Few automotive technologies are poised to improve the landscape of mobility as electrification. Electric and hybrid vehicles continue to increase their market share globally as people start to appreciate the value these new drivetrains bring to the market. Ever the innovator, Honda offers an experience that’s a cut above the conventional hybrid experience.
The All-New Honda CR-V RS e:HEV, with the brand’s first-ever full-hybrid system, showcases many of Honda’s industry-leading innovations. This latest model blends safety, comfort, and unparalleled convenience with a hybrid drivetrain that sets new standards in automotive engineering.
Honda SENSING: Safety for everyone
One of the highlight features on all the variants of the All-new Honda CR-V, including the hybrid RS e:HEV, is Honda SENSING technology.
Honda SENSING is actually a suite of functions that work together towards Honda’s global safety concept of “safety for everyone,” and a collision-free society where all road users can get to their destinations safely, and without incident.
The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is one of the more impressive features within Honda’s SENSING technology. CMBS takes information from the camera and radar to detect possible collisions. Should one be detected, the system will issue a visual and audible warning. If a collision remains imminent, the vehicle assists the driver by applying the brakes appropriately. This feature not only warns the driver, but actively works to prevent or minimize impact.
Next up, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF) uses a combination of a front-facing camera and radar to perceive the vehicle in front, as well as your distance to it. Unlike traditional cruise control that simply maintains a given speed, this system accelerates and brakes to keep the same distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead, greatly reducing fatigue on long stretches of faster-moving traffic.
Low-Speed Follow on the other hand is active in stop-and-go traffic, assisting the driver by taking on some of the processing load that happens in slow-moving traffic like what one would normally encounter in the city.
The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) helps the vehicle maintain its position in the middle of the lane when on the highway. Using the information from the front-facing camera, the system detects when the vehicle moves outside of the optimal position in the middle of the lane, alerts the driver, and gently assists in bringing the vehicle back into the center of the lane.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) work hand-in-hand by taking note of lane boundaries, and give the driver visual and tactile warnings to alert them that they are approaching the edge of the lane, or are about to cross into the unpaved section of the road. The system also gently corrects the steering in order to direct the vehicle back into the proper lane position.
Auto High Beam optimizes visibility by activating the high beams when the system detects that there are no oncoming vehicles, and lowers deactivates the high beams appropriately to avoid dazzling other road users. The RS e:HEV variant of the CR-V also has the Adaptive Driving Beam: an intelligent LED lighting system that delivers excellent visibility without blinding the vehicles in front.
Finally, Lead Car Departure Notification alerts the driver once the car in front of them has started to move from a standstill.
Honda CONNECT: The future of automotive connectivity
Honda CONNECT takes in-car connected services to new heights, offering features that set the All-New Honda CR-V apart from the rest in its class. Honda CONNECT works in conjunction with the user’s phone through a connected app to add safety, security, and convenience to the driving experience.
Safety features included in the Honda CONNECT suite include Automatic Collision Detection that autonomously detects when a collision occurs, and immediately calls for help for a timely response to the emergency. Security Alarm Detection sends an alert to the user’s smartphone should the vehicle’s alarm be triggered, and Speed Alert sends notifications to the user’s phone when the vehicle reaches certain speeds.
Honda CONNECT also delivers new security features. Find My Car pins your vehicle’s location on a map on your smartphone so you can avoid losing your car in a large parking lot, or new neighborhood. Geofencing sends an alert should the vehicle stray outside a set area, and Emergency Calls gives the user fast access to emergency contacts within the Honda CONNECT app.
Finally, Honda CONNECT gives features that make owning any variant of the All-New Honda CR-V much more convenient. Car Status doubles as both a system to keep the user informed of any concerns that need to be addressed, and provides diagnostic support when needed. Remote Vehicle Controls gives the app the ability to start or stop the vehicle remotely, access to climate control, remote lock control, and remote access to the lights.
This system also gives service reminders, and can even assist with booking an appointment with an official Honda service center. You even get access to social networking sites to share your drives with your friends and followers, and get Honda-specific news and alerts. Select Honda CONNECT features are also available in other Honda vehicles.
The Honda CR-V RS e:HEV comes with a free three-year subscription to the Honda CONNECT service.
The perfect blend of performance and fuel efficiency
At the heart of the All-New Honda CR-V RS e:HEV is the remarkable full-hybrid drivetrain that delivers the best of both ICE and electric drivetrains.
The All-New Honda CR-V has three dive modes depending on driving needs. From a stop and when in city driving conditions, the vehicle runs on electric power, for instant torque, and zero fuel consumption. This electric system also kicks in during deceleration to recharge the batteries, and help slow down.
When greater acceleration is required, as well as in high-speed cruising, the 2.0-Liter Direct Injection Turbo i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine kicks in, with an impressive 148PS of power, and 183Nm of torque, and recharging the power cells as needed. This combination of electric and internal combustion allows the e:HEV variant of the Honda CR-V to cover up to an amazing 29.4km per liter of fuel. The two systems work in perfect unison, giving the driver and passengers a smooth, quiet, seamless ride, regardless of the driving conditions.
The All-New Honda CR-V e:HEV also comes with different driving modes to suit different driving scenarios allowing the driver to tailor the driving experience to best suit the conditions they face.
Standing behind their engineering is Honda’s 8-year or 200,000 km battery warranty for added peace of mind and hassle-free ownership.
The All-New Honda CR-V received five stars in the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program, thanks both to the Honda Sensing features, and excellent performance in occupant protection during impacts.
Sporty and comfortable interior
The interior of the All-New Honda CR-V reflects the same elegance of the exterior. A larger cabin, with repositioned windows increase the feeling of space and make even longer journeys comfortable. Extremely roomy two-row seating and up to 1064 liters of cargo space mean plenty of room for the whole family, plus all the gear and luggage space you’ll need to make all your trips memorable.
A huge 9-inch touch screen puts entertainment functions front and center, and Bluetooth call, and audio streaming ensure you’re always connected even on the go. Paired with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB input, and a stellar Bose 12-speaker audio system with active noise control, the CR-V has all your entertainment needs covered.
The driver also has a huge 10.2-inch full digital instrument cluster to stay on top of all the pertinent driving information in a clear and easy-to-see layout.
Power adjustable seats with memory seat function for the driver and front passenger, and two-zone climate controls ensure all-day comfort for even the longest road trips. There’s even a new wireless charger to ensure that all your devices can stay topped up as you make your way to your destination.
The Honda CR-V RS e:HEV variant also comes with the new Honda Smart Key Card entry system for keyless access, an impressive heads-up display for vehicle information at a quick glance, and gorgeous black leather seats with red stitching for a sporty, elegant look.
The All-New Honda CR-V RS e:HEV is more than just a vehicle—it’s an embodiment of Honda’s commitment to innovation, performance, and safety. As the Philippines and its neighbors face 21st-century challenges of climate change-worsened calamities, deadly viruses, and daily threats to peace and order, faster, smarter, and more accurate emergency response is a must.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through Secretary Benjamin Abalos and its National E911 Office led by Executive Director Francis are meeting the challenge head-on with a National Summit on Emergency Response last August 14, 2024, at the EDSA Shangri-La Plaza Manila.
Among the key issues tackled at the Summit is the need for the country to revitalize its emergency response system, which is at the core of providing public safety to citizens, Executive Director Fajardo said.
“We are in an age where problems and risks have become more complex and we have to respond faster, smarter, and more efficiently. We need to move with the times, recognize the role played by gadgets and modern communication platforms, and invest in modern tools and services that weren’t there before. Now and in the future, our goal is to serve our communities and look out for the safety of citizens so we need new solutions to be responsive and relevant,” Fajardo added.
The summit tackled the modern perils citizens face in the age of AI, data analytics, and automation and the importance of emergency management. Concerns about safety and survival in the light of disasters, cyberattacks, terrorism, daily incidents of crime, child abuse, violence against women and their children, accidents, thefts, and health emergencies were discussed.
The Summit also examined the International Disaster Response Network and how it can help with safety, security, and survival in the New Normal. It explained the roles web services such as Amazon and Google played in ensuring effective emergency response and emphasized telcos’ duty to provide uninterrupted communication during emergencies.
Executive Director Fajardo has facilitated an arrangement where the Philippine National Police can get a feel of harnessing next-generation, advanced 911 for its emergency response operations. It has requested NGA 911, the global innovator of emergency calling technology and leader in next-generation emergency communications worldwide, to allow the PNP to try out its state-of-the-art 911 call handling system that is used in the United States and Europe. It enhances emergency number services by creating a faster, more resilient system that allows digital information like voice, photos, videos, and text messages to flow seamlessly from the public through the 911 network and onto first responders. PLDT will ensure that there is an available flow of communication during emergencies.
“Byknowing and using the right tools and technologies, local governments can be better prepared and ready to respond to emergencies more efficiently. A fast, accurate, and resilient emergency response system will minimize disruptions in citizens’ lives and give Filipinos the peace of mind they deserve. Investing in advanced technologies is a must if we are to improve our emergency preparedness and make our responses faster and more effective,” Fajardo said.
The summit included government officials, representatives from the country’s emergency response agencies, and service providers.
The local emergency response landscape with cutting-edge technology in place and used on a wide scale was reimagined at the Summit.
Logitech has announced MeetUp 2, an AI-powered USB conference camera designed for bring-your-own device (BYOD) and PC-based setups in huddle and small meeting rooms. This next-generation camera is the modern evolution of the iconic Logitech MeetUp, the bestselling conference camera in Logitech history that has sold more than one million units.
“Instantly recognisable, MeetUp took video from the boardroom to the huddle space, making video collaboration achievable and affordable for everyone,” said Alistair Johnston, head of collaboration at Futuresource Consulting. Now, MeetUp 2 is poised to disrupt the market once again as the need for huddle room tech increases in companies embracing hybrid work models.
With the rise in huddle rooms comes the need for video conferencing tech that fits multiple scenarios, including those who prefer dedicated PC-based deployment or using their laptop in a BYOD setup. And because Logitech has been using AI-enhanced features in conference room devices for years to create experiences that focus on the human and deepen engagement among meeting colleagues (with no manual control needed), MeetUp 2 is now designed with those intelligent features.
“The quality of collaboration is becoming an increasingly critical consideration, given its impact on productivity and efficiency. Logitech MeetUp 2 elevates the discussions held in meeting and huddle rooms by harnessing the capabilities of AI through its RightSight 2 feature, which generates dynamic views that seamlessly integrate remote participants into virtual meetings,” said Sharon Seah, Country B2B Head at Logitech Southeast Asia. “Moreover, IT teams can remotely monitor and update MeetUp2 devices to continually enhance their capabilities.”
Intelligent Meeting Experiences
AI-driven video features of RightSight 2 create equitable experiences for remote participants by using intelligence to automatically focus and frame in-room participants – whether focusing on the active speaker, the group of participants, or each individual participant. For advanced audio clarity, RightSound 2 uses AI-based algorithms that balance voices and filter out unwanted noise, while reducing reverberation in rooms with echoes. MeetUp 2 works with popular video conferencing platforms people use every day such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet, enabling MeetUp 2 users to enjoy features like Zoom Rooms Smart Gallery, which creates individual feeds of in-room participants; and Microsoft Intelliframe, which automatically places participants in frames to make everyone equally visible.
Designed for Sustainability
Buyers of IT equipment are increasingly responsible for purchasing technology with a lower environmental impact. MeetUp 2 was developed using Design for Sustainability (DfS) principles, a framework that guides product teams toward lower-impact, more circular design solutions.
“We’re helping our enterprise customers better manage their carbon footprint,” said Prakash Arunkundrum, Chief Operating Officer at Logitech. “MeetUp 2 is the latest in our video conferencing portfolio to demonstrate our deep commitment to reducing environmental impact.”
MeetUp 2 replaces virgin plastic parts with post-consumer recycled plastic, lowering its carbon footprint and giving a second life to end-of-use plastic from old consumer electronics. The plastic parts in MeetUp 2 contain 62% recycled plastic, the highest percentage of similar products in the market today. By choosing recycled plastic vs virgin plastic, MeetUp 2’s design saves 15.5 tCO2e saving per 10,000 units*, allowing IT tech buyers to lower their company’s Scope 3 indirect emissions.
To encourage other brands to adopt DfS, Logitech openly shares its knowledge about how to integrate Next Life recycled plastic into their manufacturing process. Meetup 2 is also packaged in paper sourced from FSC™-certified forests and other controlled sources.
Better BYOD Experience
MeetUp 2, designed for up to six people in a small room, offers the flexibility of deploying in USB mode with an in-room computer device or in BYOD mode connected to a laptop.
In BYOD setups, users simply connect their laptops or mobile devices to the MeetUp 2 with the optional Logitech Active USB Cable to run video meetings from their platform of choice, while IT admins can monitor room status, deploy updates, and modify settings over ethernet or WiFi through Logitech Sync. When MeetUp 2 is not in a meeting, the display in the room can be used for digital signage, allowing custom content such as company logos or space usage instructions, through Logitech Sync and AppSpace.
Pricing and Availability
MeetUp 2 joins Logitech’s lineup of conference cameras built for all people in all spaces, ranging from ideation spaces to large conference rooms. The MSRP for MeetUp 2 is SGD 1,500 and is available globally through authorised distributors and on the Logitech website. In-country product availabilities for MeetUp 2 in Southeast Asia are as follows:

Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC), the premier digital-first, fully online college in the Philippines, together with Concentrix, a leading global provider of customer experience solutions and technology, are collaborating for an exciting Work & Study Program that aims to address the Filipino labor market’s problems on unemployment, improve quality of education and work-life balance most especially for working students, and produce more skilled professionals.
According to a report by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) released in February 2024, there are 1.60 million unemployed Filipinos as of December 2023. The talent shortage and high unemployment rates in the country are due to several factors such as poor education system, lack of decent job opportunities, and lack of relevant skills.
However, the IT-BPM Association of the Philippines states that by 2028, the tech industry hopes to create 2.5 million new jobs in the country. So far they are on track in hitting their goal of creating more jobs in the past 4 years.
With these new opportunities in the labor market, the Philippines needs to grow the talent pool of qualified professionals, and MMDC and Concentrix aim to do just that.
Work & Study Program to empower working students and produce highly skilled professionals
“Working students in the country have been underserved for years,” says Hazel Banas, Vice President for People Solutions at Concentrix. “The focus has been on basic education and traditional college models that we believe don’t serve the needs of our working students. We need more people in the workforce and the way to produce that, to contribute to the economy and the country’s growth, is to produce more professionals.”
MMDC and Concentrix will work together to provide part-time jobs and part-time college education programs to Filipinos who are ready to commit to a brighter future through its Work and Study Program. The program caters to those who are interested in upskilling and developing soft and hard skills that will support their growth and become more qualified professionals. It was designed to make sure that non-graduate workers will be able to work and earn enough income to be able to go back to school and complete their degrees.
Engr. Dennis Tablante, MMDC’s executive director, says, “MMDC is here to support working students who want to take up a career in IT and Business and set them up for success. We offer flexible schedules to cater to those who have more than enough on their plate but want to step up their careers and current skill sets. We have top industry leaders to guide our students to become highly equipped professionals who can contribute to the country’s economic growth.”
Tonichi Parekh, Concentrix’s vice president for client success, states that Concentrix is dedicated to help their current and future employees reach their goals for a brighter future together with MMDC. She says, “We are tech-led and human-empowered, so we decided to partner with MMDC so that we could also empower our employees, we call them game changers, so that they could also live up to their dream of finishing their school while they are working. It changes the dynamics a little bit when the employer offers to their employees that they can actually study and finish their college degrees.”
The Work & Study Program is open to incoming new employees of Concentrix who will enroll in relevant degree programs in MMDC. Qualified applicants are offered part-time jobs and given a 60-75% working time or 20-30 hours a week and 3-4 subjects per term at MMDC to allow them to manage their time effectively at work, school, and at home. Concentrix will also offer a Salary Deduction Program and offer to pay the matriculation fees per term to eligible part-time employees. The Work & Study Program also includes a load limit program, 3 to 4 units per term, and a mentorship program to help students succeed in their chosen program and career path.
Here are a few important details about the Work & Study program:
The pilot program will be available at Concentrix Ayala North Exchange, Makati and Nuvali, Sta. Rosa offices. The role available to interested applicants is Customer Service Advisor.
Interested applicants must apply in person and visit any of the 2 offices.
Applicants must pass the Concentrix hiring process and if hired are required to work from either the Ayala North Exchange, Makati and Nuvali, Sta. Rosa offices.
Start of employment is on October 1, 2024 and will be invited to enroll at MMDC.
MMDC and Concentrix will pave the way to provide opportunities to make commitments easy to balance, suitable for the lifestyle of a working student. Hopefully, this will give more working students the drive to upskill, pursue their studies and become highly skilled professionals that will help boost the country’s economy in the years to come.
If you’re looking for a career with Concentrix, head to their Ayala North Exchange Makati or Nuvali, Sta. Rosa offices to apply as a Customer Service Advisor and get a chance to be a part of the Work & Study program. If getting your college degree online is your next step, applications for MMDC’s school year 2024 to 2025 are ongoing. Term 1 will start on August 19, 2024. Enrollment ends on August 31, 2024. Apply now.
To make college education more accessible to all Filipinos, MMDC also offers the Asenso Scholarship to incoming working students. This gives a 36% discount on tuition fees and can be enjoyed until graduation. MMDC also offers financial aid programs with BukasPH and GCash to support working students in the country. When it comes to safeguarding personal health and future, many Filipinos are still considered vulnerable.
Poor nutrition is a major contributor to a range of chronic diseases and among the most common diseases in the country are diabetes, heart disease, and anemia. Recent data also show the Philippines is experiencing a surge in obesity rates and diet-related deaths. The National Nutrition Survey revealed that the prevalence of overweight and obese adults has increased significantly over the past decade. These highlight the urgent need for improved nutrition and healthcare strategies to address this growing epidemic.
While good nutrition is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle, it’s only part of the equation. To fully safeguard one’s health, financial preparation is essential. Just as nutritious food fuels and protects the body, having a health fund allows one access to the appropriate medical care when needed, creating a well-rounded approach to one’s overall wellbeing.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the poorest Filipinos shell out 75% of out-of-pocket health spending while the richest spend 58% for medicine. Health insurance not only provides financial protection, but also facilitates timely access to healthcare services. With the right insurance plan, individuals can receive regular check-ups and treatments that can prevent or manage chronic diseases effectively.
Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa) is committed to helping Filipinos achieve this balance. By offering a range of health insurance plans tailored to meet diverse needs, the company aims to support individuals in their journey towards better health and financial security.
For those who want lifetime health coverage, the company offers Sun Grepa Fit and Well, a comprehensive life and health protection that provides financial benefits upon early or late diagnosis of any of the 114 covered critical conditions. There are also specialized health protection plans such as the Sun Grepa Senior Care for people in their golden years, Sun Grepa Cancer Care for those battling cancer, and Sun Grepa ICU Protect, which pays benefits in case of ICU confinement.
“We at Sun Life Grepa are continuously looking for innovative financial solutions to address emerging health issues and concerns, giving the uninsured more ways to protect themselves and their future, not just through good nutrition, but also through affordable health coverage and maximum health protection,” said Richard S. Lim, president of Sun Life Grepa.
The legal team of Sun Life Philippines has been recognized in the Legal 500 GC Powerlist, an elite roster that highlights the most influential in-house lawyers and legal teams in the Philippines.

At the ninth Made by Google event, Google showcased how it is bringing the best of Google AI to the Pixel and Android ecosystems.
Alongside the unveiling of the latest additions to the Pixel portfolio — the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold — Google emphasized its commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into its devices, enhancing user experiences across both Pixel phones and the broader Android platform.
With Gemini being fully integrated into the user experience, Pixel and Android devices deliver a bigger range of more innovative and helpful Google AI features, including:
Gemini Live. Subscribers of Gemini Advanced can now have a natural, fluid, and incredibly intuitive back-and-forth dialogue with your AI assistant. Gemini can seamlessly follow along, just like a person would.
Gemini Overlay. You can now bring up Gemini’s overlay on top of the app you’re using to ask questions about what’s on your screen. For example, you can find specific information about a YouTube video you’re watching. You can also generate images directly from the overlay and drag and drop them into apps like Gmail and Google Messages.
More apps and extensions powered by Gemini.Gemini can help with tasks big and small by integrating with all the Google apps and tools you use today. And unlike other assistants, it does so without you having to jump between apps and services. Google is launching new extensions in the coming weeks, including Keep, Tasks, Utilities, and expanded features on YouTube Music. Let’s say you’re hosting a dinner party: Have Gemini dig out that lasagna recipe Jenny sent you in your Gmail, and ask it to add the ingredients to your shopping list in Keep. And since your guests are your college friends, ask Gemini to “make a playlist of songs that remind me of the late ‘90s.” Without needing too many details, Gemini gets the gist of what you want and delivers.
Moreover, Gemini has also been redesigned for different smartphone makes. Those on foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 can open the Gemini in a multi-window, split-screen experience.
As part of its ongoing commitment to user privacy and security while driving innovation, Google’s Gemini is designed to safeguard personal information through a secure, all-in-one approach that avoids reliance on third-party AI providers. Additionally, the introduction of Gemini Nano, a large on-device multimodal AI model, enables secure processing of sensitive data directly on the phone.
Gemini is now available in 45 languages across more than 200 countries and territories, supporting hundreds of phone models from various manufacturers.
Rakuten Viber, a global leader in private and secure messaging and voice-based communication, will soon launch its in-app digital payments feature Viber Pay in the Philippines. Rakuten Viber will be the first messaging app in the Philippines to offer a fintech solution that allows friends, loved ones, and businesses to instantly send money as easily and securely as sending a Viber message.
Filipinos can secure early access to Viber Pay ahead of the full launch by updating their Rakuten Viber app to the latest version and joining the waitlist from the new ‘Pay’ tab, which is being rolled out over the coming days. Early access will begin in September.
Once early access is granted, users can activate their digital wallet by completing a simple signup process that usually takes less than a minute. After activation, users can instantly send money to friends and family on Rakuten Viber for free; add money to their account through mobile wallet apps GCash and Maya, bank transfers, or over-the-counter methods; and securely buy from businesses that accept InstaPay. They will also be able to enjoy a range of exciting offers exclusive to Viber Pay from leading brands.
To upgrade to the full Viber Pay experience, users must verify their identity by scanning their ID and uploading a selfie. Once verified, they can request money from friends on Rakuten Viber with a QR code, withdraw funds from their wallet, and increase their monthly transaction limit from PHP50,000 to PHP100,000.
Users in the Philippines will also be the first in the world to receive business wallets to keep personal and business finances separate in Viber. Business owners can open a Business wallet, in addition to their Personal wallet, and accept secure payments from customers via a QR code. Unlocking the full benefits of the Business wallet, including a higher transaction limit of PHP500,000, requires a verification process similar to opening a personal Viber Pay wallet. Business wallets are expected to be available on Viber Pay shortly after the launch of Personal wallets.
Viber’s commitment to security (and that of its licensed partner) was a critical factor in the success of the initial launch of Viber Pay in Greece and Germany. Beyond industry-standard security measures to protect user data and transactions, wallet access and transaction confirmations are further protected by a PIN code and biometric authentication. To provide licensed and regulated payment services, Viber partnered with Paynamics, a trailblazer in the payments industry, that has a proven track record of driving technological advancements and setting new standards for financial transactions.
The launch of Rakuten Viber’s digital wallet comes as the Philippines notes high demand for cashless transactions. The latest Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Study shows mobile wallet usage in the country jumped to 87% in 2023, on par with cash transactions. 43% of surveyed Filipinos said they carry less cash due to the increasing popularity of cashless and contactless payments, supported by wider acceptance among stores and merchants.
“The Philippines stands out as a key market with a robust community of active Rakuten Viber users and a growing demand for secure cashless transactions, and so we expect to see strong demand and usage here for Viber Pay,” saysRitesh Shah, vice president of FinTech and Business Solutions at Rakuten Viber.“Launching Viber Payments here sets the stage for a more convenient, inclusive, and secure payments ecosystem, ensuring that Filipinos can enjoy secure, hassle-free payment services within the super app where they already call and chat with their loved ones every day.”
Experience fast, easy, and secure transactions with Viber Pay, coming soon to Rakuten Viber. Join the waitlist now by scanning the QR code with your mobile device.

Huawei Philippines has partnered with the prestigious De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s (DLS-CSB) Multimedia Arts (MMA) Program to transform the digital learning experience, encouraging creativity and innovation using Huawei’s GoPaint app featured on the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S. The upgraded PaperMatte Display on the new HUAWEI MatePad tablet enhances the students’ user experience, providing a more satisfying feel when creating art on the tablet.
Huawei took part in the festivities to commemorate the MMA Program’s anniversary. Held at the DLS-CSB’s Design and Arts Campus last July 30 to August 1, the event was a vibrant fusion of technology and artistic expression, reflecting on the program’s legacy of nurturing creative talent.
DLS-CSB’s MMA Program, a pioneering program in the Philippines, is celebrating 25 years of making waves in the creative industry with a 3-day event honoring the program’s past, present, and future. The event offered a unique opportunity to not only celebrate the program’s achievements in the last 25 years.
A Powerful Device for Creative Students and Professionals
MMA Chairperson Katrina Juane explained that the program has always prioritized providing students with an optimal learning environment, allowing them to gain valuable lessons and experiences that will help them achieve their goals.
In celebration of the program’s 25-year legacy, Juane claimed that they sought to partner with organizations to help mount a modest exhibition. “To our delight, Huawei stepped in with support by providing us with their latest (MatePad) tablets,” said Juane. “This partnership with Huawei Philippines perfectly aligns with the program’s thrust as the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S meets our students’ needs for a portable digital drawing tool.”
She added, “We envision the future of the MMA program not just as a benchmark for other schools, but as a destination where international students aspire to study Multimedia Arts.” During the 3-day event, Huawei was present to offer attendees an exclusive opportunity to experience their latest gadget offerings, including the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S, HUAWEI MatePad SE 11”, HUAWEI Pura 70 Series and the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3.
The event featured “Artist Talks,” where MMA alumni Jer Dee and Saki Elbambo talked about their creative journeys with the current MMA students. They shared their experiences and insights to inspire and guide the next generation of creatives. Huawei also participated in these talks, highlighting the newest addition to Huawei’s MatePad tablet lineup, the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S.
Students had the chance to interact with the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S, which combines performance with portability. The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S packs a punch with PC-Level productivity tools apps, including the upgraded WPS Office 2.0 and HUAWEI Notes. The device’s SuperHub and Super Device features allow users to work seamlessly across devices.
The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S also comes with the upgraded PaperMatte Display with anti-glare and anti-reflection technology, providing a vibrant and eye-friendly viewing experience. Certified by SGS and TÜV Rheinland for its eye-protecting properties, the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S features true-to-life color displays, allowing users to create their masterpieces without worrying about color accuracy.
The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S offers a superior, paper-like creative experience. The ultra-hydrophobic, oil-resistant film on the screen prevents fingerprint stains, enhancing touch controls, and reducing the need for frequent cleaning. This makes the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S one of the leading devices, especially for users who like to create art much like the students and the graduates of DLS-CSB’s MMA Program. Using nano-level etching technique, the screen realistically replicates the texture of paper. Used with the third generation HUAWEI M-Pencil, powered by NearLink technology, the screen simulates the sound and feel of pencil on paper. The NearLink connection offers higher accuracy, more pressure levels, and lower latency, allowing creatives to sketch and write with precision and a natural feel.
Students also used Huawei’s new GoPaint app, a user-friendly app developed in collaboration with the China Academy of Art. GoPaint offers realistic painting effects, tested by over 1,000 professional painters, and includes over 100 brushes and numerous textures. It delivers a seamless painting experience with minimal latency and smooth frame rates, featuring tools like Canvas Background Pattern, Ink Wash, curve correction, and willow leaf for enhanced artistry. Full-set app tutorials, interactive guides, and built-in manuscript templates help beginners navigate the app and improve their skills. Whether users are experienced artists or budding ones, GoPaint and the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S make the ultimate duo for artistic expression.
Juane said, “Our students used these tablets to create artworks, some of which were chosen to be featured in the Multimedia Arts Festival scheduled for the last quarter of this year.” She added, “We’re incredibly grateful to Huawei for giving our students the chance to explore such an excellent digital drawing device firsthand.”
Select student pieces were featured in a dedicated space at the Comic-Con Market on the 12th floor of DLS-CSB’s Design and Arts Campus, demonstrating the impeccable creative talent and skills and the tablet’s boundless creative potential. Michelle Manabat, a student, shared her experience with the tablet. She said, “It was great; I love (that) it’s pressure sensitive, and it really felt like I was drawing on paper.” She added, “I love painting so it really felt like I was painting.”
Asked whether she found the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S helpful for her field, Manabat answered, “Since I am in game development, we have an art back and we really need (a tablet like) this especially when we fo game drafts in class.”
MMA student Su Jong Song was thrilled with the GoPaint app, particularly its user-friendliness and the depth of its features. “I like how you can tweak the colors and play around with the color saturation, gradient maps, and the curve tool,” said Song. “You can practice your color skills (with GoPaint), considering there is a variety of options to tweak colors. And I think, since it’s a drawing app, you (can) practice your illustration skills.”
Song added, “The PaperMatte Display on the tablet makes it more efficient for me.”
Charisse Umaran, another student who used the GoPaint app on the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”S to create an artwork said, “I think this is one of the best paint programs that I’ve used for a tablet.” She remarked, “This captured my ideas and it’s very user-friendly and beginner-friendly for a traditional artist going digital. I think it’s very convenient, and (you experience) no lags.”

Grab Philippines unveiled its strides in providing reliable transportation services to Filipino commuters. In the first half of the year, nine out of 10 passengers trying to book a Grab ride were successfully allocated a driver within an average of 21 seconds — demonstrating a faster booking time versus the year prior.
This improvement in reliability was encapsulated in yet another series of out-of-the-ordinary videos which comically warn passengers, “Sorry, ‘Di Mo Na Kami Pwede Gawing Excuse”. With its improved driver allocation, more passengers are assured that they can rely on Grab for their transportation needs.
Grab attributes this improved service reliability to several factors: driver-partner satisfaction with the platform’s equitable fare system, the introduction of innovative technologies on the Grab platform, and the expansion of the Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver pool.
Fair Fares: Encouraging More Drivers to be Active
To ensure reliable mobility services, Grab maintains fair fares for its passengers and driver-partners. This balance fosters a stable demand-supply market, with passengers accessing cost-effective services and driver-partners earning viably.
“With our data-driven tools, we offer fares that are fair for both our passengers and driver-partners amid ever-changing market conditions,” says Grab PH chief operating officer Ronald Roda. “Fair fares mean our driver-partners can earn a living wage enough to cover their everyday expenses and costs related to maintaining a vehicle. This is approximately two times the current minimum wage in Metro Manila. Along with this, we also maintain service accessibility and affordability of our services for consumers — all in accordance with set fare guidelines by the LTFRB.”
By continuously monitoring fare fairness during dynamic market conditions — including weather, traffic, and changes in supply and demand — Grab encourages more drivers to be active on the roads. This ensures that passengers can book a GrabCar ride and reach their destinations safely and conveniently.
New Innovations: Leveraging Tech to be More Reliable
Grab leverages these innovative technologies to enhance the reliability of its mobility services:
Advance Booking ensures timely airport rides, eliminating travel-related stress for passengers. The service allows bookings up to 7 days in advance, with a flexible reservation window and a guaranteed on-time pick-up. Advance Booking touts a reliability rate of 98% — guaranteeing allocated rides.
Group Rides enables a more collaborative approach among colleagues in booking a Group Ride. Users can conveniently initiate a Group Ride through a widget located on the transport page, with the flexibility to opt for “Arriving Together” or “Departing Together”. Each participant in the Group Ride can independently choose their respective stops, all while sharing a standard base fare, making the journey more economical. Features such as Group Rides and GrabShare bolster Grab’s reliability by effectively optimizing the utilization of available vehicles on the road to accommodate multiple passengers.
Multi-Taxi Type Booking allows users the flexibility to book different types of cars in a single booking process — potentially reducing booking time. An MTT booking allocates the nearest available car, regardless of whether it’s a GrabCar four-seater, six-seater, or a regular GrabTaxi.
Additionally, Grab integrates productivity-enhancing technology for its drivers, such as the Ride Guide feature — a tool that guides drivers toward high-demand areas, improving booking reliability.
Growing Supply: A Gradual Journey to a Balanced Market
In 2023, the ride-hailing industry moved closer to achieving a demand-supply balance, with the LTFRB releasing around 25,000 TNVS slots, positively impacting service reliability.
This has enhanced Grab’s performance, with the average pickup time being reduced to approximately six minutes — allowing users to have enough grace period to prepare and go to the pick-up point. This is a result of increased vehicle availability and streamlined operations.
Grab Philippines chief operating officer Ronald Roda shares, “Amidst our advancements and strong position in the ride-hailing industry in the Philippines, Grab remains committed to uplifting the lives of both our passengers and driver-partners. As we serve more of our kababayans, we are dedicated to providing the very best that Grab has to offer. Our drive towards a more connected, efficient, and sustainable future fosters an inclusive ecosystem where everyone prospers.”
