Nokia France head honcho says company is shipping Windows 8 tablet come June 2012

Seems like Nokia’s getting into the tablet market as early as the middle of next year-  the Verve has reported that Nokia France chief Paul Amsellem has been quoted saying that the company will have a Windows 8 tablet coming in June of 2012. That particular tidbit of information came by way of an interview with Les Echos newspaper. This bit of news has actually got us pretty excited, and to be honest, if we see the same type of work that the company did on their N9 (dead OS notwithstanding) then we wager that people would be flocking to buy the device. A Nokia spokesman has replied to the Verge that “we have not announced any specific plans as it relates to tablets,” but you know, they actually did.

Make hors d’oeuvres in an instant with Pigs in a Blanket Maker

    1

I don’t know about you but I love to cook for family and friends. Of course, I don’t usually like the aftermath and the clean-up I have to face after preparing simple appetizers like chicken and fish fingers (my specialties). But for those who want to whip something up quick and easy, minus the hassle of washing a sink full of dishes, there’s the Pigs in a Blanket Maker.

The Pigs in a Blanket Maker (as the name suggests) can whip up your favorite little sausage hors d’oeuvres in time for that spontaneous get-together at your place. But you can also create these adorable bite-sized snacks anytime, whether you’re alone or hosting some lunch/dinner party. And since the maker also comes with a recipe book, you’re sure to get a variety of finger-foods that’ll keep the guests asking for seconds.

HP’s ultrabook exposed: DM3 Folio ultrabook, 13.3 inches, comes in Core i3 and i5 flavors

    1

Seems like you won’t be spoilt of choice when you decide to grab an ultrabook, as HP has jumped in with their own offering, the HP Folio (DM3). This anorexic little number will be sporting a 13.3-inch screen and will come in two Intel flavors – a low voltage Core i3 running at 1.4 GHz and a Core i5 running at 1.6 GHz that can be turbo-boosted up to 2.3 GHz. Both variants will be more or less identical with each other, and will both sport 4GB of RAM (which is rumored to be expandable up to 8GB) with 128 GB solid state drives for storage. The overall aesthetic of the Folio is more or less typical HP, unlike the flashier UX line of ASUS. The Folio also has a backlit keyboard – something that other ultrabooks don’t have. The whole thing is just 18mm thick and weighs about 1.5 kilos, which means that the Folio is the ideal device for budding road warriors out there. You can go the this link to see more pictures of the device and a detailed hands-on.

Intel Sandybridge Extreme goes official, Quad memory support, up to 15MB of L3 cache

We’ve been quivering to talk about it ever since we signed our NDA with hardware vendor ASUS, but the anointed time has finally come. Intel has officially announced its two new processors: the Intel Core i7-3960X processor Extreme Edition and the Intel Core i7-3930K processor, the first six-core client processors in the second-generation “Sandy Bridge” Intel Core processor family. The Intel Core i7-3960X and the Intel Core i7-3930K are fully unlocked, which means overclockers can go wild with these processors as they see fit. The new CPUs run at base speeds of 3.3 and 3.2 GHz with 15MB and 12MB of L3 cache respectively, and will go on Intel’s X79 Express chipset that supports this new LGA 2011 socket platform. So aside from the blazingly fast speeds, what else do you get? Well, you’ll be getting 6Gb/s Serial ATA (SATA) ports and additional PCIe 2.0 lanes, as well as quad-channel memory support. Performance doesn’t come cheap, and although we don’t have local prices for these things yet, we’ve seen them going for $1,050 and $600 respectively at newegg.com. Ouch. We’ll tell you what we think as soon as we get the units in.

GCASH gives OFWs in Japan more affordable remittance service

    0

SBPS President & CEO Shinichi Ata and GXI President Paolo Baltao during the formal signing of the partnership agreement between the two companies.

G-Xchange, Inc (GXI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe Telecom that manages GCASH, partnered with SOFTBANK PAYMENT SERVICE CORP. (SBPS), a subsidiary of Japan’s SOFTBANK CORP., for an affordable, convenient, and secure remittance service that will greatly benefit Filipinos living and working in Japan.

With the partnership, Filipinos living and working in Japan can remit money to the Philippines via the GCASH platform.

“We are giving Filipinos in Japan a better choice with GCASH—providing an alternative remittance service that’s safe, secure and clearly more affordable. They can send money any time of the day from virtually anywhere in Japan in real time,” said Paolo Baltao, President of GXI.

“The service also benefits the families of OFWs as they can take advantage of GCASH REMIT’s 6,000 outlets nationwide, making GCASH highly accessible even to beneficiaries living in far-flung provinces,” added Baltao.

To avail of the service, a sender in Japan simply has to register for membership at the SBPS-GCASH website, www.gcash.jp, which can be accessed either from a PC or a smartphone. Members then use the SBPS-GCASH website to access remittance services. The sender inputs the amount of money to be sent along with the beneficiary’s name, address, and mobile number. A member must have enough money in his/her account for the transaction to push through. A member may deposit money to his/her SBPS-GCASH account via bank transfer either at the counter, ATM, or internet banking as well as more than 8000 convenience stores in Japan.

On the other hand, the beneficiary in the Philippines can receive the cash remittance coming from Japan in real time through GCASH REMIT’s outlets throughout the country which include Globe Stores, PR Savings Bank, GM Bank, Villarica, Tambunting, and Prime Asia Pawnshop branches, among others. The beneficiary may also opt to receive the remittance directly to his/her mobile phone enrolled in GCASH or deposit it in his/her bank account.

The minimum remittance charge is 500 Yen per transaction of up to 10,000 Yen, which is among the lowest in the industry. Clients are charged 700 Yen for each transaction above 10,000 Yen up to 30,000 Yen. A transaction fee of 1,350 Yen is charged to remittance exceeding 30,000 Yen.

To celebrate the launch of the new service, SBPS is running a campaign in which they will give away 500 Yen coupon applicable to a remittance to every customer who can register to the service until March 31, 2012. With the coupon, a customer may remit an amount of up to 10,000 Yen virtually free of charge.

For more information about the SBPS-GCASH remittance service, visit www.gcash.jp or call the SBPS-GCASH Customer Support Center in Japan at +81-6-6945-8480, from 10am to 10pm.

The all-new Ford Ranger receives groundbreaking safety ratings

The brand new Ford Ranger marks its place in history by becoming the first pickup to score the maximum 5 star rating under the Euro NCAP crash test protocol, as well as receiving the highest rating for any vehicle in pedestrian protection, setting a new standard of safety among pickup trucks.

How did the Ford achieve this? Before putting the new Ranger prototypes through rigorous real world tests, countless hours of research and virtual simulations were conducted. By diving into the simulated world first, precise calculations could be performed in order to achieve the optimum result. So now that we know about the research, what exactly does the new Ranger come equipped with? It’s actually quite a long list, but here’s a few examples.

The new Ford Ranger has an ultra-strong steel “reinforced passenger cell” which redirects the forces from impact away from the vehicle’s passengers to ensure its occupant’s safety. Additionally, this pickup has been equipped with pedestrian-friendly front bumpers and a “hexageneous under-bonnet structure to reduce the potential for pedestrian head injuries”.

The new Ranger also has some advanced driver assisting features as well, such as the standard Electronic Stability Program or ESP, which is basically a system of sensors that monitors the pickup’s movements and makes adjustments to suit the environment it’s in, whether it’s adapting to rough roads or ensuring that braking is applied correctly at a specified speed while descending down an incline.

The list goes on and on, but if you’re interested in “picking up” this pickup, the all-new Ford Ranger will be available in the Philippines in the first quarter of 2012.

Man beats up car with bare hands, looks to beat up Guile

    0

Here’s a video clip that’ll brighten up your boring Monday: an Asian man beating the hell out of a defenseless sedan ala Street Figther. One of the best things about playing that game as a kid was beating up that defenseless sedan in the bonus stage. Even if we weren’t able to reach Bison (or Vega if you were playing the Asian version), we left the arcade happy with the knowledge that we managed to wreck a sensible 4-door sedan. Well, apparently someone has been playing waaaay to much Street Fighter and have taken it upon himself to beat up a car with his bare hands, albeit with less flair and panache as Ryu did. Check out the video below, and compare it to the original Street Fighter bonus stage.

    (Thanks Elijah!)

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime spotted in the wild, side by side pictures with iPhone 4

A scant few days after being officially launched and specc’d, ASUS’ Transformer Prime has surfaced yet again – this time the quadcore tablet is given a hands-on of sorts by website ZTOP. The guys from ZTOP give the Transformer Prime a good once over, and took a number of comparison pictures of the tablet along with an iPhone 4 and the new DROID RAZR. They’ve also been kind enough to post a short video of the device running Shadowrun, which only affirms NVIDIA’s claims that the Transformer Prime is a tablet that’s not going to back down when it comes to gaming. We’ve embedded the video below, and you can go to ZTOP’s website here to catch more pretty pictures of the Transformer Prime.
