuel partner

Petron has partnered with Asian Autosport Action (AAA), the licensed promoter of FIA Formula 4 SEA, as the official fuel-provider for the whole event.

The race cars will use the new Blaze 100 Euro 5 fuel which was officially rolled out yesterday, meeting the Euro 5 emission standards which significantly lessens Nitrous Oxide, Benzene and Sulfur levels in its tailpipe emissions.

The title is also part of Nvidia’s Indie Spotlight Program. Introduced last August, the Nvidia Indie Spotlight Program is the brand’s way of supporting small and independent game developers.

GeForce Experience allows PC gamers to keep their graphics card drivers up to date, optimize their in-game settings, and capture, stream, and share their gameplay video, all in one easy to use app.
