Smart Communications held a Customer Day at its store in SM North EDSA Cyberzone, bringing together customer activities, device promotions, and practical learning sessions on online safety and responsible digital behavior.
The event focused on helping subscribers recognize scams, protect personal and financial information, and make more informed decisions online. Smart said the initiative reflects its broader effort to complement connectivity services with digital education.
Recognizing and reporting scams
Through its SCAMpaign, Smart continues to raise awareness of evolving online threats and the tactics used by scammers. The program aims to help subscribers identify suspicious messages and activities, avoid common fraud schemes, and report possible scams.
Participants also learned about safer digital-payment practices, including protecting financial information and using cashless transactions more securely. These habits are increasingly important as more everyday purchases, bills, and financial services move online.
“This initiative reflects Smart’s broader commitment in ensuring that customers are not only connected but also protected and empowered,” said Brenda M. Dichoso, first vice president for customer experience at Smart. “We hope that through the Smart Customer Day, they can have fun and learn skills that can help them maximize the use of their mobile devices and safely navigate the online world.”
Using technology responsibly
Event host, content creator, and Smart brand ambassador Sam YG discussed responsible technology use amid the increasing volume of online information and rapidly changing digital risks.
“Ang daming scams, fake news, so it’s also good to have these events so that we could properly discuss how to use this privilege, this power properly,” he said. “Inasmuch as we are blessed with technology, it’s very important to be vigilant, to check if what we’ve digested is actually true, or baka fake news or scam. While tech is improving, scams are also improving.”
His remarks highlighted the need to verify information before sharing or acting on it. They also reinforced the importance of treating digital access as a tool that requires awareness and responsible use.
Exploring augmented reality
Guests were also given a demonstration of Rokid augmented reality glasses. The activity showed how emerging technology could support productivity, collaboration, and other everyday digital experiences.
The demonstration expanded the event beyond cybersecurity and digital habits by giving participants a closer look at new forms of personal technology. It also showed how customer education can include both the opportunities and risks created by technological change.
Connectivity in everyday life
Long-time Smart subscriber Jackie Rose Caez said dependable service supports her family’s work-from-home and online-learning needs. She also described the company’s customer initiatives as part of what makes subscribers feel valued.
“We won’t be staying with Smart for 30 years if we’re not getting the right services,” Caez said. “We feel valued as customers.”
Subscriber Jose B. Montalbo Jr., who frequently works in the field, also emphasized the importance of reliable connectivity outside major urban areas. “That’s exactly the reason why I stick with Smart. Mas maganda ang signal sa probinsya, you have promos na swak na swak,” he said.
More Customer Day events planned
Smart said additional Customer Day events are planned in other parts of the country. The program will continue to combine customer engagement with lessons on scam awareness, social media use, digital payments, and safer online participation.
“At Smart, we go beyond connectivity by listening to our customers and equipping them with the knowledge to stay safe, informed, and confident in the digital space,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, first vice president and co-officer-in-charge at Smart.
