    Yamaha launches TFX street bike

Yamaha last Sunday launched the TFX street motorcycle at the Yamaha Rev Hall display held at SM Mall of Asia’s Music Hall. Promising its riders “The Fierce Experience,” the TFX is the newest addition to the brand’s MT family.

The Yamaha TFX runs on a 150 cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve, fuel injection engine putting out 16.32 ps @ 8500 rpm and 14.3 Nm of torque @ 7500 rpm. The power plant is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh system and is spurred to life by the signature red MT starter switch and TCI ignition system.

For performance, the Yamaha TFX is built with a sturdy deltabox frame, super wide 110/70/17 tubeless front tires, wide handlebar, and front-positioned seats for better handling and stability. Vibrations are dampened by a rear aluminum swing arm and 37 mm upside down forks, the latter of which absorbs shocks better in varying road conditions. Style-wise, the TFX struts a sporty-looking under-cowl and side-cowls, along with full LED headlights and a full inverted LCD speedometer. Available color options include silver and matte yellowish gray.

It is available in all Yamaha distribution channels nationwide for PHP 139,000.

    Bosch introduces latest starlight technology

    0

Bosch starlight cameras deliver the highest quality of relevant video surveillance, even in extremely low light conditions. From October, the starlight portfolio will be even further enhanced with improved light sensitivity, superb front and backlight compensation; higher frames rates as well as a wider choice of resolutions and form factors. Another compelling enrichment is that all Bosch IP 6000, 7000 and 8000 starlight cameras will feature Bosch video analytics at the edge as standard, instead of an optional feature requiring no additional investment or license fees from the customer.

Bosch feels that the offering of video analytics at the edge as standard is now a necessity to cater to the ever-increasing demand for details and the proliferation of cameras. Bosch video analytics adds sense and structure to video data already at the point of capture (at the edge), enabling users to effortlessly search through large amounts of video data and to pinpoint the information that matters most to them. In this way users can take appropriate action faster, easier and more efficiently. It also enables them to reduce network strain and storage requirements by streaming only the data needed.

The complete IP starlight camera portfolio from Bosch offers a wider selection of resolutions (720p, 1080p, 5 megapixel) and form factors including fixed box, fixed dome or moving dome cameras; as well as extremely rugged moving cameras for when conditions get tough. The starlight portfolio also offers higher dynamic ranges of up to 120 dB for perfect exposure in all lighting conditions regardless of front and backlight, as well as frame rates of up to 60 frames per second to easily capture fast moving objects.

In addition, the latest sensor technology, combined with sophisticated noise suppression, results in a light sensitivity of 0.0069 lux in color and 0.0008 lux in monochrome for the 1080p models. This enables starlight cameras to produce full color images in the dark beyond the point where other cameras have switched to monochrome. Where other cameras fail to show any image at all, starlight cameras are still capable of delivering detailed monochrome images.

Bosch’s video analytics at the edge enables starlight cameras to interpret data and to decide what and when to stream based on configurable triggers minimizing bandwidth requirements if needed. The end results are relevant alerts and key statistics which enhance the accuracy of the video surveillance system, providing relevant data for numerous security and non-security applications and substantially reducing the margin of error that comes with time consuming and labor intensive 24/7 human surveillance.

A full suite of Essential Video Analytics will be provided as standard without additional license fees on the DINION IP starlight 6000 fixed box and FLEXIDOME IP starlight 6000 fixed dome cameras at competitive price points. All IP 7000 and IP 8000 starlight cameras will come equipped with the state-of –the-art Intelligent Video Analytics from Bosch; a full suite of robust video analytics algorithms offering highest accuracy for the ultimate in video analytics. Like with Essential Video Analytics, Bosch Intelligent Video Analytics requires no additional investment or license fees from the customer.

Essential Video Analytics offers 15 different video analytics algorithms that can be used for advanced intrusion detection and enforcing health and safety regulations. It also possesses business analytics capabilities, such as people counting and crowd density information for retail environments.

Intelligent Video Analytics is specifically designed for the most demanding environments. It has the added capacity to deliver the highest level of accuracy for mission critical applications such as perimeter protection for airports and critical infrastructures, ship tracking and traffic monitoring.

Intelligent Video Analytics offers 17 different video analytics algorithms and can do everything that Essential Video Analytics does. What makes Intelligent Video Analytics stand out is its ability to differentiate between genuine security events and known false triggers such as challenging environments where snow, wind, rain, water reflections and distance could make images even more difficult to interpret. Thus minimizing costly false positives and enabling users to focus on what is relevant to them.

Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) marked the production of its five millionth motorcycle in the country September 26 at its manufacturing plant in Batangas.

Present at the celebration were: Toshiyuki Shimabara, operating officer of Honda Motor Co. Ltd.; Hiroaki Funami, director of Asian Honda Motor Co. Ltd. based in Thailand; HPI president Daiki Mihara; and over 1000 Honda executives, associates, and notable guests.

As part of the commemoration, Honda presented its previous milestone units created for every million motorcycles produced. The five millionth unit, a special edition XRM 125, was driven onto the stage.

The XRM 125 model, manufactured and sold only in the Philippines, has recorded over 1.4 million units in cumulative sales.

Since its move from Paranaque to the plant in Batangas in 2006, HPI has boosted its production of motorcycles to an average of half a million units per year.

Nine models are currently being produced from the manufacturing facility.

Due to the growing demand for motorcycles in the Philippines, Daiki Mihara says that HPI plans on increasing the output of the facility.

The plant features the only in-house test track for quality checking of any automotive manufacturing facility in the country, and has recently added a new assembly line just last week.

HPI started production of motorcycles in the country in 1973 and reached its first million units produced in 2005.

PLDT Enterprise rolls out eLearning Program to aid millennials’ studies

    0

PLDT Enterprise, via their Digital Mobility team, leads innovation in eLearning or digital technology-backed education as it recently launched SMART’s new eLearning Program for the academe and training institutions. This consists of a suite of products that leverage the benefits of internet-based technologies in schools.

This erases the perception that many people have of technology such as gadgets as mere distractions to students’ studies. The products in this suite are specifically developed to benefit not only students and teachers, but also administrators, parents, among many others.

“Our view is that the devices will serve more as effective study aids, and act less as distractions,” said Gio Abaquin, Head of Digital Mobility, Disruptive Business Group (DBG), the emerging technologies business unit of PLDT Enterprise.

“Today’s millennials have learned to accept the role that devices play in their daily lives. It is important to bring in this new technology into the classroom, for both the obvious, physical reasons, such as lighter physical loads versus heavy books and notebooks, as well as for technological benefits,” Abaquin explained.

“Mobile learning supports the learning process rather than being integral to it. Mobile learning can also be a useful add-on tool for students with special needs. It can be used as a ‘hook’ to re-engage disaffected youth,” Chet Alviz, Head of SMACS (Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and Security) added.

For the eLearning App, there will be package options such as app-only, app with SIM, as well as tablet bundles.

More than a Learning Management System (LMS), the SMART eLearning program creates an end-to-end Digital Campus Experience. SMART is set to roll out the eLearning program with select schools.

The whole suite offers PLDT iGate, SMART WiFi, SMART M2M SIMs, SMART Prepaid SIMs, customized website with eCommerce capability to help establish online presence, Vehicle and Personnel trackers for the school transport as well as for student use, customized App, including evolved learning solutions such as SMART’s eLearning LMS and Microsoft Office 365. All these can be accessed by authorized teachers, admin, and students in and out of the campus.

“We are very pleased to have included in our service portfolio an educational digital tool that not only benefits students, but also the entire school ecosystem. Parents, for example, will be able to gain access to their child’s developmental progress. Educators, on the other hand, will be able to freely interact with both students and parents on the more important aspects of today’s learning experience,” added Nico Alcoseba, Head of PLDT’s Disruptive Business Group.

PLDT Enterprise stressed digital technology-backed education is ever more rising and it believes the Philippines has a high potential for growth in eLearning adoption. Ambient Insight, an international market research firm that specializes in eLearning and Mobile Learning, said in a statement that in Asia alone, the market for learning and training programs supported by electronic technology is expected to reach $11.5 billion by 2016, or more than twice the $5.2 billion in 2011.

The two countries with the highest growth rates in the world are Vietnam and Malaysia, respectively at 44.3 percent and 39.4 percent. Also in the top 10 are Romania and China. The Asian region is also known for a high adoption in mobile technology, due to proliferation of low priced mobile devices.

Currently, the Philippines ranks at seventh place in terms of growth rate in e-learning. The country joins Thailand, India,Kenya, Slovakia, and Azerbaijan with growth rates of between 30 percent and 35 percent.

This shows that the Philippines is well on the way towards adapting eLearning for educational institutions – and even in businesses. SMART’s goal is to be at the forefront of that digital change, at home, at work, and even in school.

    Restaurant Review: Mario’s

    0

    Mario’s

The owners of the restaurant is Mr. Mario and Mrs. Nenuca Benitez. Their first branch started in Baguio and is now celebrating its 45th year. The second branch is at Tomas Morato, which is also known as one of the staples in that area. Mrs. Nenuca is the one who personally formulated the dishes. She learned how to cook through her mother and mother-in-law. Because of this, she was able to develop Filipino-Spanish recipes that are well-known today. The staffs are guided by the very hands-on, Mrs. Nenuca, especially when it comes to food handling. From time to time, she still meticulously taste every dish before it goes to the customers. Every ingredient in their kitchen is home-made. From its breads, sauces, mashed potatoes, everything is made from scratch.

Experience: The exterior of the restaurant can deceive you because it looks like a common establishment, but when you enter, the interior is an upscale version of a house. It looks neat and clean.

    screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-45-13-pm

First, they served us their most famous, Caesar Salad. You can be sure of its quality because they prepare the sauce everyday. Honestly, the Caesar lived up to my expectation. It is really the best Caesar Salad that I tasted. It is also my first time to taste a Caesar Salad with crispy anchovies on top because usually it is bacon or chicken strips. I am not a fan of salad, but I would eat this everyday. Words cannot describe the sauce. Head over to Mario’s to taste it yourself.

    screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-44-37-pm

Next is, Seafood Linguine. It is composed of squid, shrimps, clams and mussels doused in its own tomato sauce. The noodles is cooked Al Dente – perfect! The dish taste so good. You can really taste the freshness of the seafood accompanied by the sauce made from real tomatoes.

    screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-44-55-pm

For the main course, we were served with Charbroiled Blue Marlin with mashed potato and vegetables. The fish was very moist and juicy. Butter is not needed because its taste can stand alone. The mashed potato is also delectable. The Steak Bernaise is unforgettable. I usually want my steak medium-well, but their Steak Bernaise is an exception since it is cooked medium-rare. It was one of the best steaks that I’ve ever tasted. Considering its affordable price, this is the bomb! Accompanied by fetuccine al burro, this pasta is creamy and savory.

    screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-45-26-pm

For dessert, they served us Jubilee. One of their staffs flambéed the dish right infront of us. It was a great show indeed. This is a plus factor for customers who want to be entertained while dining.

Mario’s is perfect for proposals since they are open for special instructions such as assembling petals on the stairs, surprise flower bouquets, and many more.
