PLDT Enterprise and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have reinforced their shared commitment to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the Philippines through a strategic partnership under USAID’s Strengthening Private Enterprises for the Digital Economy (SPEED) project.
Bringing SPEED to Local Businesses
The SPEED project expands the participation of Philippine SMEs in the country’s emerging e-commerce ecosystem by improving their capacity to adopt digital technologies; supporting the integration of SMEs and e-commerce platforms in logistical supply chains; increasing the use of e-payment systems and other fintech innovations; and strengthening consumer awareness and protection.
Through the SPEED project, USAID supports the U.S. government’s goal to help the Philippines develop a robust, secure, and resilient digital economy as a key to drive post-pandemic recovery and long-term economic growth for the country.
This partnership goes beyond providing digital tools and connectivity; it seeks to drive long-term, sustainable growth for MSMEs, ensuring that even the smallest businesses can thrive in the evolving digital economy.
PLDT Enterprise Reaching Out to MSMEs
As a key player in the nationwide digitalization effort, PLDT Enterprise continues to support MSMEs by providing them with access to technology and digital platforms. This partnership amplifies USAID and PLDT’s commitment to supporting MSMEs by bringing digital expertise to the sector and providing technology to help businesses adapt to the growing digital economy.
Joint initiatives like the MSME Day roadshows, held in Iloilo, Dipolog, and Pampanga, offer MSMEs the opportunity to explore the latest digital solutions, and the GoDigital Pilipinas, which promote cashless transactions for Filipino entrepreneurs, are just a few examples of how the partnership will digitally empower MSMEs, enabling them to thrive in the fast-evolving technology-driven economy.
In a statement, Amy Lovejoy, USAID Philippines’ Director of Economic Development and Governance, emphasized that digital platforms and technologies open an opportunity for MSMEs to experience growth and scalability to enhance their operational efficiency. “USAID’s support signals the U.S. government’s strong commitment to advancing the development of a stronger, more resilient digital economy in the Philippines.”
“Through our partnership with USAID and the SPEED project, we are reaffirming our commitment to help MSMEs succeed in the digital economy. We understand the unique challenges these businesses face, and we are here to provide the digital solutions and support they need to grow and succeed,” said Jay Lagdameo, vice president and head of Enterprise Revenue Group at PLDT Enterprise.
Collaboration Strengthening MSME Resilience Through Digital Solutions
The USAID SPEED project is designed to accelerate the digitalization of Filipino SMEs, enabling them to harness the power of e-commerce and compete in both local and global markets. This initiative perfectly aligns with PLDT Enterprise’s mission of fostering MSME growth by offering reliable and scalable digital solutions tailored to their needs.
“We recognize that MSMEs are the backbone of the Philippine economy, and by empowering them with the right digital tools, we can significantly enhance their growth potential,” added Lovejoy. “Our collaboration with PLDT Enterprise allows us to extend our reach and impact, ensuring that more Filipino businesses can access the resources and technology they need to succeed in a digital-first world.”
A Shared Vision to Drive Growth in the MSME Sector
This partnership builds on several MSME-focused initiatives that PLDT Enterprise, along with PLDT and Smart, has participated in this year. These include collaborations with the Department of Trade and Industry, Maya Philippines, and the PLDT-Smart Foundation. These efforts aim to empower Filipino entrepreneurs by equipping them with digital tools, knowledge, and solutions to further grow their businesses.
While the PLDT group has long been committed to supporting MSMEs, this collaboration of PLDT Enterprise and USAID further strengthens its mission to ensure that even the smallest businesses have the digital capabilities needed to compete and succeed in today’s marketplace. It underscores both organizations’ long-standing commitment to fostering resilience, sustainability, and growth for small businesses across the country.
By leveraging their collective expertise and resources, PLDT Enterprise and USAID are ensuring that Filipino MSMEs have access to reliable and transformative digital solutions, enabling them to remain competitive and resilient in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
