If you like cars, we are almost certain you like Ferraris. They’re machines of impeccable engineering precision, they sound awesome, and, i hear if you look at one too long, you can get pregnant. There are, of course, many more things that make this engineering marvel amazing, and here’s another one. Ferrari recently set a record-breaking parade of 964 Ferrari cars at a parade at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK. The Guinness Book of World Records made everything official, and racognized that the previous record of 385 cars set in 2008 was, indeed, blown out of the water. It was a spectacle in itself. There were so many cars, and they were, at one point, all moving so that there was only 250 feet separating the tail end of the parade from the lead car. Now, if only we can convince someone to give us even a single one…

Disney announces ongoing transaction to acquire Lucasfilm
Just this week, The Walt Disney Company officially announced that it is acquiring Lucasfilm LTD, including the legendary Star Wars franchise, in a stock and cash transaction valued at USD $4.05 billion. Lucasfilm, owned wholly by renowned director George Lucas, joins Pixar and Marvel as some of Disney’s most biggest acquisitions.
“This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value,” states Disney CEO Robert Iger.
“It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come,” says Lucas.
The deal denotes that Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm LTD and its current operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production, plus the company’s portfolio. The press release expresses its intent for Lucasfilm employees to retain their posts at their headquarters in San Francisco, California.
According to the announcement, Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president, and will report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. She will also serve as the brand manager for Star Wars and become the executive producer for new Star Wars feature films. George Lucas will continue to be a creative consultant.
Disney has also revealed that they are set to release a 7th installment to the franchise (Star Wars Episode 7) in 2015, while Episodes 8 and 9 are in the works as well. The goal, said Iger in a conference call, was to “release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.” They have also announced that there will be “more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.”
When Disney acquired Marvel in 2009, a number of Disney-Marvel crossover memes hit the social media sphere, including hybrids of each company’s characters, like Iron Man and Mickey Mouse (dubbed as “Iron Mouse”). Since the announcement of the ongoing transaction to acquire Lucasfilm, similar memes have popped up here and there. Check out some of the images we found on Mashable!
Skype unveils Windows Phone 8 app
Shortly after rolling out its Windows 8 version, Skype has just announced its new app for Windows Phone 8.
The new Skype app now sports a cleaner user interface. One of the significant changes in the app is the adoption of the always-on functionality, which means that the program is always running in the background and you can receive calls and instant messages through the app even if you’re running other programs or if your phone is locked. This feature is highlighted in the promo clip, which you can check out for yourself in the video below.
The new Skype also supports Snap, which means you can move your call window to the side of the screen while you do other things, like watch videos, surf the web on your browser, and edit documents.
Incoming Skype calls will arrive in the form of the Windows Phone calling screen. The app also includes a call waiting function that lets you hold a Skype call while taking a regular call on your mobile phone.
While your screen is locked and set on the homepage, any Skype notifications will appear at the top of your screen, together with your missed call alerts and new messages. The Live Tiles on your Windows Phone 8 Start screen can also show you the number of unread Skype messages you have or missed calls. Plus, you get to see a preview of your latest message on the screen’s largest tile.
Aside from being able to select and group your favorite contacts for easy access, the new Skype also lets you interact with your Windows Messenger buddies as it can be interconnected with your Microsoft account.
Plus, if you think your current contact list is a bit too crowded, with a simple pinch of the screen you can change your scrolling list of contacts to cleaner, alphabetized menu.

Hands-on: Windows Phone 8X by HTC
Though Microsoft is outing Windows 8 devices left and right at their local Windows 8 launch, we’ve been primarily been hunting for Windows Phone 8 devices. One of the devices that we saw today was the Windows Phone 8X by HTC. We initially had fears that it looks too similar to Nokia’s Lumia line of devices, but when we finally held it today our fears were laid to rest. This is by far the best looking (and feeling!) Windows Phone device we’ve ever handled, and that’s not a joke considering that Nokia’s Lumia 920 is pretty solid in it’s own right.
Just like the Nokia Lumia 920 that we held earlier today, we didn’t have a lot of time with the device, but from what we could see, it’s pretty damn awesome. The overall thickness of the device isn’t as beefy as other previous Windows Phone devices – in fact it’s pretty thin. But even though it’s a thin device, it doesn’t mean it feels cheap or fragile – on the contrary, we think that this particular Windows Phone 8 device can probably take a beating before saying uncle, though we didn’t actually test that particular feature out (the owner of the device was keeping his eye on us, lest we pound it against the table like we did with their One X). We’ll be seeing more of this device later on in the week in Singapore for its official Asian debut.
Hands-on: Nokia Lumia 920, comparison pics with Galaxy Note II
We’re here at the official Windows 8 launch in the Philippines and we stumbled on the Nokia’s Lumia 920. So as is our custom, we eagerly put out grubby paws on it. Short version is: its looks and feels awesome. The solid feel of their previous polycarbonate devices is alive and well with the Lumia 920, as we couldn’t find anything amiss when it came to build quality.
Windows Phone 8 is pretty awesome. The upgraded Live Tile functionality is pleasant to look at and is extremely useful, as it gives users information at a glance without even opening an app. We’re not going to go into too much of Windows Phone 8 (chiefly because we still haven’t spent a large amount of time with it) but our short time with it leaves us wanting more.
One of the main draws of the Nokia Lumia 920 is the PureView sensor embedded in it. Nokia promises improved low-light performance with the Lumia 920 over other phones. It just so happened that we had a Samsung Galaxy Note II on hand during the launch, so we put up the Lumia 920’s camera head-to-head against the one in the Galaxy Note II. We’ve uploaded both unedited photos below.

Surprisingly, the picture taken with the Nokia Lumia 920 looks a bit underexposed and dark compared to the Galaxy Note II. But if you look at the pictures closer, you’ll see that the picture taken with the Note II exhibits a lot of noise which isn’t apparent on the Lumia 920.
That’s it for now kiddies. We’ll try to get more time with the Nokia Lumia 920 when we can. There is no word on prices for the Lumia 920 as of yet.

Google announces Nexus 10 tablet: 10.1-inch, 2,560×1,600 resolution display, Android 4.2, dual-core 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos processor, priced at $399
Remember that Nexus 10 tablet that leaked a few days ago? Well, Google has finally made that particular piece of hardware official. The leak was pretty accurate – the device is made by Samsung and will have a 10.1-inch, 2,560×1,500 resolution display which gives the device a pixel density of 300 ppi. On the inside, it’ll sport a Samsung made, 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Other hardware features include NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 5-megapixel rear camera. El Goog is promising that users will have about 9 hours of usable battery life on this thing, which is pretty awesome. Since this is a Nexus device, it will ship with the latest Android version, Android 4.2.
What’s striking about the Nexus 10 tablet is the price – Google will be asking $399 for the 16GB version, which if you’re not aware, is $100 less than Apple’s current iPad. The 32GB version is priced at $499. Yes, it seems that Google is prepared to wage a price war with Apple when it comes to tablets. Apple has fundamentally cornered the 10-inch tablet market with their iPad but it seems that Google is prepared to do anything to cut into Apple’s tablet market share. Customers in U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan will have first dibs on November 13.
LG and Google announce Nexus 4 smartphone: 4.7-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro 1.5GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.2 on-board
While Hurricane Sandy may have put the brakes on Google’s Nexus event today, that doesn’t mean that the search giant can’t spread the official word on their newest Nexus device. Finally, after being thoroughly leaked, the LG made Google Nexus 4 is finally official. Just like what the leaks said, the Nexus 4 has a 4.7-inch, 1280×768 resolution True HD IPS Plus display, giving the Nexus 4 a pixel density of 320ppi. All of that display real estate is lovingly protected by a Gorilla Glass 2 panel. Imaging-wise, the Nexus 4 is armed with a 8-megapixel rear camera complimented with a 1.3 megapixel HD front camera.
On the inside, the Nexus 4 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, with 1.5GHz Quad-Core Krait CPUs. That impressive spec is paired with 2GB of RAM. Storage-wise, users will be able to choose between a 8GB and a 16GB variant, unfortunately the Nexus 4 does not come with a microSD card slot, so you’re pretty much stuck with the storage option that you choose when you buy one. As is the custom with Nexus branded devices, the Nexus 4 will come with the latest Android version – 4.2. The Nexus 4 also comes with wireless charging capabilities, as well as NFC built-in.
As far as roll-out is concerned, US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Australia will be the first countries to get their hands on it come November 13, unfortunately there’s no word on pricing as of yet.

NVIDIA Tegra 3 receives update
NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor (specs in image above) received an update—and now it is usable with Android OS 4.1 (Jellybean). Some of the devices that use the Tegra 3 processor include the HTC One X+ and the LG Optimus Vu smartphones, along with the Google Nexus 7, ASUS Transformer Pad (TF300) and the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) tablets.
One of the unique things about the Tegra 3 processor update is its 4+1 quad-core capability—four cores to take on the graphical demands of your device whether you’re watching videos or playing games, and an additional fifth low-power or “shadow” core that only kicks in when you’re doing something that doesn’t need the power of the other four cores, such as browsing the web or viewing photos. In addition, each core can open and close individually depending on how graphically demanding your tasks are. This also saves the battery power of the device, something that is a concern to most smartphone and tablet users, as heavy users tend to either frequently charge their devices through a wall charger or use various portable chargers.
The TegraZone, where people can download and install games that utilize NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor, receives over four million daily visits, has a four-star rating in the Android Market, and has 40+ titles out now and another 50 in the works. It also has user loyalty, as users re-visit every three days on average. So if you’re fond of playing high-quality games on your mobile device, you might want to invest in a device with NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor.
Asus outs ET2300 All-in-One PC, folds down into a tablet
Since Windows 8 is now officially out, manufacturers and OEMs are now scrambling to get their notebooks and hybrid devices out to the market as quick as they can. One of those manufacturers is Asus and their ET2300 AiO PC. This 23-inch desktop uses a multi-touch display that has a screen resolution of 1920×1080 which can be laid flat and used as large tablet.
Much like their laptops, the Asus ET2300 can be had in a variety of processor configurations, from a Core i3-3220 all the way up to an a Core i7-3770. You can pair that with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, which is complimented by a 2TB HDD drive. Other specs include discrete graphics via an NVIDIA GT 630M multiple connection ports and an optional Thunderbolt port. The Core i5 version of the ET2300 is priced at Php 49,600, which is pretty reasonable considering the things you are getting.
Need a costume for the 31st? The Force is strong in this one.
Everyone loves Halloween. It’s a great excuse to dress in costume and act silly, but not everyone has the ability to come up with a costume idea better than “sexy ______” or “pirate.” For the serious costume-r, the real appeal of a costume lies in the number of nerdgasms it will cause, and sure, you can get away with a One-handed Luke Skywalker or shell out for a Vader or Stormtrooper kit, but the real hardcore ones will build their own. Cockeyed.com’s friend Scott did just that. The same guy responsible for the Luke Skywalker on a Tauntaun costume from a few years back, is a HUGE Star Wars fan, and this year, he went all out, with CAD mapping, industrial punches and saws to come up with a glorious ATST costume. If you can spare the tie and industry, you can build your own through these instructions HERE. Better get cracking. You’ve got about two days and change.
