Apple has allegedly filed an application for the ‘iWatch’ trademark in Japan on the 3rd of June.
According to Bloomberg, the company has taken actions to trademark the title for use with wearable technology, “including a handheld computer or watch device”.
The application follows reports that Apple has around 100 hardware developers working on an iOS-powered smartwatch that’s able to perform some of the tasks that the iPhone and iPad are capable of.
Apple is yet to officially confirm this, but once verified, the company is expected to face competition with the likes of Samsung, Google, and Microsoft, who are also believed to be experimenting on wearable technology.
