Chinese tech company Vivo introduced the new Y55 entry-level smartphone in Mandaluyong yesterday.

The phone is the first entry-level Vivo smartphone that carries an octa-core processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, which clocks at 1.4Ghz.

Memory-wise, the phone has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, expandable up to 128 GB through a microSD slot.

    The Y55 sports a 5.2-inch screen with a 1280×720 resolution. It also has an eight-megapixel main camera and a five-megapixel front-facing camera.

The main camera can scale up photos to 32 megapixels with its Ultra HD setting, giving photos sharper detail and improved overall quality.

Other hardware specifications include a 2,650mAh battery and dual SIM slots which support 4G network connections with speeds of up to 150Mbps.

Staying true to the Hi-Fi branding, Vivo has included support for high-resolution audio formats such as FLAC, WAV and AAC.

The phone runs a newer version of Vivo’s Funtouch OS, the 2.6 which is based on the Android Marshmallow OS. The Funtouch OS has improved functionality with features such as the Smart Split 2.0 which allows users to view and use two applications at the same time, and the Eye Protection Mode which filters out blue light to prevent eye strain.

The Y55 sells for a suggested retail price of PHP 7,990.
