Sony announced today that two new water-resistant smartphones will be available globally from the 3rd quarter of 2012—namely the Xperia go and Xperia acro S.

First up is the Xperia go, which is powered by a 1Ghz dual core processor with 512 MB of RAM and runs on Android 2.3 (but is upgradeable to Android 4.0). It‘s equipped with a 5-megapixel fast capture camera that’s able to go from sleep to snap in just over a second. The Xperia go supposedly passes the IP67 ratings, which means that it’s protected against water immersion between 15 cm and 1 m for 30 minutes—the most protection ever seen on a smartphone. The screen on the device is also one of its key features being a 3.5-inch Reality Display with the Mobile Bravia Engine that provides super sharp clarity.

The Xperia acro S on the other hand, is equipped with a slightly better 1.5Ghz dual core processor and runs on Android 4.0. It also has a fast capture camera, but it’s bumped up to 12-megapixels and is capable of full 1080p HD video recording. Its screen is also a bigger 4.3-inch 720p HD Reality Display that is also powered by the Mobile Bravia Engine. The Xperia acro S passes the IP57 ratings for dust and water resistance.
