Bath & Body Works joins forces with Accenture to elevate customer experiences and deliver growth through next-generation technology and AI

Bath & Body Works, Inc., a leading retailer of personal care and home fragrance products, is collaborating with Accenture to modernize, transform, and simplify its core digital and technology platforms. This multi-year program is part of the retailer’s strategy to elevate the brand and leverage the latest technologies in digital, MarTech, AI, and generative AI (gen AI) to drive growth.

“Our collaboration with Accenture is about having a strong technology foundation and scaling the power of digital, data, and AI to deliver new levels of customer experiences, agility, and performance,” said Gina Boswell, CEO of Bath & Body Works. “This will help us accelerate profitable growth by enhancing our operations, elevating our brand, and engaging our customers differently through personalized and seamless experiences that keep them coming back.”

As part of its vision to drive growth, both companies will work to create new and innovative capabilities like a digital Fragrance Finder, a gen AI-powered conversational experience to help customers find the perfect fragrance tailored to their individual preferences. This comes as Accenture’s Consumer Pulse 2024 research found that more than half (51%) of consumers are already open to using conversational AI solutions.

“We are focused on leveraging our core strengths in fragrance and augmenting these with cutting-edge technology and AI experiences such as native mobile, headless commerce, MarTech, and transformer-based neural networks to deliver hyper-relevant and immersive experiences to customers with greater precision,” said Thilina Gunasinghe, chief digital and technology officer of Bath & Body Works.

“Our collaboration with on its continuous reinvention will help this beloved brand continue to raise the bar on the retail customer experience,” said Julie Sweet, chair and CEO of Accenture. “Together, we will build a strong digital core of cloud, data, and AI and innovative gen AI solutions that can help Bath & Body Works create value, foster growth, and continually delight their customers in new ways.”

A recently-released report on Generative AI for Customer Growth found that companies applying Gen AI to customer-related initiatives can expect to achieve 25% higher revenue after five years than companies that focus only on productivity.

Toki: A space for collectors, by collectors

As demand for community-based platforms increases, Toki has been able to establish itself as the first and leading social commerce platform for collectibles in the Philippines. A platform “for collectors, by collectors,” Toki was built to address the pain points of every collector, redefining the marketplace by offering safe and secure features to transact and interact with community members.

Since it launched in November 2023, Toki has onboarded 70,000 users, authenticated over 100,000 items (including more than 35,000 sneakers), and hosted more than 500 auctions.

“We are thrilled with the overwhelming response from the collector community,” said   Frederic Levy, Toki’s CEO and co-founder. “Our goal has always been to create a trusted and engaging platform where collectors can connect, transact, and share their passion. The rapid growth and positive feedback we’ve received reaffirm our commitment to continuously improve and expand our offerings to meet the evolving needs of our users.”

Toki’s core mission has been to ensure authenticity in collectors’ buying journeys. By implementing rigorous screening for sellers and a stringent verification process for every item sold, Toki guarantees the security of each transaction. This unwavering dedication aims to foster user confidence and uphold the digital marketplace’s credibility, allowing collectors to buy and sell with complete peace of mind.

    Toki

“As collectors, it’s crucial for us to have confidence in the sellers we engage with on the platform,” emphasized Zoe Ocampo, Toki’s co-founder and chief product officer. “As we onboard new sellers, we prioritize expanding into new categories where our trusted sellers can immediately begin listing their unique offerings. This approach not only enriches our community’s experience but also ensures we maintain the highest standards of quality and authenticity.”

In a recent gathering with media, Toki’s founders — Frederic Levy, Zoe Ocampo, and Jules Jurado — former GCash executives and avid collectors themselves, also revealed its plans to eventually complement its digital proposition with retail locations, providing a full O2O (online-to-offline) experience for users.

Building on its strong foundation, the move towards an O2O integration aims to allow collectors to engage with the platform holistically, bridging the gap between online convenience and the thrill of in-person discovery.

“Beyond revolutionizing the collectors’ journey, Toki is carving a path where each item tells a story, and every transaction fosters a deeper connection within our vibrant community,” concluded Levy. “Our journey from being digital-first to blending physical presence marks the next chapter in redefining how collectors can enjoy their passion, both online and offline.”

    Dyson OnTrac

Jake Dyson, chief engineer: “Dyson’s audio engineering mission is to preserve the integrity of the artist’s sound wave, free from interference. We also wanted to create a set of headphones that people would cherish, be excited by, and be proud of. With over 30 years of experience in aeroacoustics, we’ve mastered sound physics. By reducing noise through in-house anechoic chambers and expert engineers, we’ve applied and further expanded our audio knowledge to develop the Dyson OnTrac™ headphones. Our first over-ear audio-only headphones deliver best-in-class ANC, exceptional sound quality, and all-day comfort through unique materials, design, and customization.”

    Best-in-Class Noise Cancellation

To create an optimal listening environment, the Dyson OnTrac™ features a custom Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) algorithm that uses 8 microphones to sample external sound 384,000 times a second. This, combined with superior materials and carefully designed internal geometry, cancels up to 40dB of unwanted noise.

    Dyson OnTrac

    Enhanced Sound Range

With 40mm, 16-ohm neodymium speaker drivers and advanced audio signal processing, the Dyson OnTrac™ ensures that every note or word is delivered with precision. The headphones reproduce frequencies from as low as 6 Hertz to as high as 21,000 Hertz, providing deep sub-bass that you can feel, and clear highs at the upper end of the frequency range. Meanwhile, the speaker housing tilted 13˚ towards the ear for a more direct audio response.

    55-Hour Battery Life with ANC

With up to 55-hour battery life, Dyson OnTrac™ provides up to two weeks of listening even with ANC enabled. The two high-capacity lithium-ion battery cells are suspended in the headband for more even weight distribution. To switch between ANC on and off, simply double-tap on either ear cup.

Engineered for All-Day Comfort and Acoustics

Certified comfortable by US Ergonomics, Dyson OnTrac™ unites comfort and acoustics with precision. Select materials and ergonomic design ensure a superior acoustic seal and lasting comfort. High-grade foam cushions and multi-pivot gimbal arms relieve ear pressure, while battery positioning in the headband evenly distributes weight. Soft micro-suede ear cushions and optimized clamp force provide a consistent fit across diverse head sizes.

The Dyson OnTrac™ comes in four colorways, each precision-crafted with unique, durable finishes designed by Jake Dyson and the CMF team. Inspired by the CNC manufacturing process, options include CNC Aluminium, Copper, and Nickel. The Ceramic Cinnabar variant has a ceramic-feel painted finish. Every sTEP counts: The E-waste Project’s 12th year in environmental service

For over 12 years, The E-Waste Project (TEP) has been raising awareness for responsible e-waste management and disposal within the community through collection drives, webinars, and online campaigns.

With ever-advancing technology comes mounting piles of waste thrown out for each electronic upgrade we buy. Electronic waste (e-waste) has increasingly grown at an alarming rate, reaching thrice the world’s population growth as of 2014 and presumably even higher with each decade gone by.

E-waste refers to obsolete or discarded electronic devices containing toxic chemicals such as dioxins, lead, and mercury. When improperly disposed of, these substances pose harmful effects to human health, especially for pregnant women and children.

    The E-waste Project

This E-waste Project is an awareness program by UP Circuit designed to address the growing issue of e-waste in the country and educate people on how to tackle it. The initiative’s latest iteration in 2023 achieved its largest collection yet, amassing a total of 9,654 kilograms of electronic waste. The project will conduct its series of events this July 2024, hoping to expand its advocacy reach.

There will be two TEP Talks, which are online webinars aimed at educating and motivating individuals to identify and address the issues associated with improper e-waste disposal. The first TEP Talk will be held on July 20 with the topic “E-Waste and Health: Understanding the Risks.” On the other hand, the second webinar will take place on July 27, with the topic on “Reducing E-Waste: Tips for Minimizing Electronic Waste at Home.” Both TEP Talks will start at 2PM via Zoom and will also be live-streamed on TEP’s Facebook Page. Interested attendees can join through the registration link posted on The E-Waste Project’s social media pages.

A great addition to the TEP projects, called TEP2F, was also introduced in June. Selected members of the team visited the Property Company of Friends, Inc. in Mandaluyong and the Tzu Chi Scholars Summer Camp in Sta. Mesa will talk about the environmental impact of e-waste and its practical disposal solutions.

    The E-waste Project

The E-waste Project will also relaunch its in-person collection drive from July 21 to 27, 2024, at the Engineering Lawn, UP Diliman. Drop-off points will be available starting July 8 and will remain open until the last day of the collection drive, July 27. The drop-off points are spread across the University of the Philippines-Diliman Campus and at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The E-waste Project advocates for innovation that serves as a tool that we can leverage to enhance sustainability and protection rather than be the cause of more environmental problems. In its 12th year, The E-waste Project continues to widen its reach through new events and greater influence with the help of all volunteers and participants.

There is a responsibility that comes with today’s advancements, and every sTEP taken towards addressing this current problem is progress to a better and greener future. Para sa bayan, para sa mundo.

Aboitiz Data Innovation launches AVA AI, leading the charge in enterprise-grade GenAI innovation

Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI), the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) arm of the Aboitiz Group, recently announced the launch of AVA AI, its Generative AI (GenAI) Platform designed to empower enterprises across the public and private sectors. Built to enhance productivity, AVA AI seamlessly integrates into existing systems and handles complex workflows, allowing teams to gain access to constructive insights from their organizations’ collective data securely and efficiently.

Many enterprises today face challenges with data dispersed across multiple sources and systems, leading to missed crucial insights and hampered strategic decision-making. Moreover, relying on GenAI platforms that depend exclusively on publicly available information is prone to generating irrelevant or inaccurate answers and increasing security risks for enterprises. These inefficiencies can stifle team productivity and overall operational effectiveness. AVA AI addresses these issues by consolidating data, providing actionable insights, and boosting efficiency and decision-making within organizations.

“In line with our mission to make AI work for our clients and their stakeholders, we designed AVA AI with the sole purpose in mind to simplify how enterprises interact with their data,” shared Dr. David R. Hardoon, ADI chief executive officer. “By streamlining processes and enhancing workflows, we enable them to not only make informed decisions swiftly and efficiently, but also to uncover valuable insights.”

At its core, AVA AI features an enterprise-ready chat interface that allows users to interact with backend applications using natural language on-premise or through cloud, breaking down data barriers. It can intelligently extract information from internal data sources, search the web if needed, and seamlessly integrate with existing systems and workflows securely. This enables teams to have smart, context-aware conversations to generate crucial insights from enterprise data without the risk of misinformation.

AVA AI ensures data security through robust encryption and granular access controls that comply with industry standards to mitigate external threats and regulatory risks. Data is also protected internally, with role-based access control managing access to sensitive data only to specific users. Additionally, audit trails record all platform interactions, enhancing transparency and compliance with relevant regulations, and the availability of usage analytics empowers decision-making and further optimizes workflows.

Enterprises can customize AVA AI agents — in-built programs that can perform specialized skill sets such as document parsing, accessing primary information sources, and integrating with enterprise APIs. This enables it to handle complex operational tasks such as research, document extraction, content generation, and analytics. It uses the enterprise’s private data and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to deliver evidence-backed answers, eliminating factually irrelevant or inaccurate input.

For example, a multilateral development bank utilizes AVA AI to phase in multiple workstreams, ensuring the needs of each department are met through customized agents. AVA AI offers personalized capabilities such as access to internal and internet documents for references, support from multiple large language models (i.e. OpenAI GPT-4, Anthropic Claude 3, Meta Llma 3), ensuring fair and trustworthy answers, synthesis of inputs from three models, the ability to open source document links, quick summaries, and the option to deploy sector agents for domain-specific queries.

ADI proudly boasts cross-functional teams comprising data engineers, data scientists, full-stack developers, and DevSecOps specialists. These teams ensure best practices are upheld throughout implementation. Their proven domain expertise accelerates the platform’s operationalization and customization according to enterprise needs and goals.

“While GenAI has shown much promise in consumer use cases, AVA AI distinguishes itself with the unparalleled ability for personalized applications across enterprises and functions,” said Nicolas Paris, ADI’s chief data & technology officer. “With its advanced features and possibilities, AVA AI is poised to unlock new realms of efficiency, innovation, and strategic insights for enterprises with diverse business needs.”

AVA AI is now available to enterprises across Southeast Asia. It integrates easily with popular productivity suites like Google Workspace, Microsoft’s SharePoint, and Office 365. It can also be easily accessed through web browsers and communications platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams.

Hailing from the Philippines’ Aboitiz tech glomerate and headquartered in Singapore, ADI offers data science and AI products and capabilities tailored for the financial services, industrials, and public sectors. AVA AI is the latest in ADI’s product lineup, which encompasses Alternative Scoring, Transaction Monitoring, Customer Intelligence, and AI for Climate/ESG. Additionally, its capabilities extend to GenAI and data management and architecture.

To support its mission to make AI work for businesses in diverse sectors across the region, ADI is actively forging strategic partnerships across the industry.  ADI had recently teamed up with Cloudera to empower Asia Pacific’s financial services and industrial sectors with GenAI capabilities. The DSAI startup is also an official Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner for Select Tier Services and the Public Sector, boosting its ability to deliver AI-powered solutions.

HALO HALO 2024: A journey to discover the arts

HALO HALO 2024 is a spectacular event that brought together a diverse community of artists, guest speakers, and people who didn’t know what multimedia art was. HALO HALO 2024 was held at the UGF Civic Hall, Festival Mall, Alabang, and this three-day event showcased various artistic expressions, offered insightful seminars and workshops, and created an unforgettable experience for everyone who attended.

    Halo Halo 2024

    Day 1: Unveiling The Ingredients

The first day of HALO HALO 2024 kicked off with an opening prayer, followed by Ma’am Sud who delivered a heartfelt welcome address.

The exhibit had more than 100 artworks posted near the entrance of the event from at least 100 artists. Aside from the traditional artworks, HALO HALO 2024 also had a wonderful solution for those who were not able to attend. They also have a website that had at least 300 artworks in it, so those who weren’t able to attend were in for a special treat.

After some time, the Malayan Dance Crew entered and wowed the audience with an energetic intermission performance, setting the stage for the introduction of the exhibit and one of their beneficiaries, including Young Focus, a non-governmental organization in Tondo, Manila, dedicated to providing education and development opportunities for children.

The first guest speaker for the day was James Arboleda from Snipple Animation, who led a fascinating seminar and workshop where he encouraged artists to work hard and draw as much as they can because there will always be someone who’ll be better than us. Meanwhile, Larah from Takopiie continued the momentum with her insightful presentation where she said that if you ever have artists’ block, you can just sleep it off first then try again later. The day also featured interactive intermissions, including a trivia mix and a giveaway event, making it both educational and fun.

    Day 2: A Harmonious Blend

Some of the highlights of Day 2 were the many giveaways and intermissions such as a trivia mix for the attendees. This game was advantageous for those who knew a lot of memes, because most of the trivia that had to be guessed were from movies or famous lines by actors and actresses.

The guest speakers for this day were Isaiah Cacnio and Lei Melendres, who captivated the audience with their seminar, followed by an interactive Q&A session. The day concluded with more trivia and giveaway events, ensuring everyone left with smiles and new knowledge.

    Day 3: Savoring the Experience

The final day of HALO HALO 2024 was the grand celebration, not just for art, but also for the staff themselves. The program began with the introduction of the exhibit and their second beneficiary, LoveYourself. The guest speakers for the day were Gerald Pesigan and Seline Abanto, who mentioned the technical aspects of drawing and designing, which was extremely helpful for new artists or those who don’t know where to start.

The event also featured an artwork showcase, where the incredible talent of over 100 participating artists was on full display. There was also a short film showing in the afternoon, and one of the notable titles was Ito ang Thrift. The closing program included a documentary about HALO HALO and the event highlights, providing a heartwarming end to the three-day celebration.

    A Heartfelt Thank You

HALO HALO 2024 was a great success and lived up to the expectations of everyone who attended, and it was all thanks to the tremendous support of our sponsors, media partners, and ambassadors. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this event possible. Your contributions helped create a platform for artistic expression and community engagement, as well as highlighted the strength and importance of diversity in the arts.

ACMobility launches latest EV charging hub, introduces EVRO app

ACMobility announces its latest milestone with the launch of a new EV charging hub in Ayala Malls Manila Bay. The new facility is part of the company’s initiative to expand EV infrastructure throughout the Philippines.

“As we inaugurate the Ayala Malls Manila Bay EV Charging Hub, we are empowering Filipinos to move forward into a sustainable future,” remarked Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, CEO of ACMobility. “This reflects ACMobility’s vision of creating an EV ecosystem that provides convenience and value to Filipinos and supports the nation’s sustainability goals,” he added.

ACMobility: Empowering Filipinos to move forward

Formerly known as AC Motors, ACMobility has transformed its business from automotive retail and distribution alone to an all-encompassing mobility platform that includes infrastructure and digital solutions. Through this, the brand is emerging as a leader in the Philippine electric vehicle (EV) sector, advocating for the widespread adoption of EVs.

The EV market in the Philippines currently faces challenges, primarily due to range anxiety, which impedes EV adoption. ACMobility aims to solve this problem through an end-to-end ecosystem that provides high-value electric vehicles, infrastructure, and services to make people more confident about transitioning to EVs.

The Ayala Malls Manila Bay EV Charging Hub

In line with its initiatives, ACMobility has opened a new charging hub near the Almario Road parking entrance of Ayala Malls Manila Bay. This new facility boasts user-friendly features and cutting-edge technology designed to accommodate the growing EV community. ACMobility’s EV Charging Hub consists of three 22kW AC chargers compatible with both Type 2 and GB/T charge ports, and one 120kW DC fast charger that is CCS2-compatible and can charge two vehicles at a time. Overall, the hub is capable of powering up to five vehicles charging at once and can support a wide array of EVs, from private vehicles to public buses.

Accelerating ease of EV adoption through digital solutions

To optimize the usability of their charging hubs, ACMobility has partnered with Evro to make charging simple and easy.

    EV charging hub

Evro is an e-mobility Service Provider built and incubated by 917Ventures, the tech innovation arm of Globe Group, another Ayala Company. The Evro app helps you find nearby charging stations, displays charger availability and compatibility, lets you plan and monitor your charging session remotely, and pays cashless.

“Evro comes at perfect timing as we aim to provide a total EV ecosystem for Filipinos to enjoy. The introduction of new charging hubs, such as what we launched today, and the development of innovative infrastructure solutions are proof of our strong commitment to providing a seamless, user-friendly charging experience for new and existing EV owners. We welcome interested partners who share the same vision of sustainable mobility to collaborate with us as we make the EV lifestyle a mainstream reality in the country,” said Carla Buencamino, head of Mobility Infrastructure at ACMobility.”

The Growth of the EV Ecosystem In the Philippines

ACMobility plans to foster growth in the EV ecosystem through an expansive strategy that includes the rollout of numerous EV charging hubs situated in high-quality locations across the country.  Currently, ACMobility’s nationwide charging network has a total of 70 charge points in 31 locations.

Strategic partnerships in both the public, private, and government sectors will play a pivotal role in supporting this vision, with regulatory endorsements and policy frameworks to bolster EV infrastructure development.

The Ayala Group strongly supports ACMobility’s goal, highlighting the collaborative efforts to promote sustainable mobility for Filipinos.

“As of July, we’re proud to say we have visibility of over 100 charging locations nationwide, which will be fully rolled out by the end of 2024. We appreciate the unwavering support of our partners in Ayala and others who share our passion for this as we continue redefining mobility standards in the Philippines,” Zobel added.

The Suzuki EngageXperience — full throttle for good

Always on full throttle to improve the lives of Filipinos, the Suzuki EngageXperience event was held in Bataan last July 9-10, 2024. Organized by Suzuki Motor Philippines, the event put the performance of the brand’s two-wheelers to the test in a unique ride that included exciting challenges with a focus on community engagement — all while experiencing the capabilities of Suzuki motorcycles as they explored the scenic landscapes of the Bataan Peninsula.

    The Suzuki EngageXperience Challenge

The Suzuki EngageXperience was more than just a ride. Divided into teams, participants tackled challenges that tested their motorcycling skills and teamwork to help hundreds of Aeta families from Bagac, Morong, and Mariveles. From the versatile V-STROM 250 SX and Raider J Crossover to the recently introduced Smash Fi to the automatic models Avenis and the very convenient and fuel-efficient Burgman Street EX, each rider had the perfect ride to tackle and enjoy the challenges.

Challenge 1: Group Fuel Efficiency: This challenge put the spotlight on the practicality of Suzuki
motorcycles. Throughout the journey, teams had to be mindful of their fuel consumption,
highlighting the efficiency of their bikes.

Challenge 2: Palengke Challenge: Here, the focus shifted to community support. Each group
received a budget to shop for relief goods to create the most relief packs possible, ensuring they contained essential items like noodles, canned goods, and hygiene kits.

Challenge 3: Load Up Your Burgman: This part of the Suzuki EngageXperience challenge showcased the versatility and cargo capacity of the Burgman Street EX. Teams competed to strategically load the most items onto the Burgman while maintaining safe riding practices.

After packing the goods, the convoy proceeded to Banawang Elementary School, where over 200 Aeta families were convened. The convoy grew even more impressive as hundreds of local Suzuki club riders from Bataan joined this heartfelt moment. These Indigenous communities were gathered with the aid of Banawang Barangay Captain Menandro Trinidad and Barangay Health Worker Babylen Brillo. In addition to the home essentials provided by Suzuki, the participants also pledged toys and school supplies to the kids, which further enhanced the spirit of bayanihan among the participants.

Following the heart-warming distribution, the group went full throttle again to Mt. Samat, enjoying the breathtaking views and the thrill of navigating the exciting roads on board their Suzuki motorcycles, which are perfectly suited for the steep highways and twisties of the journey.

The Suzuki EngageXperience concluded with a fun-filled fellowship night at La Jolla Beach Resort, solidifying the camaraderie within the Suzuki family and the media/vlogger community.

Suzuki: Life Companion, On and Beyond the Road

The recent Suzuki EngageXperience was not just an event — it was a powerful embodiment of
Suzuki’s role as a reliable partner. It brought together moto media and vloggers, as well as riders and the community, for a thrilling experience, sealing Suzuki’s connection with all its stakeholders. The event also hinted bigger things to come with the brand gearing up for its 50th anniversary in the Philippines. Since Suzuki’s 1975 joint venture with its local distributor, the brand looks forward to a milestone packed with exciting developments. This anniversary marks a new chapter for Suzuki, further solidifying their commitment to be a “life companion on and beyond the road.”
