TechnologyKodak loses patent claim against RIM, Apple

Kodak can’t seem to catch a break, can it? The once industry leader in the imaging industry has just lost a crucial patent claim that would’ve helped the bankrupt company get on its feet again. The patent complaint filed against RIM and Apple pertains to Kodak’s patent number 218, pertains to how digital cameras preview images in a viewfinder. If their patent complaint was successful, it would have meant that nearly all smartphone manufacturers would have needed to licence the technology from Kodak. Unfortunately, the International Trade Commission concluded that neither Apple nor RIM had violated trade laws that could have led to an injunction halting imports of their products. Kodak is still looking to make money out of its current patent portfolio, but to be honest it’s not looking good for the company.
