Sony PH launches music advocacy campaign “Music Deserves Respect”

    0

    MDR

Sony Philippines kicked off their music advocacy campaign “Music Deserves Respect” last night at Hyve, Fort Bonifacio with a mini-concert featuring the two endorsers of Sony’s new line of MDR headphones, Pinoy rock icons Bamboo Mañalac and Ely Buendia.

    MDR3

The Music Deserves Respect campaign maintains that the songs and albums created by musicians through their hard work and creativity must be given utmost respect by using personal audio systems—particularly headphones—that bring out the fullness of their songs, thereby giving justice to their music.

The advocacy is in keeping with the launch of the newest line-up of Sony MDR headphones, which is comprised of its flagship models—the MDR-1R, MDR-1RNC and MDR-1RBT—and new extra-bass models—the MDR-XB920 and MDR-XB610.

Said Sony Philippines Marketing Officer for Personal Audio CJ Deacosta, “Music is a collaboration between an artist and his team and through [Sony’s] headphones, the sound of their hard work and commitment will clearly be heard.”

    MDR2

Bamboo explains, “It’s important to understand how a musician’s hard work goes into the creative process. We work with a team, we collaborate to make the right lyrics, but most importantly we make music the way we want it to be heard. Giving justice to music is giving justice to the artists’ hard work in the studio, too.

“For this, you need the right headphones for the power, the drive, the warm sound, the tone, the extra bass and clarity because when you hear a song the way it’s supposed to sound, it’s great stuff,” Bamboo added.

    MDR5

“[Sony’s] headphones are well-designed and easy on the eyes, as well as the ears, of course,” commented Ely Buendia. “Sony puts a very high premium on quality and as an artist, I can appreciate that.”

Bamboo is the ambassador for the new extra-bass line-up, while Ely represents the flagship line-up.

Bamboo and Ely delivered rocking performances of some of their biggest hits during the campaign launch, which was attended by members of other contemporary Filipino bands like Sandwich, Sponge Cola and Callalily in support of Sony’s advocacy.

    MDR4

A number of Sony executives were also present at the launch, including Sony Philippines President and Managing Director Yasushi Asaoka. Former MTV Philippines VJ, TV host and model Sara Meier hosted the event.

Missed the WWDC? That’s okay. Here’s the skinny on iOS7

    0

    ios7

At the WWDC this year, the folks at Apple made a few announcements that people have been looking forward to. For those of you who missed the stream, here’s a quick look at the things Tim Cook discussed with the rest of the Apple-loving world.

First, and arguably the star of the whole show, is iOS7. The update to the current engine behind Apple’s touch-driven devices brings a beautiful new level of design.

    font

First, the cosmetic. Apart from gorgeous new typeface across the whole system, a more unified look to the icons and an updated color palette, iOS 7 will also bring eye-catching transparencies that not only give apps a sort of hierarchy as you view them, but also help the colors from your wallpaper blend more naturally with other OS elements, creating a single, cohesive feel to the who experience.

    trans

The OS will also work in tandem with the iDevice’s accelerometer to render realistic-looking parallax that makes the home screen appear as if it were in 3D. The icons (as well as some other things we will talk about later) seem a little familiar-looking, but it is all for the best I believe. The whole experience looks really great, and does a lot to change the feel of the operating system, which was clearly starting to show its age. This gets Apple on closer footing with other OSs, such as Android, that allow users to have a little more eye-candy than a simple, stock OS has to offer.

    Cam

Functionally, the new OS also has a few new tricks. The Photo App has been updated to be more user-friendly, allowing you to simply across the screen to switch modes. The app also uses location information to intelligently organize photos, which should prove a boon to those who find themselves spending inordinate amounts of time sorting through snapshots. It also allows for a shared photostream that lets others upload photos to your stream and come up with a more comprehensive view of the action.

iOS 7 also highlights their App Store, which happens to be the largest one in the world. It is also location-aware, and will offer suggestions on relevant apps depending on where you find yourself. iOS also has Air Drop, a sharing facility that allows you to share files with people near you. Once you find you have something to share, Air Drop lets you know if there are contacts nearby, and lets you send the data to them, “no bumping required.” Safari has also been redesigned to allow for full-screen browsing and  better bookmark management, among other things. Siri has also gotten a boost. Apart from male and female voices, and a less robotic tone, you now have access to system settings through him/her as well.

    controls

You can now also swipe up from any screen to bring up a convenient little system menu to switch commonly-used functions on and off, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and the like.

The system will also offer better multitasking abilities, with the the device looking at usage patterns to determine which apps are prioritized while running in the background, so services such as push notifications aren’t going to be interrupted. There is also a change to the multitasking menu, which looks to be a little more convenient than the tiny, old icons of previous versions.

The people at Apple are making a pretty big deal about iOS7, calling it the biggest revolution in user interfaces since the original iPhone came out in 2007. To be honest, some of the system features look eerily familiar, but are very welcome additions to the operating system as a whole. The additional features Apple has included are clearly ground-breaking–for Apple. Android users have had access to many of these features for several iterations of their OS already. I don’t think it is a bad thing that Apple has jumped on and adapted some of these features and controls for their mobile OS. If anything, it’s great that they are letting iOS users experience the convenience of such features, because really, that’s what owning a device is all about: convenience. Apple and Android fanboys can keep bashing each other all the way to next Sunday, but the bottom line is that many people will have an easier time handling the devices now, and that’s a really good thing all around.

That being said, the nice thing about Apple’s execution that sets it apart from ‘Droid, is that it is done a little more elegantly, it looks jus a little more refined and polished, and this is what Apple has always been about.

Release is scheduled to be in the Fall of this year, so hang on to your iOS devices and keep your eyes peeled for the update notice on your device.

Sony reveals PS4 hardware, announces price and upcoming titles

    0

ps4Finally, Sony revealed what the actual PlayStation 4 looks like earlier today during their E3 keynote—something we expected to see during their big press conference in February, but didn’t.

The PS4 is essentially a vertical console with a wide bottom that enables it to stand. It’s all-black, save for the blue line that runs across its upper third. The upper part of the body appears to have a glossy surface, while the bottom looks like it sports a different, more matte-type texture.

    ps4dsc0590

Engadget managed to catch a glimpse of the actual device post-keynote and took a photo of it.

    lb11423

The PS4 will officially hit the US market later this year during the holiday season and will retail at USD 399, making it significantly more affordable than their direct competitor, Microsoft’s Xbox One.

Sony Computer Entertainment head Jack Tretton declared that over 140 titles are currently in development for the PS4, and roughly 100 of which will be available within the PS4’s first year in the market. Such titles include Final Fantasy XV, Assassin’s Creed IV, The Dark Sorcerer, inFamous Second Son, and The Elder Scrolls Online. Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, and Drive Club will launch alongside the PS4 this holiday season.

    lb11330

Sony took another jab at the Xbox One when Tretton announced—much to the joy of those who attended the conference—that the PS4 will not impose any restrictions on used games. This means that users can buy from and sell games to other people or borrow from and lend games to friends, and the games will work just fine on the PS4.

Tretton also emphasized that PS4 disc-based games do not require an active internet connection to play or for any type of authentication to take place. “PS4 won’t require you to check-in online periodically. And it won’t stop working if you haven’t authenticated within 24 hours,” he explained.

Sony also announced that the PlayStation brand will be working with other sectors of the company to provide multimedia support for PS4. Sony Pictures is working on original programming for the PS4. “Sony Pictures will do everything in our power to drive the success of PS4 by delivering new cutting-edge programming that is developed with gamers in mind and by offering access to unique content,” said Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton. Additionally, Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, Sony’s music and video streaming services, respectively, will be available on the PS4.

PS Plus memberships will carry over to the new console as well, giving members access to all benefits across PS3, PS Vita, and PS4.

Father’s Day is almost here. Spoil dad with the help of LG

    0

    image

You love your dad. He was there for you when you woke up crying in the middle of the night, looking for your milk, when you failed your first exam, all those evenings you never got home on time, and even that day you scratched the car. Sure, he knows that you love him, but why not drive the point home, and give him what he really wants.

LG has a whole line-up of home entertainment products just itching to find a way into dad’s house. Spruce up that bare wall with the 84LM96000, LG’s Ultra HD TV, and watch as sheer joy fills your father’s eyes. It has over 8 Million pixels over its immense 84 inches of screen real-estate; that’s over four times the resolution of Full HD. Give him something to watch on his massive new Ultra-HD TV by setting him up with the BH9530TW, LG’s 9.1 channel 3D, Blu-Ray home theatre system, with its four vertical speakers that can fill any room with crisp, precise audio.

If you aren’t the kind to show off, dad will most certainly appreciate either the 55- or 60-inch Cinema 3D Smart TV that not only gives you great, sharp crystal clear images, but lets you connect to the Internet for additional content, connectivity and even the ability to video conference with all his beloved sibling abroad. Combine this with the BH6330H to guarantee clear and powerful surround sound to dad, your family, and maybe even his buddies, if mom lets them over on the weekends.

Sure, dad would love a card, but nothing says “Happy Father’s Day” like a home entertainment setup from LG.
