The Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI), the organization of motoring journalists behind the Philippine Car of the Year awards, recently launched their 2014-2015 Car of the Year-Philippines (COTY-P) and Truck of the Year-Philippines (TOTY-P) testing season.
Held at the Filinvest Tent in Alabang, the formal launch of the 2014-2015 COTY-P and TOTY-P was well attended by manufacturers and distributors that have participated in past searches, along with newcomers and newly merged car manufacturers. From constants such as Chevrolet, Ford, Foton, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Land Rover Group, Mazda, Peugeot, Suzuki, and Toyota, to newcomers such as BAIC, BYD, Nissan, and Volkswagen, the car companies present were in full force to support the organization.
Through a video message, CAGI president Ferman Lao welcomed all the guests to the 2014-2015 season. “The [different] car brands have launched many cutting edge vehicles that provide good value for money in their respective segments. Personally, I see many COTY-P potential winners,” said Lao.
The event also solidified CAGI’s partnership with Filinvest City Alabang and Caltex with Techron, as the official venue and fuel sponsors, respectively.
Last year’s testing season saw the Mazda 6 and the Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4×4 win the prestigious Philippine Car of the Year and the Philippine Truck of the Year.
The 2014-2015 testing season is open to all “all-new” or “significantly updated” vehicles launched to the local market from October 2013 to October 2014. For purposes of definition, “significantly updated” refers to vehicles that have had significant mechanical or electronic changes to the powertrain, drivetrain, suspension or activity systems that affect the way they drive or operate. Testing dates are scheduled to take place in October, followed by an awarding ceremony to be held before the end of the year.
The 2014-2015 Car of the Year Philippines is supported by Caltex with Techron, Filinvest City Alabang, the Manila International Auto Show, Worldbex Services International, SpeedLab, AAP, Brother’s Burger, Victoria Court, Team Spyder, MG Madrid & Company, Icubus Solutions and Winner Graphics.
