The Yamaha Philippines racing team shifted their focus to the national tournaments here in the Philippines after falling short in round 4 of the ARRC at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Indonesia last July 26-28.
Despite a quick turnaround, the limited time didn’t hinder Yamaha Philippines racing team members McKinley Kyle Paz and Gian Carlo Mauricio when they competed in the Inside Racing Grand Prix. They achieved victories in both the 300V Sprint Race Super Open UB GP and Motul Super Open UB GP. In the sprint, Paz started 3rd on the grid but still overcame other riders and finished in 1st place. Mauricio, started further down at the 7th spot and still managed a podium finish at 3rd. In the Super Open, they dominated the field with Paz claiming first place and followed swiftly by Mauricio.
The following week they joined the RUGP, a race that was initially not part of their racing schedule. This competition was usually won by other manufacturers until Yamaha Philippines decided to participate. But Paz and Mauricio showed why they are on a different level as they ruled the Diablo Cup UB155 LTD GP and UB155 OPEN SP.
These string of competitions on home soil should help prepare the riders of the Yamaha Philippines racing team for round 5 of the ARRC in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit on September 13-15.

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) warn customers against vishing, or phishing over voice calls. Smart had earlier reported a marked decline in SMShing, or phishing over SMS, after it activated its new and more advanced network firewall.
“Criminals are quick to adapt. Now that our new firewall has made it harder for them to send text scams, they now resort to calling customers on their mobile phones or via over-the-top apps to lure them into revealing critical personal data,” warned Jojo Gendrano, SVP and chief information security officer at PLDT and Smart.
Vishing is a form of phishing done over voice calls. It’s a type of social engineering where fraudsters, pretending to be bank agents, call their potential victims to trick them into sharing personal information like log-in details, account numbers, and credit card CVV numbers. They may address the victim by his or her name to sound legitimate. They typically induce panic in their victims by warning them of account closure or suspension. These cybercriminals may also tell customers that they have been chosen for a free credit card upgrade and will only need to confirm their information to activate the new card. Either of these tactics is being used to persuade customers into revealing sensitive data.
Cybercriminals are getting more sophisticated, too. They have employed Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate life-like voices or mimic the voice of a victim’s close acquaintance to gain their trust.
“Once criminals possess the necessary information, they will then take over the customer’s account, empty their savings or use their credit card information to make unauthorized transactions,” added Gendrano.
Smart recently activated its new and more advanced network firewall in the first half of July, significantly enhancing its capability to weed out text scams. The new cybersecurity tool was able to block as many as 30 million malicious texts in one day, leading to a notable decline in the number of SMShing messages reported by customers in July.
Smart continues to engage customers in the fight against mobile technology-aided crimes. Useful #BeCybersmart tips to identify vishing and other phishing attacks can be summed up in the acronym ‘SCAM’.
S is for ‘Suspicious’. Never answer calls or respond to messages from unverified or unknown numbers. Banks do not usually initiate calls nor send SMS asking for your bank account details. Likewise, official bank and Smart representatives will never ask for OTPs.
C is for ‘Clickbait’. Scam texts often bait victims with too-good-to-be-true offers or prize winnings, urging them to click the link to avail of the limited-time offer.
A is for ‘Alarming’. Scammers create a sense of fear or dread to prod potential victims into sharing sensitive information.
M stands for ‘Malicious’. If your PON is green but blinking, this means there is no connection. Your first step in WiFi troubleshooting is to determine whether the device is encountering problems.
2. Restart your modem
First things first: try the classic “turn it off and on again” approach. Restarting your modem can work wonders in refreshing your connection and fixing many minor issues. Wait for 30 seconds to allow your device to fully shut off before powering it up again.
3. Inspect your wires and cables
Loose or damaged cables can disrupt your internet connection. Ensure all wires are securely plugged in and have no visible damage. A quick inspection might save you a lot of headaches.
4. Check your connection: 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz

To optimize your connection, try reducing the number of connected devices when possible. Browser plug-ins may also slow down your browsing experience. Selecting a plan that aligns with your family’s needs is essential for smooth internet usage.
7. WiFi placement matters
The placement of your modem plays a significant role in signal strength. For best results, position it in a central location within your home, away from thick concrete walls that can weaken the signal. Be mindful of potential interference from appliances operating on the 2.4GHz frequency, such as microwaves or cordless phones.
8. Unauthorized Devices
Security is paramount when it comes to your home network. Regularly check for unauthorized devices connected to your WiFi to ensure your bandwidth isn’t shared without your knowledge.

Honda SENSING: Safety for everyone
One of the highlight features on all the variants of the All-new Honda CR-V, including the hybrid RS e:HEV, is Honda SENSING technology.
Honda SENSING is actually a suite of functions that work together towards Honda’s global safety concept of “safety for everyone,” and a collision-free society where all road users can get to their destinations safely, and without incident.
The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is one of the more impressive features within Honda’s SENSING technology. CMBS takes information from the camera and radar to detect possible collisions. Should one be detected, the system will issue a visual and audible warning. If a collision remains imminent, the vehicle assists the driver by applying the brakes appropriately. This feature not only warns the driver, but actively works to prevent or minimize impact.
Next up, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF) uses a combination of a front-facing camera and radar to perceive the vehicle in front, as well as your distance to it. Unlike traditional cruise control that simply maintains a given speed, this system accelerates and brakes to keep the same distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead, greatly reducing fatigue on long stretches of faster-moving traffic.
Low-Speed Follow on the other hand is active in stop-and-go traffic, assisting the driver by taking on some of the processing load that happens in slow-moving traffic like what one would normally encounter in the city.
The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) helps the vehicle maintain its position in the middle of the lane when on the highway. Using the information from the front-facing camera, the system detects when the vehicle moves outside of the optimal position in the middle of the lane, alerts the driver, and gently assists in bringing the vehicle back into the center of the lane.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) work hand-in-hand by taking note of lane boundaries, and give the driver visual and tactile warnings to alert them that they are approaching the edge of the lane, or are about to cross into the unpaved section of the road. The system also gently corrects the steering in order to direct the vehicle back into the proper lane position.
Auto High Beam optimizes visibility by activating the high beams when the system detects that there are no oncoming vehicles, and lowers deactivates the high beams appropriately to avoid dazzling other road users. The RS e:HEV variant of the CR-V also has the Adaptive Driving Beam: an intelligent LED lighting system that delivers excellent visibility without blinding the vehicles in front.
Finally, Lead Car Departure Notification alerts the driver once the car in front of them has started to move from a standstill.
Honda CONNECT: The future of automotive connectivity
Honda CONNECT takes in-car connected services to new heights, offering features that set the All-New Honda CR-V apart from the rest in its class. Honda CONNECT works in conjunction with the user’s phone through a connected app to add safety, security, and convenience to the driving experience.
Safety features included in the Honda CONNECT suite include Automatic Collision Detection that autonomously detects when a collision occurs, and immediately calls for help for a timely response to the emergency. Security Alarm Detection sends an alert to the user’s smartphone should the vehicle’s alarm be triggered, and Speed Alert sends notifications to the user’s phone when the vehicle reaches certain speeds.
Honda CONNECT also delivers new security features. Find My Car pins your vehicle’s location on a map on your smartphone so you can avoid losing your car in a large parking lot, or new neighborhood. Geofencing sends an alert should the vehicle stray outside a set area, and Emergency Calls gives the user fast access to emergency contacts within the Honda CONNECT app.
Finally, Honda CONNECT gives features that make owning any variant of the All-New Honda CR-V much more convenient. Car Status doubles as both a system to keep the user informed of any concerns that need to be addressed, and provides diagnostic support when needed. Remote Vehicle Controls gives the app the ability to start or stop the vehicle remotely, access to climate control, remote lock control, and remote access to the lights.
This system also gives service reminders, and can even assist with booking an appointment with an official Honda service center. You even get access to social networking sites to share your drives with your friends and followers, and get Honda-specific news and alerts.
