With this contest, we want to spark the curiosity of as many people as possible, and show how many different ways there are to get into the cybersecurity industry. We want to demonstrate that security is fascinating – because the world needs more highly skilled people in IT security,”Naraine added.

    Restaurant Review: Genki Sushi

    0

    13518211_1219156938117765_1655432692_o

Waiting in line, pondering what food you will order, then second-guessing yourself while talking to the cashier is not a problem anymore if you’re the shy type. Introverts can rejoice, as automated food ordering is now available in the Philippines, and it’s fun, fresh and fast.

Today, we take a look at Genki Sushi located in Bonifacio Global City.

Fighting for attention in the highly competitive Japanese resto market in Manila, Genki Sushi was franchised by the Mother Spice Food Corporation from Japan, and is also located in USA and Singapore. The Bonifacio Stop Over branch located at Bonifacio Global City is the first branch in the country, though they do plan to construct two more branches around the metro within the year. Their logo, a boy with a mad face, has a story of its own. It came to life when the creator of Genki Sushi saw a boy in a restaurant, looking very upset at the experience. From there, the whole Genki Sushi concept was built. Kids will enjoy Genki Sushi because of its unique concept of a “bullet train” delivering your food on its own set of tracks. The ordering process is enjoyable too. Tablets are available at each table and serve to both show you what’s on the menu, and take your order. With just one click and a short wait, your food will just slide out and stop in front of you, and yes it’s as fun as it sounds. What differentiates Genki Sushi from other restaurants that also offer a similar experience is that Genki Sushi’s food is made to order. This is assures the customer that the food they’re having was freshly prepared. If you’re excited to try Genki out, you might want to get there early, as the lines do get long quickly.

    13523768_1219157494784376_1869770535_o13509652_1219157421451050_909172370_o

Selling point: Trains that deliver your food!

Experience: We visited Genki Sushi at Bonifacio Global City. Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll notice its simple interior, and plain color scheme that are pleasing to the eyes. Do not be fooled by the simplicity of this establishment because although it may seem simple, their food definitely lived up to the hype. The staff were very accommodating. We were immediately served their bestsellers. And boy, they sure know how to treat reviewers like me (wink).

First, we were served different kinds of sushi: egg pollock roll, crab salad, Norwegian fresh salmon, fresh tuna, smoked salmon, seared salmon with black pepper, their own Genki roll, and horse mackerel.

    sushi 2

I am a big fan of Japanese food and I’ve tried my fair share of restaurants already, but this is my first time to try seared salmon with black pepper sushi, and I tell you it is superb! As with their salmon, the tuna melts in your mouth and it is just heavenly. Both were fresh and left no doubt as to their quality, though you might want to go easy on the horse mackerel sushi since it has a strong flavor. Serving sizes aren’t the largest, but each one is heavy, and it won’t take a whole lot to leave you satisfied.

    oyako 2shrimp 1genki

Next, for our main course, we were offered grilled salmon belly, shrimp kakiage, chirashi don and oyako don. The grilled salmon belly was very tasty. It’s buttery soft and just as flavorful. I had high hopes for the oyako don, as it is one of my favorite dishes, and it didn’t disappoint. The chicken fillet was fried but still crispy even though it is doused in special sauce that makes the dish irresistibly delicious. The chirashi don is like the trophy of the sea since it has shrimp, tuna, salmon, octopus, pollock roe and crabsticks. Every bite was as fresh as the last.

To cap of the night, matcha-inspired desserts were served. I am so happy since I really love the distinct taste of matcha. It was no surprise that their matcha ice cream and matcha cheesecake are to die for. The bitterness of the matcha complements the sour and sweet taste of the cheesecake. Lastly, their  rare Japanese cheesecake is really unique and delicious since it is directly imported from Japan.

    matcha 1

I would definitely bring my child here once she is big enough to enjoy the whole concept of this restaurant. Anyone who wants to satisfy their sushi fix should definitely visit this Japanese haven. It will not disappoint.

Writer’s tip: Order everything!!! You won’t regret it.

    Suzuki celebrates Gixxer Day

Suzuki Philippines brought over 200 Gixxer riders to the Marikina River Park to celebrate the first ever Suzuki Gixxer Day. Established in partnership with the Gixxer-oriented Road Warriors Club and the Marikina City government, Suzuki held various activities for the riders, including a safety riding seminar, free service, spare parts selling, and other fun surprises. The Thunder Riders Organization of the Philippines (TROOP), one of the brand’s most reputable clubs, also served as the event’s marshals.

Formally opening the occasion, Suzuki president Hiroshi Suzuki dropped by to personally greet the riders and deliver an inspiring speech wherein he reiterated the importance of safety for Suzuki Philippines. He said “Safety riding has always been a priority of Suzuki Philippines’ business. It is in the core of our operations to ensure that more than the exhilarating ride that our motorcycles promise, our riders should also get to their destinations safe and sound.”

It was a one stop shop for all the Gixxer riders as Suzuki presented simultaneous activities for everyone. A free motorcycle check-up and tune-up were offered and shops selling Suzuki Genuine Parts including Suzuki Genuine Oils were put up.

While their Gixxers were being inspected, the riders were given a Safety Riding Clinic by the Suzuki Safety Riding Authority composed of  Noel Villapando, Sherwin Florendo, and Rey Abat. The afternoon session tested the skills of the riders as well as their mastery over the Gixxer. It was made even more challenging as they had to do the trials under the rain.

If you are a Gixxer rider and would like to join the Road Warriors Club or simply an enthusiast who loves motorcycles, you can visit facebook.com/SuzukiMotorcyclePhilippines or visit suzuki.com.ph to mingle with your fellow riders.

Samsung skips Note 6; launches Galaxy Note 7

Forget the Note 6 and say hello to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the latest and most powerful phablet from the Korean brand. Besides boasting the same premium build, burly specs, and intuitive features consumers have come to expect from Samsung’s flagship line, the newest Note 7 also comes with more tricks under the hood, including IP68 certification for both the body and S Pen; robust security measures; and HDR playback support, among others.

It struts the same Samsung Exynos 8890 processor found on the Samsung Galaxy S7, but this time clocked at a slower 2.3 GHz on the fastest cores versus the latter’s 2.6 GHz speed. Memory buffer also stays the same at 4 GB, but internal storage got a significant bump to 64 GB expandable with a microSD. The camera arrays at the front and back are likewise similar at 5 MP and 12 MP Dual Pixel, respectively. Powering these innards is a 3500 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast wireless charging. The whole build is IP68 certified, meaning it can be submerged underwater up to five feet for up to 30 minutes.

As with most phones under the Galaxy Note lineup, the Note 7 is much bigger than its S7 counterpart. It arrives with a 5.7 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display overlaid with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The left and right edges of the screen are curved in order to make its glass and aluminum build easier to handle, on top of providing intuitive edge-swipe controls. As a whole, the screen is able to output high dynamic range videos with richer colors and deeper blacks. Combined with the Samsung Galaxy VR, users can get more immersed in their multimedia content.

A Note smartphone wouldn’t be complete without the S Pen, and it’s been improved with a finer 0.7 mm thin tip and more sensitive pressure detection.

Finally, the Note 7’s security features boast not only a fingerprint scanner, but also a new iris scanning technology which Samsung is claiming to be 100x more reliable than the fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is set to hit shelves on August 20 with a price tag of PHP 39,990 bundled with a free Gear VR for pre-orders.

ePLDT offers free vulnerability assessment to PH Businesses

    0

Furthering its aim of helping Philippine businesses implement reliable cybersecurity measures, ePLDT recently introduced the ePLDT Managed Security Solutions in its product roster.

ePLDT Managed Security Solutions is a suite of security services that cover the devices, systems, processes, and expertise needed to protect vital IT infrastructure from most security risks, evolving threats, and malicious software attacks.

“Many businesses find security overly complicated and thereby put it off to deal with later when a breach has occurred. Our goal is to simplify it for them, giving more incentives to make security a priority to minimize the cost of these breaches. Having protective measures is not enough— enterprises need to check for vulnerabilities and respond accordingly,” said Bernice Pineda, Business Development Manager for PLDT Disruptive Business Group.

Following the launch, ePLDT is offering free vulnerability assessment for a limited time, providing critical insight into specific details of a company’s IT system such as bandwidth usage, infected computers, and  possible security gaps within the network. A part of the free assessment will be the installation of a tool which can automatically analyze network traffic. This assessment is open for enterprises within Metro Manila and will be free for those who apply until August 31, 2016.

“The vulnerability assessment, which we are currently offering free of charge, will help enterprises understand cybersecurity in greater depth. We will help them test their current security and recommend the appropriate adjustments tailored for their needs,” said Francis Arjonillo, Head of PLDT Business Development for Enterprise Cloud and Managed Security. “In matters of security, being proactive is a must. One shouldn’t sit around and wait for a breach before taking action.”

Those who are interested in the free vulnerability assessment and the ePLDT Managed Security solutions may visit www.epldt.com/solutions/managed-security to sign up or view more details.

Latest Nexus 2016 rumored to be released soon

Another year, another vanilla Android smartphone from Google and one of its partner brands. If the most recent Nexus 6P was borne from a collaboration with Huawei, the upcoming Nexus 2016 will be made by the brand that started it all: HTC.

Specifically, HTC will be releasing two Nexus phones with the code names Sailfish and Marlin, or S1 and M1, respectively. The Nexus M1 will be the more powerful out of the two, arriving with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, a minimum 4 GB of RAM, 12 MP rear and 8 MP front cameras, up to 128 GB of internal storage, 3450 mAh battery, and a USB-C port. It will also sport a 5.5 inch QHD AMOLED display, an all-aluminum body, and a back-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Meanwhile, the Nexus S1 is equipped with more modest but still powerful innards. It’s smaller body will boast a 5 inch 1080p AMOLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 2770 mAh battery, fingerprint scanner, and USB-C. To further drive costs down, its body will be mainly plastic with a metal border.

Both phones will arrive with the newest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system out of the box. Nougat is rumored to launch on August 5, and the Nexus smartphones should launch shortly after. With information still sparse, the specs above should still change pending official reveal.
