Carmudi PH makes your online car selling and buying process easy

    0

    car (1)

What’s your online car exchange experience? Was it smooth and straightforward, or was it plagued with ambiguity and hesitation? No matter what their age, cars are big-ticket items that cost anywhere from five to eight figures. The last thing you want is to deal with someone who can’t make up their mind, whether that person is buying your car, or selling one to you.

Dedicated car-exchange websites are a great idea—at least in theory. They offer buyers a convenient opportunity to check out a vehicle from the comfort of their homes, without wasting time or fuel to hop from one car dealer to another. Sellers, on the other hand, can upload their photos and details of their car immediately to a potentially international audience.

In practice, however, not all online car exchange sites live up to their premise: Half of the time, important details such as mileage or service history are deliberately omitted. Other times, photos are blurred, dark or poorly framed. While not everyone is expected to be an automobile photographer, a little effort can go a long way in showing your vehicle in the best light. Sometimes—though not frequently—the car’s price won’t even be precise, with a note that reads “Send message for pricing” or “Last price inquiry only upon seeing vehicle”.

Fair enough; the rapport between the buyer and seller is dynamic once they meet, potentially affecting the final pricing, though it would be nice—and secure—to know exactly how much money one must bring along to consummate the transaction and not any less because, as stated earlier, cars are big-ticket items, unlike mobile phones or tablets.

With new vehicle sales at an all-time high; and the secondary market booming commensurately, online car exchanges are the wisest first step to acquiring or unloading a car. But are all online car exchange sites as effective as the other?

Your time—as well as your buyer and seller’s time—is valuable. Trimming out all the clutter and leaving only the relevant data makes the exchange process quick and hassle-free. Clear photos, concise yet complete car details; comprehensive contact information and an assurance of legitimacy all inspire consumer confidence critical for that first step.

With its global expertise in the field of online car trading, Carmudi and its local online counterpart, Carmudi.com.ph, have constructed their site to be as informative as possible without being vague or redundant. Everything you need to know to buy or sell your vehicle is on the site, awaiting only a personal inspection—or perhaps even a test drive—to seal the deal. With Carmudi, less confusion yields more productivity in the shortest time.

Transform your online car exchange with Carmudi, where finding the car of your dreams doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Visit www.carmudi.com.ph for more info.

Survey Shows People Hide their Computers to Keep Personal Data Online Safe

    0

A recent study conducted by Kaspersky Lab shows that online users are turning to a variety of methods to keep their personal data safe from the prying eyes of the online world. These methods include the usual security steps and some extreme procedures like hiding their computers.

Kaspersky Lab also shared that despite the steps taken to protect data online, users are still not completely aware of the risks, and those that are, use the wrong methods to stay safe online.

The research further showed that one-in-five (20%) admit that they cover up their webcam, in an attempt to protect their privacy. Useful in itself, it’s important to recognize that covering a webcam cannot prevent audio interception and protect users from being listened to by hackers or malicious groups.

Over a quarter of internet users (28%) store their sensitive data on devices that have no internet access, mistakenly thinking that this will guarantee the protection of their data. Although this theory is grounded in logic and is essential for securing backup data from the aftermaths of a ransomware attack, even without an internet connection, it is still possible for a device to be infected via a connected smartphone or USB stick.

Eighteen percent of those surveyed admitted that they try to avoid using popular websites like Google and Facebook because of the personal information these sites gather, despite the fact that it is normal practice for almost all websites to track users and collect some user data today.

Moreover, 8-percent of extra-careful respondents admitted to hiding their computers from other people, even though this will not help protect them from internet threats. Seven-percent also said they devote time to entering, then erasing credit card data when paying online, in an attempt to confuse viruses, despite the fact that malware, especially keyloggers, cannot be confused this way.

Whilst some use these extreme, but inadequate methods, the statistics show that other Internet users are severely lacking in cyber-savviness. Only 23-percent said they feel targeted online and 23-percent said that they do not think a security solution is necessary, raising questions about their online awareness and ability to protect themselves from harm.

Protect your precious data online, without having to resort to extreme, which are more or less inaccurate methods with Kaspersky Internet Security. This security solution from Kaspersky safeguards user information without interfering with their digital lives. The Webcam Protection feature for Mac and Windows can maintain user privacy, whilst specialist anti-tracking features – such as the Private Browsing function – can help users who want to avoid being tracked by websites – by cutting off user data from internet traffic.

Commercial trucks carry Isuzu Philippines’ momentum

    0

    exz

Strong demand for light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks have lifted Isuzu Philippines Corporation’s (IPC) performance in May, sustaining the company’s upward momentum that began at the onset of 2016.

Sales of Isuzu’s commercial trucks totaled to 2,183 from January to May this year, registering a 39.1-percent spike over the 1,569 units that were sold during the same period in 2015. The result is a further improvement on IPC’s overall performance year-to-date, which stands at a 35.1-percent growth on account of 10,819 deliveries made so far this year compared to the 8,010 for the same months last year, combined data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association bare.

The figures also show that sales of IPC’s light commercial vehicle line-up, which includes the Isuzu Crosswind AUV, D-MAX pickup and mu-X premium SUV, have risen 34.1 percent with 8,636 units moved from January to May this year, compared to only 6,441 units sold during the same period in 2015.

“While Isuzu Philippines recorded a dip in demand last month compared to the previous one, our year-on-year result remains solid, easily outpacing the already robust performance of the local automotive industry. The increase in deliveries of Isuzu’s commercial trucks, which compensated for the slower movement of the light commercial vehicles, is an indication both of IPC products’ relevance to the local market and of a dynamic national economy in which the transport of goods is a vital component,” IPC President Hajime Koso said.

On a monthly tally, IPC’s performance in May accelerated 20.1 percent with 2,021 units sold, topping the 1,614 units registered in the same month last year. Total deliveries of Isuzu light commercial vehicles reached 1,561, comprised of 365 units of the Crosswind, 299 units of the D-MAX and 897 units of the mu-X.

Also in May, Isuzu sold 284 units of the N-Series light-duty trucks, 128 F-Series medium-duty trucks, and 48 units of C-Series and E-Series heavy-duty trucks, for a monthly tally of 460 units.

The result in May, as well as for the first five months of 2016, places IPC firmly on third spot in the Philippines’ commercial vehicle market while at the same time recording the highest increase, at 35 percent, among the top three automotive companies in terms of sales growth this year compared to last year.

“IPC’s performance to date is an accurate reflection of a vigorous Philippine automotive market, with which we share the same enthusiasm for record-setting results when 2016’s first half rolls by at the end of June,” Koso said.

Team Suzuki Pilipinas sets records at Suzuki Asian Challenge

The third leg of the Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) proved to be a success for Team Suzuki Pilipinas as they notched a couple of firsts for the nation, proving once again that the country’s grassroots racers belong right up there with the world’s best.

Taking place at the Suzuka International Circuit in Japan, the local team’s own April King Mascardo managed to get the pole position after a strong qualifier performance—a first for a Filipino in an international racing event. Besides getting the pole position for the main race, Mascardo also set the fastest course record among Suzuka’s SAC riders at 2:52.455, beating out last year’s record holder by 5.3 seconds.

Following this is Eane Jaye Sobretodo’s top podium finish, another first for a Filipino in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) series. Meanwhile, Mario Borbon, Jr. placed second making it a Philippine-first gold and silver finish. Mascardo was leading during most of the race, with Indonesian riders Jefri Tosema and Muhammad Sapril hot on his trail. Unfortunately, all three crashed during the last lap, giving way to Sobretodo and Borbon to take it all home.

Race 2 was more gruelling as Mascardo bowed out early due to another crash. Sobretodo took over the lead but was cut through by a big pack, leaving him sitting in 9th place. Borbon followed at 10th.

Currently, all members of Team Suzuki Pilipinas are in the overall standing’s top 10, with Sobretodo on 4th, Mascardo on 5th, and Borbon on 7th. With each race showing better and more refined performances from the country’s very own riders, Suzuki Philippines is hopeful that they have what it takes to make a permanent mark on the world’s racing scene. Sobretodo, Mascardo, and Borbon will once again hit the tracks for the fourth time this season on August 5 to 7 at Sentul, Indonesia.

Nissan unveils Kicks, its all-new global compact crossover

    0

Nissan’s global leadership in the crossover segment will be further strengthened by the arrival of the all-new Nissan Kicks.

The production Nissan Kicks retains the basic design cues taken from the Kicks Concept – first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2014 – and is a stylish crossover built for busy city-dwellers to tackle everything the city can throw at it.

To meet initial Brazilian demand, Kicks will be produced at Nissan’s benchmark plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Ramp-up to full production will start within FY16 at the Nissan facility in Resende, Rio de Janeiro – the site of a $192 million (R$750 million) investment to prepare for Kicks.

Kicks features established design signatures, such as Nissan’s V-motion grille, boomerang head and taillights, and the floating roof with a “wrap-around visor” look to the windscreen and side glass.

During the engineering process, much attention was paid to the car’s overall aerodynamic performance – not only to benefit its dynamic performance, but also its overall refinement by reducing wind noise.

Inside, the story is one of quality and futuristic design in a cabin full of innovative features expected by a target audience who are technology hungry. The interior promises best in class passenger space in the rear – despite the coupé-like roofline – as well as one of the largest load areas in its class.

Front seat occupants face the latest version of Nissan’s modern and simple Gliding Wing dashboard design, which is dominated by a centrally mounted seven-inch full color display housing a comprehensive infotainment system with Smartphone connectivity.

Among the other technology on-board, Kicks will feature Around View Monitor and Moving Object Detection, which use four on-board cameras to present a view of the car and to warn the driver of any unseen hazards. This is a segment first in the region and, taken together, offers a step on the road to Nissan Intelligent Mobility.

A sporting flavor is provided by the flat-bottom steering wheel, while the crossover stance provides a high eye point to give the driver an empowering viewpoint of the road ahead.

“With Kicks, we have developed a compact crossover in the best Nissan tradition, and thanks to the unmatched experience, we have in creating vehicles to meet the needs of car-buyers around the world,” said Keno Kato, corporate vice president, Product Planning, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “Kicks will offer best-in-class design, convenience and technological innovation. And, it will demonstrate Nissan’s commitment to Nissan Intelligent Mobility. Kicks is a car to confidently take on the city.”

Nissan Kicks sales will begin first in Brazil in August, followed by Latin American left-hand drive markets later in fiscal year 2016. And ultimately, it will be introduced in more than 80 global markets.

Full details of Kicks prices, specifications and equipment will be released closer to its on-sale date.

Mynt to serve as one-stop shop for financial services using every Pinoy’s mobile phone

    20160602_161941 - revised

Mynt, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe Telecom, is leveraging on the immense popularity of cellular phones in offering a one-stop shop for financial services to boost financial inclusion among Filipinos.

At present, mobile penetration in the Philippines has already reached 113 percent as compared to banking penetration of only 31 percent.  In fact, three-out-of-four Filipinos aged 15 and above do not have bank accounts while 95 percent do not have credit cards.

Such ongoing shift to digital lifestyle, therefore, presents Mynt with a unique opportunity to address these gaps and equalize access to financial services using mobile and digital technology.

“Mobile is a key enabler to provide access to the unbanked and underserved segments because almost everyone has a mobile phone or knows someone who has one.  Imagine a world where consumers, merchants, and retailers benefit from mobile wallet capabilities, partnered with innovative loan constructs to further drive the cashless ecosystem.  That is what Mynt is all about.  We want to become a one-stop shop for financial services using every Pinoy’s mobile phone,” said John Rubio, President and CEO of Mynt

Rubio is one of the key speakers at the Digital Transformation Summit organized by the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology  (CEDFIT) in partnership with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  It was attended by players in the Information Technology-Business Process Management sector, academe, and local government units in Cebu.

Talking about digital disruption readiness, Rubio said Mynt is pioneering initiatives to provide financial services that were not available previously to most Filipinos.

“For instance, most Filipinos do not have credit history on which future financial transactions may be based.  This, in turn, leads to poor access to legitimate credit facilities and proliferation of informal lenders who charge a monthly interest payment of 20 percent or about 350-400 percent per annum.  We are changing this scenario,” he said.

Mynt currently utilizes mobile phones via its GCash mobile money service to provide a platform where customers can access consumer loans in a non-traditional manner, send and receive remittances more efficiently, buy online and offline, pay their bills, among others.  It is also set to enter into strategic partnerships and build new subsidiaries to complete its financial services portfolio.

“We add more value to Globe customers by complementing their digital lifestyle with other mobile services and we can see the potential of this large untapped market for financial services.  Eventually, we want to realize our vision of full financial inclusion starting from a secure wallet,” Rubio said.

As a company, Mynt also targets specific segments that are early adapters to financial technology, specifically students and employees.   Mynt provides them with affordable and convenient solutions that is built in within their mobile phones.  This is further strengthened by building cashless ecosystem solutions in schools and companies.

Mynt has so far, close to two million customers doing P1-billion transaction value weekly being serviced through more than 10,000 partner outlet network, and has more than 10,000 loan borrowers.

    What’s Hot:

    • Matte screen

    What’s Not:

    • Glossy finish fingerprint magnet
    • Low on storage and processing capacities

Dell, a brand name etched on many monitors and CPUs in corporations, hopes to make waves in the commercial space with its newest consumer laptops XPS 15 and Inspiron 11 3162. We got hold of Dell’s contender in the entry-level market,  Inspiron 11 3162, and here’s how it fared.

    Design: (3.5/5)

The Inspiron 11 3162 is housed in a plastic body that features smooth, rounded edges in the front and back. To give you a more graphic description, its smooth-edged form factor harks back to bright-colored and curved clamshell phones of not long ago, which are right up my alley. This design philosophy is a clear indication of this laptops’ target market: the young and proactive sector.

As someone who prefers minimalistic design over showy ones, I appreciate the simplicity of this laptop. Flipping it open, you’ll be greeted with a matte screen that offers some nice viewing angles, an island-style keyboard that’s soft to touch, and an aptly-sized touchpad with some texture on it. Located on the sides are basic ports such as power-in, HDMI, USB 3.0, micro-SD reader, combo audio jack, and a Kensington lock, all of which are necessary features to a productivity machine.

    Hardware: (3.5/5)

Apart from colorful design choices and an unassuming, yet stylish façade, this light notebook packs various hardware to keep your productivity going and provide you with entertainment any time of the day. This 11.6-inch laptop can be easily stowed in the bag and whipped out whenever needed. It runs Windows 10, showcases a 1366 x 768-resolution anti-glare LED-backlit panel, Intel Celeron processor, 2 GBs of RAM, and battery that is guaranteed to last you up to 10 hours of work and play on the fly. All these come together  for a laptop that can handle varying light to moderate PC tasks and a few other programs running in the background without a hitch.

Additionally, the laptop also has a built-in two tuned speakers, a 0.9-megapixel webcam with 720p HD video support, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

    User Experience: (4/5)

Using the laptop for a good amount of time didn’t really bring any surprise. As simple as it looks, this laptop is a modest device perfect for internet browsing and creating documents. Simple tasks such as typing articles and web surfing went smoothly. However, we wouldn’t recommend installing graphic-intensive games on it as its hardware may not be capable of handling such processing demand. Uncomplicated games available in the Windows store or flash games are playable–anything beyond that will just bring frustration.

We also found working with this laptop a pleasant experience. Typing was weirdly addicting, the keys are spread out adequately despite the size of the device, but can a bit small for people with huge fingers. It also has a texture that’s nice to touch. The touch pad, on the other hand, has a semi-abraded surface so your fingers don’t feel like just gliding on smooth plastic. The buttons on the pad is constructed with a short drop to them and is very responsive to clicks.

    Value: (4/5)

I had really no troubles using this laptop from Dell. For its PHP 13,990 suggested retail price, you’d get a capable laptop that carries just the right battery life, screen, keyboard, and processor at your disposal. It takes on tasks discreetly and wouldn’t give you the impression of it bursting into flames with even nonstop use.

    Bottomline:

The Dell Inspiron 11 3162 is a testimony that you don’t need to spend tons for a capable daily driver.

Canvas Learning Management System Grows APAC Presence

Software-as-a-service company Instructure, creator of the Canvas learning management system (LMS) announced that it doubled its Asia-Pacific manpower in order to better handle its growing presence in the region. The most recent investors in the Canvas LMS include the SCEGGS Darlinghurst in Sydney, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Singapore’s SIM University, and New Zealand’s University of Auckland.

“The success that Canvas has seen over the past 12 months in the APAC region indicates that there is a growing and real need for cutting edge technology that becomes an enabler, allowing the institutions we work with to deliver the best and most compelling learning experience possible,” said Troy Martin, director of APAC for Canvas.

He added, “We’ve seen how progressive Asia-Pacific can be when it comes to driving innovation in education and student-centered learning, and Canvas is uniquely placed to facilitate that transition towards a digital teaching model. Our APAC customers, including SCEGGS, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, SIM University, and University of Auckland have selected Canvas as their LMS platform partner of choice to tackle head-on the challenges and opportunities presented by the global education marketplace. We are delighted to be working with them moving forward.”

The above institutions combine for a student-staff population of over 54,000. With Canvas in tow, they will be able to enjoy a system that would integrate seamlessly with external tools and applications, while also being compatible with most operating systems and devices. Furthermore, Canvas’ solid feature set, ease of use, and manageability should allow for an enriched educational experience for both students and teachers.
