Restaurant Review: House of Wagyu Stone Grill

    0

Celebrating one’s milestone is essential to all of us. We await important events in our lives such as graduation, birthday, wedding, baptismal, debut and so on. And of course, celebration = food. Admit it or not, the breaking point of a successful event is good food. Here’s a great news, we came up with a list of restaurants so you won’t do the work.

    House of Wagyu Stone Grill

    Event: The Anniversary

House of Wagyu Stone Grill is owned by the same person who owns Melo’s steakhouse. Both restaurants specializes in Wagyu beef. From the name itself, it is served on a scorching hot Japanese volcanic stone, where you can personally adjust the kind of cooking you want for your beef, since it is given to you raw. For the volcanic stone to retain its heat for approximately 30 minutes, it is placed in an oven for about 4-6 hours.

Customers are assured that they are getting the best quality of meats, since these ingredients are imported from Australia and Japan.

Experience: We went to House of Wagyu Stone Grill branch at Two E-com Building, Pasay City. The view was extraordinary because it faces Manila Bay, which is very romantic at night because of all the city lights. Aside from that, you are guaranteed of privacy and intimacy since it is located inside a corporate building and not in a mall. I can assure you that this place feels like a secret retreat for you and your special someone. They also have a club rare card where you can use for your future visits.

    wagyu2

The staffs are well trained because they immediately tend to the needs of their customers.

For the appetizer, we were served with Zucchini soup. The soup is delicious because it is not overwhelming. It is served warm accompanied by bread.

    wagyu4

For the main course, (the most awaited part) we were served with Ribeye (Grade 6) and Top Sirloin (Grade 8) with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. The beef are served raw so you would do the cooking on the stone. I enjoyed the experience and I felt like a kid because it was new for me.

    wagyu1

Although, you should focus on your cooking since if you cooked long, the meat will be dried up and you will lose all the tasty juices. The Ribeye and Top Sirloin are both heavenly! They are tender and easy to slice. They are indeed treats to the mouth since you can taste all the juices and distinct flavors even though these are just seasoned with salt and pepper.

    wagyu6

    wagyu5

For the dessert, we were served with Chocolate cake Ala Mode and Cheesecake. The chocolate cake is decadent. It taste both sweet and salty, perfect in moderation. The cheesecake melts in your mouth and tastes superb.

Writer’s tip: Splurge on these steaks. Don’t even think about it.

    Price: Php 270 – Php 12,000

Location: Greenhills, Eastwood, Two E-com Building, Pasay City, The Podium

Multi-window apps, Daydream VR mode and more in Android 7.0 Nougat update

Android began rolling out updates for the Nougat August 22, its seventh major release. According to the official Android blog, the update is optimized for increased productivity and easier access to phone functions.

Among its features is the multi-window function that allows users to run two apps side-by-side with resizable dividers. The quick switch function enables switching between two recent apps by double tapping the Overview button. Nougat also allows users to reply directly to notifications without having to open any application.

The drop down menu was improved as well, with more controls and an option for users to move each setting within the menu. The OS now has multiple locale support which provides users the option to present information in multiple languages as in search results.

Android included support for the 3D rendering API VulkanTM, allowing improved graphics for newer games, as well as for Google’s Daydream VR platform with devices and peripherals coming later in the year.

Android also added 72 new emojis to the over 1,500 already-existing ones.

Sony announces PlayStation Now service coming to the PC

    0

It is the news PC gamers have been waiting for to achieve true “master race” status: Sony announces that the video game streaming service PlayStation Now is coming to desktops and laptops.

Senior Vice President for Marketing and Head of PlayStation Network Eric Lempel wrote on Playstation.Blog that they are launching the PS Now service for Windows PCs, allowing users to be able to play over 400 games from the PlayStation catalog including exclusives like The Last of Us, Uncharted, and God of War.

In conjunction with the release, Sony will also be offering a DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adapter to be able to connect DualShock controllers to computers to be used for either the PS Now or Remote Play. The device is compatible for both Windows and Mac operating systems and sells for $24.99.

The video game service is based on the Gaikai streaming technology allowing subscribers to play on browsers connected to remote PCs, allowing them to play games with higher graphics qualities without the need for high computer specifications just as long as a fast enough internet connection is present. This is especially good news for those who are unable to get the newest, most in-demand console like the PS5, though many may still choose to use something like PSemuX PS5 Emulator to play the games they wish to.

PlayStation Now for the PC will launch in Europe first and then in North America.

    System Requirements:

    • Windows 7, 8.1, 10
    • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 or 3.8 GHz AMD A10 or faster
    • 300 MB or more; 2 GB or more of RAM
    • Sound card; USB port
    • At least a 5 MBPS internet connection

PSBank warns public about the dangers of e-mail scams

    0

More than 205 billion e-mails are sent and received each day, but only less than 10% of the public are able to identify regular e-mails from phishing e-mails. This poses a problem since phishing is one of the most popular scams used by Internet fraudsters to obtain sensitive personal and financial information. Commonly associated with phishing is pharming, another scam that redirects web visits intended for legitimate websites of institutions like banks to fake websites they created to deceive their victims in disclosing confidential personal and financial data for their own gain.

Without knowledge about these scams and preventive measures against them, anyone can easily be robbed off their hard-earned money.

To address this, Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) has made financial consumer protection as one of its top priorities to ensure its clients that all their financial transactions are safe and secured.

In line with this, PSBank Vice President for Information Security Division Dan D. Duplito reminds the public of the importance of being aware about these scams and the risks that come with them. “The need to be aware of scams such as phishing and pharming is emphasized further as communicating and disclosing sensitive information through e-mail becomes more pervasive. That is why in PSBank we are advocating to fight these scams through an information campaign dubbed as ‘Be Aware’ that provides our clients with tips on how to protect themselves against various scams,” Mr. Duplito said.

“One of the top priorities of PSBank is to assure our clients that all their financial transactions are safe. We also strongly advocate financial consumer protection by reminding everyone, so they too can protect themselves from becoming victims of scams,” said Mr. Duplito.

While phishing and pharming share the same objectives, they are different in methods of acquiring information. Phishing e-mails often come from unrecognized or unknown senders. The content of the e-mails ask the user to confirm personal or financial information by replying, clicking on a link, or downloading an attachment. The links found in these phishing e-mails can also lead to possible pharming incidents. Fraudsters using pharming purposely redirect victims to fake websites that they have created or legitimate websites that they have hacked.

“Phishing and pharming scams are usually done through e-mails. E-mails from banking institutions, such as PSBank, will never ask for your passwords, PIN, card details, and other sensitive personal information through an e-mail,” Mr. Duplito said.

“Always be extra cautious and practice discernment when it comes to checking e-mails. We highly recommend that you avoid connecting to public Wi-Fi when conducting bank transactions through online or mobile platforms and to double check if the web address you are viewing is correct and secured,” he added.

Mr. Duplito also emphasized the importance of regularly monitoring one’s account, which can be conveniently done through the Internet and mobile banking facility of banks such as the PSBank Online and PSBank Mobile app. He also noted that PSBank accountholders should take advantage of the PSBank ATM Lock feature that can be accessed through PSBank Online or Mobile to prevent any unauthorized transactions in their account.

For any unauthorized transactions, PSBank clients can immediately call the 24/7 PSBank Customer Experience Hotline at 02-845-8888 or visit any nearest PSBank branch.

Ford survey reveals Filipino drivers are missing crucial long-term saving strategies

    0

When it comes to buying a new car, more than 80 percent of Filipino consumers say that fuel efficiency is more important than power.

That is just one conclusion of a survey of more than 9,500 drivers in 11 markets across the Asia Pacific region conducted on behalf of Ford Motor Company in June 2016.

When asked the reasons for prioritizing fuel efficiency, 87 percent of respondents from the Philippines cited the need to save money. Other top reasons included concern about high fuel prices (64 percent) and an interest in being more environmentally friendly (61 percent).

In fact, fuel efficiency is such a major factor that more than one-third (36 percent) of drivers who currently own a powerful car say that they regret not purchasing a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

“We conducted this survey to learn more about what consumers’ attitudes are towards fuel efficiency when they are shopping for a new car,” said Kevin Tallio, chief engineer, Engine Engineering, Ford Asia Pacific. “Fuel efficiency remains one of the top concerns. Drivers continue to be sensitive to fuel costs, no matter what the price is at the pump.”

The survey revealed that the need to save money was also reflected in fuel-purchasing habits.

Many Filipinos said they already apply tactics to save at the pump such as waiting for lower fuel prices to top up (52 percent). Forty five percent say that they only go to fuel stations where they get points for filling up, and 20 percent say that they use fuel comparison apps to find the cheapest rate in town. Only 39 percent say that they fill up whenever, regardless of price.

Drivers are starting to change their driving behaviors too. More than 39 percent of consumers are planning on taking more public transport over the next 12 months, and 37 percent say they will change their driving habits to use less fuel.

These thrifty behaviors extend to what Filipinos would do if they could save even more on fuel. Four in five respondents said that if they saved 20 percent on fuel every month, they would put the extra money towards their savings. Another 61 percent say that they would put the money towards their family.

This all coincides with a general wariness about the Philippines’ fuel prices. More than half (58 percent) of respondents say they don’t trust fuel prices to stay stable over the next year.

But while Filipinos are eager to protect themselves from the sting of the pump, surprisingly many are unaware of longer-term strategies for saving money:

    • More than half (55 percent) of those surveyed admit that they do not consider the total cost of ownership – fuel and vehicle maintenance – when shopping for a new car
    • Only 40 percent say that they would invest more money at the time of purchase on a more efficient engine in order to save money on future fuel costs

However, there may be signs that behaviors are changing. Many consumers who are planning to buy a new car in the next year are considering more fuel-efficient vehicles:

    • Sixty six percent plan to buy a vehicle with a more fuel efficient engine
    • Nineteen percent plan to buy a hybrid or electric vehicle
    • Eighteen percent plan to downsize to a smaller vehicle

Their choice is also made difficult by the fact that Filipinos also value performance. More than three quarters (78 percent) of all respondents say they consider performance as a factor when buying a new car. Suburban residents disproportionately said that they were motivated by performance (79 percent vs. 63 percent of rural residents).

“Filipinos are very practical consumers, and getting much more sophisticated in their purchase behaviors,” said Lance Mosley, managing director, Ford Philippines. “They expect their vehicles to be fuel efficient enough to deal with the country’s traffic congestion, but also powerful enough to fit their respective lifestyles.”

It was exactly this need to offer the combination of fuel economy and power that drove Ford to develop the EcoBoost family of engines.

Since 2009, EcoBoost engines have been showered with awards, in fact the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine was voted best in class at the 2016 International Engine of the Year Awards for the fifth year in a row. EcoBoost technology can now be found under the hoods of more than 20 Ford nameplates around the world – from the feisty Fiesta to the iconic Mustang.

“EcoBoost gives drivers mileage when they need it and power when they want it,” said Tallio. “When driven efficiently, EcoBoost technology has the capability to help save on fuel, save you money in the long run and reduce CO2 emissions. And when that extra ‘oomph’ is needed, it provides effortless performance.”

Nvidia reveals Parker system-on-chip for self-driving vehicles

    0

Nvidia revealed the Parker mobile processor for autonomous vehicles at the Hot Chips conference in Cupertino, California last August 22.

The Nvidia Tegra supercomputer processor is built around the Pascal GPU and next-gen Denver CPU architectures which brings high performance and efficiency translating to “deep learning-based systems” for self-driving vehicles, according to the Nvidia blog.

Parker-based vehicles will be able to update themselves with new information through the cloud to improve accuracy and safety.

Parker was announced earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show when they introduced the Drive PX 2 Platform.

The Drive PX 2 powered by the Parker processor delivers 24 trillion deep learning operations per second. This speed allows autonomous vehicles to traverse any environment while ensuring safety to the passengers.

Several car manufacturers are currently using the platform to develop autonomous vehicles, including Volvo which plans to road test self-driving XC90 SUVs next year as part of the company’s Vision 2020 initiative to create safer vehicles for the public.
