    Sony teams up with the People’s Champ

    0

    Two titans collide and join forces as the best pound for pound fighter, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao teams up with Sony, a veritable colossus in the consumer technology and entertainment industry as the fighting congressman becomes Sony’s newest partner in bringing the 3D World experience closer to Filipinos.

    “It is our honor to welcome this great hero into the Sony family,” said Mr. Takao Kuroda, President and Managing Director, Sony Philippines.  “Pacquiao is a man whose personal achievements have given his countrymen a shared experience of national glory.  Being a true symbol of power and triumph make him the perfect ambassador in our campaign to bring the sensational experience of the Sony 3D World to the Philippines.”

    Amidst the flashing lights of photographers and fans, Manny Pacquiao dons a pair of 3D glasses and experiences firsthand the 3D magic that only Sony can deliver. Asked later about the experience of watching content in 3D, he smiles and says in tagalog “the experience different, and it feels like the action on screen is about to jump out”. Manny is also the proud owner of the first Sony 3D TV in the country – a 52-inch LX900 complete with two pairs of 3D glasses.

    Sony’s heritage of innovation and renowned breakthrough technologies have brought to life many well-loved products, from wonderful movies, beautiful music, and epic games, to the sleek and powerful gadgets you have in your home.   With its pioneering 3D technology, Sony is the only tech company that has the ability to offer consumers everything from creating and producing 3D content (with the use of impressive 3D hardware products) and delivering the most complete 3D experience possible to our homes today.

    Sony’s showcase of the 3D TV last February of this year was followed by the highly anticipated introduction of PlayStation in the country.  PlayStation, being one of the consoles which can playback content (games and movies) in 3D – the other one being the Blu-ray player.  As competitors can only offer 3D TV and playback, for Sony, the 3D madness does not stop there.  The NEX-5 – which is able to capture photos in 3D Sweep Panorama shots – was also launched in Philippine shores last July.  Through the 3D Mall Tours, Sony was able to reach more Filipinos as they showcased 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals in 3D.

    Hi gadgeteers! As you may have deduced from the title, we turned ten years old this year! In celebration, we’re giving you a Top Ten issue this August both for tech and lifestyle. We are, after all, the first tech-lifestyle magazine in the Philippines. We didn’t hold back as we painstakingly compiled the ten best gadgets, whether it be TVs, smartphones, cellphones or cameras. And we’ve got not one, but two photo features! We remixed the ten best covers, added new gadgets and mixed in a special message from our CEO and publisher, Maribelle Alba. We’ve also got the lovely Anne Curtis on the cover, and a feature on her as well (she’s a complete pro!). If that’s not enough of a reason, we’ve also got features on the Top Ten websites and Top Ten beauty products. This is a must-have issue. If you haven’t gotten one yet, visit your favorite 7-11, National Bookstore, and Filbar’s now. Whaddaya still doing reading this? Go go go!

    Check out this behind the scenes footage of our covergirl shoot!

    They say all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy (ok, not really sure if the boy was named Jack, but y’all get it).

    And we here at Gadgets Magazine are hardly what you’d call your run-of-the-mill dull techie geek.

    Especially me.

    I’m a big, fat bully at the office. But a lovable one.

    And just to give you a glimpse of some of our “behind-the-scenes” antics, here’s the latest prank I pulled on our newest Gadgets’ member, Marketing and Events Officer, Mr. Francis Tan aka sexy guy who talks really deep (but says he doesn’t talk that way who our tech editor, John Nieves has a huge man-crush on), according to our Editorial Assistant, the lovely Ms. Danee Torres.

    Whew. =P

    Smart Bro began offering its new 3G MicroSIM last Sunday, July 25, at the NCR, Cebu, Davao and Baguio Wireless Centers and through accredited agents within those areas.

    We’ve actually secured our own Smart Bro microSIM here at Gadgets Magazine, and couldn’t be happier with the results. Setup couldn’t have been easier. We just popped the microSIM into our iPad and it started working, as simple as plug and play. No settings necessary: You don’t need to input any APN settings, reset network settings, or tinker with Cellular Data/MMS. As soon as the Smart Bro microSIM is in your iPad, you’re good to go!

    SMART promises up to 2 Mbps Internet speeds with its MicroSIM, and they certainly delivered. At one point, we actually hit 2238.05 Kbps. Check out the following screenshot of our Speedtest.

    The plan is exclusive to Plan 999 Unlimited, and will require a lock-in period of only six months. That’s shorter than your regular 24-month lock-in period, which in our opinion, makes the deal all the more enticing since this is much more low risk for the casual consumer. Initial cash-out is also just Php 999, which is paid upon submitting your application.

    We’ll be continuing to use the Smart Bro MicroSIM with our iPad 3G that lets us have our iPad fun anytime, anywhere!
