After a few months of online art classes, Sunshine Place members showed us how their creativity flourished, and were ready to showcase their works in Coloring Lives, an online Art Exhibit from December 12 – 23, 2020. The exhibit, which highlights 146 works in Acrylic, Oil, Porcelain, and Diamond, also reinforces the fact that art heals, and can bring out the best in us especially during difficult times.

The Coloring Lives exhibit brings together the works of 26 artists from four of the Sunshine Place’s online art classes. These include the acrylic and oil painting classes of Arts Association of the Philippines president Fidel Sarmiento; the porcelain painting class of Mee Lee Casey, a Malaysian expat wife who has been teaching porcelain painting in UK, Hong Kong and Australia for more than 20 years; and diamond painting with Gobi Buencamino.

Art classes are said to be beneficial for the development of cognitive functions such as imagination, creativity, motor, and analyzing skills. More than that, art heals by lessening depression, anxiety and boredom, especially for the homebound.  And the exhibit has certainly colored the lives of members who participated in its online classes.

The Sunshine Place offers art classes to seniors, as well as adults, teens and kids. At the core of the workshops, are mentoring sessions in hands-on techniques, application of different brushes & basic strokes, and color rendering. Participants get to explore different styles in creating landscape, seascape, still life and portrait paintings.

A senior recreation center under the Felicidad Tan Sy Foundation, the Sunshine Place is a venue for adults to live actively, through engaging in recreational classes and age-appropriate physical training programs. It is the venue to be entertained, to socialize and to reflect; a place of happiness and wellness for one’s mind, body and soul.
